Oxycodone is the active ingredient in Oxycontin, it is a narcotic analgesic.
However, there are 3 different formulations of Oxycodone that are available.
Oxycontin is a time released formulation that is taken every 12 hours for severe, chronic pain and there is no generic for it available.
Roxicodone is a regular release formulation of Oxycodone and it is available as a generic and the name brand.
OxyIR is an instant release formulation, which is also available as a generic.
Oxycodone may cause side effects, such as: dizziness, nausea, constipation and drowsiness.
