My children (50 and 47) and I (72) dream of getting our hands on some Plexolan! We used all of ours up years ago. Please let us know when you get it back in production! And Thank You!

Bethany - I am hoping you will start producing Plexolan again. I started using it 40 years ago and I am now 80 years old and down to my last squeezes on my last tube! I tried to dublicate the ingredients (zinc oxide and lanolin) and it is close but not quite the same. Hope you have some good news for me!

I've been watching this discussion, but I'm not sure that Poslam and Plexolan are the same ointment. The main ingredients - zinc oxide and lanolin - are the same, but I'm not sure there was menthol in Plexolan, the one I'm looking for. Bethany: have you made any progress towards manufacturing Plexolan again? It's been a year since we "talked". Sure would like to hear about your progress.

Looking for the formula for Poslam ointment? If you read previous notes you will see I posted this in July of 2007.

Poslam used to be made by Emergency Laboratories, Jersey City, NJ 07302. I tried to find them in on-line phone directories but they don’t seem to exist any more. A pharmacist passed along this formula to my parents. A compounding pharmacy should be able to make it up. I don’t know if it is patented or not, nor can I vouch for the accuracy of the formula.

Base is tar distillate, zinc oxide 13.3%, sulfer 0.5%, salicylic acid 1.65%, menthol 0.6%, phenol 0.35%, lanolin 26%.

Genie, I have opened a second location and am now located in Bakersfield, Ca. at Vital Compounding Specialty Pharmacy. We have filed a patent pending on Poslam and are in the works to get it back to the market. I hope this helps. Thanks, Leah

The best way for both of us would be if you would post the information here. Flower Girl was interested, and a gentleman wrote about plexolan a while back, too. This way you would be getting the information out not just to me but to others who perhaps haven't been actively looking anymore, but would be interested. I showed my daughters your reply, and they are excited!.

Hello Susieboots!
I am the great granddaughter of the inventor and owner of Plexolan. I read your post, and first of all would like to thank you for looking for and inquiring about Plexolan. My whole family and I were all raised on Plexolan to cure any and all of our skin ailments. We are in the process of getting Plexolan back in production and on the market and hopefully to you in the very near future. Again, thank you for your post and please stay tuned!!

Hello Flowergirl!
I am the great-granddaughter of the inventor and owner of Plexolan. I read your post and it excites me that you used Plexolan as well as your mother and are looking for it. We are in the midst of getting Plexolan up and running again and get it back on the market! My entire family and I were raised on Plexolan as well and it absolutely took care of any skin ailment that we had. I am so happy that you were inquiring about it and again, hope to have it out and hopefully to you as well, in the very near future!

I am looking for PLEXOLAN ointment not Poslam. It's a mixture of lanolin and zinc oxide and Boy does it work for skin irritation! It was last sold by Alvin Last Inc. but they stopped in 1997, I believe. I think Smith & Nephew Roylan had a comperable product, but they too have stopped selling it. I have used it for years as have my children and we are running out of our stockpile. The diaper rash products on the market are NOT the same -- trust me we have tried them all! If anyone knows where we can get some, We'll love you forever!!!!

Anything with Coal Tar, Tar Distillate or even Selenium Sulfide will do the trick, just look at the ingredients on the packaging- Most of the Local Drugs Stores carry it- good luck

Let me save you some trouble. Poslam is not made anymore. If a doctor writes a prescription the pharmacy will order something named Poslam ointment. It comes in about a 6 oz jar and is tan colored. It is not the tar based drawing salve of old.

Therefore, you have 2 options: 1) find a compounding pharmacy and tell them you want tar based drawing salve like the old poslam formula or 2) make it yourself. There are all kinds of youtube videos with instructions on how you can make it at home.

Good luck

Vince, I have no idea what CVS is talking about. I can, and do, compound the formula. To my knowledge, CVS is not a compounding pharmacy…..so I can see why they can not compound. My formula is not named the same as the original product….however it is based off of the original formula and it is awesome. I hate it that this site will not allow my contact info. I am the only pharmacy between Arvin, CA. and Santa Clarita, Ca. :)
