You cannot just crush pills and use them intraveneously. It just doesn't work that way. I wish people would stop asking if they can shoot up some of these drugs. They obviously were not made to do this. Some of the IV meds have a different concentration than the oral pills. Please do not do something stupid and think that 1mg of oral valium is equivalent to 1mg of crushed and shot up valium, and then shoot the stuff up. You have to remember that the pills have lots of other ingredients that were not meant to be shot into our bodies. Please get help!

I second the get help motion, I do not feel like typing out and reposting all the stuff I have said before about shooting up or snorting pills, so I will just leave it to what nenene said, and say it is very, very dangerous.

Oh and nenene, I am not sure if you watch much TV or forensic shows, but I love them and there was just an autopsy show on recently, an episode of Ask Dr. Baden where they were trying to figure out why this seemingly healthy young mad, in his 20's died apparently in his sleep for now reason. So Dr. Baden did the autopsy, and he discovered it was due to snorting pills to abuse them. He had snorted them and the undigestible fillers/binders that are not meant to be broken down by the body had slowly been filling the little pockets in his longs that actually absorb the oxygen when you breathe, so he was suffering oxygen defieciency. Then one night, he snorted some narcotics, and just didn't wake up in the morning, the oxygen deficiency he had already caused himself, coupled with the respiratory depression the narcotics he had taken caused him to literally smother in his sleep, even though there was nothing else blocking his airways, like a pillow or anything. On the outside, the body looked normal, and if they hadn't taken him to professional forensic doc, the reason for his death would probably have never been pinpointed. So if people want to shoot up these drugs and cause themselves to have blocked arteries that can cause heartattacks or snort them, they will just be the next in a long tragic line to the autopsy table.

Yes, I watch that stuff all the time and it scares the crap out of me! I let my 14 year daughter watch it with me and we discuss it. She is probably old enough to watch it by herself but I just want her to understand what is happening and why. A neighbor around the corner died a couple days ago at the age of 40, from crushing up vicoden and Ativan and snorting it. To those people who post wanting to know what medications you can crush and snort does this do anything for you?

It probably doesn't do anything for them, they can be warned thousands of times and still will not listen, I am sure, in spite of ours posts, this person probably did it anyway, there was their whole intent in making the post.

It is very sad. I agree with you, it is good to let children learn young what can happen and what the consequences of this stuff can be. I don't hide it from my son either, he has watched some of the shows with me, he has seen me take my narcotics, so he knows the side effects, he has seen the bottle warnings and the reaction sheets that come with them. I don't hide anything, I think far too many parents do that, they just want to tell their kids NO, DONT DO THAT. But they don't want to discuss why they shouldn't do that, and of course the kids think it isn't anything serious, or they would have told me more. That is why so many young kids end up in trouble on prescription drugs, the just say no programs concentrate mostly on illegal drugs, and since a scrip is given by a doctor, they don't understand how dangerous they can be as well, and very few people bother to tell them.

We have always taken a rational stance with our son, since he was old enough to understand, we never just said no because we said so, we have always explained why the answer was no. It is amazing the difference it makes in children's behavior, as I am sure you have noticed with your daughter. If you tell her the reasons not to do sometime, and just don't say don't do it, then she is less likely to do it, the reality of the dangers make it much less tempting.

I haven't had to childproof anywhere we lived since Tom has been old enough to understand when we talked to him about something.

Same here. I will childproof because of the babies, but my 14 year old understands when I'm on heavy medication and how it effects me and how dangerous these drugs can be if taken by the wrong person or in the wrong dose. She is a pretty smart kid most of the time!

Yeah, most of the time, they all have their moments, LOL! But like I said, with Tom I have never had to worry, so if someone else with young kids comes over, we are in a mad scramble to try to find and pick up or put away everything that would be dangerous for them to mess with, and you know, it never fails, we always miss something or other.

But as soon as we could explain why he wasn't allowed to have or touch something, Tom was fine with that, he is a very rational child, the reasons made sense, and that was enough for him. I have another friend who child-proofed everything all the time, she never taught her kids what the word no meant, so anytime they would visit someone they would be into everything and it was just ridiculous. She said, well it's just easier to put the stuff up, and I said yes, but you can't expect everyone that you might visit to do that, if Grandma or Great Aunt Mable aren't used to young kids being around, and you suddenly show up, problems are coming.

By childproofing I just mean (since I have foster babies, I have to), putting medications up high where they can't reach them, putting those baby plugs in the outlets and putting scissors and knives away. If I have something that is very very expensive or very very sentimental then I would put it away. As far as everything else goes...that is why God gave us the word No. They learn what it means after a while and then when they get to be two or three you can explain why they cant touch it. When they are 11months and 9 months like mine they are too young to explain things too, but my 14 year old has respected this since she was about 2, with no problems. She never got into things at other people's houses because she was taught not to touch things that weren't hers unless she asked first. She has always been good about that, but now as a teen ager she is beginning to borrow my things without asking first. I have to keep reminding her that the rules haven't changed just because she's growing up!
