Phentermine Anyone Have Strange Side Effects? (Page 4)

Updated

I just started taking this medicine for weight loss. I am having hot flashes and cold chills, terrible headache and a tingly head. I feel awful. Has anybody taken this and had the same reaction? If so did it pass after a few days? Gotta say this...I am not ever hungry! Like to hear from anyone that has taken this med. Thanks :)

This medication will make you feel like you do not want to eat AT ALL but please make sure you have a small breakfast, lunch and dinner! and I know you may not even feel like you need a drink but drink plenty of fluids! I got back on this med Monday after giving myself a couple weeks break and I am not getting the same side affects as I did when I first started taking it. Also I have split the pill in have so I take half in the morning and half at 2:00 ~ when I usually would start to feel sluggish and that has seemed to help. If you start to feel like this gets to you too much with the hot flashes, maybe taking it by splitting it up during the may help? Good luck!! and happy losing weight to you!! :)

I went to the dr yesterday and since April I have lost 26 pounds! I have gone from 270 to 244. My first month it was very hard to eat, wasn't hungry at all, and that was my month of biggest weight loss. Since then I eat but I'll have 1/2 a sandwich and some applesauce or at dinner I'll have a small portion of meat, a spoonful of potatoes or whatever starch we're having and a couple spoonfuls of veggies. Breakfast is still hard as I have never been a breakfast person but I'll try to have a bowl of cereal, toast with jam or a piece of fruit. I went off it for a week and was worried about gaining weight but I didn't, I still ate the small portions and felt full. The hot flashes have finally gone away and my sleeping has returned to normal. I take my pill first thing in the morning but if I miss it, I forget sometimes lol, if I remember before noon I'll take it but if its after noon I won't cuz I will be up 1/2 the night!

I just began taking Phentermine 37.5 Monday. I was really excited monday because I had to force myself to eat (I usually snack a ton during the day out of boredom especially during the summer because I'm a college student and only have to work when school is in session). But that night I started noticing a bunch of side effects. I had constant goosebumps and had cold sweats, I was really hyper, I felt nervous and had butterflies in my stomach, I kept feeling lightheaded and my scalp tingled when touched, and i had dry mouth. Then it got really weird, my teeth started hurting terribly! It hurt so badly I was afraid they were going to fall out or something! I took a sleeping pill that night, in hopes of easing my anxiety, it didn't work. I only slept for three hours! Those sleeping pills usually make me sleep for 12 hours and make me feel groggy all day! I took my pill before breakfast Tuesday and went to the zoo. All the symptoms came back mildly, except for my teeth! They hurt even worse than the day before! I spent most of my time at the zoo checking to see if my teeth were loose. I asked my mom about all my symptoms and she said the pain was a side effect of dry mouth. I skipped my pill this morning (Wednesday) in hopes of curing the side effects. No such luck, while they are much more infrequent today I still find myself getting goosebumps and sweating. My teeth still hurt but nowhere near as badly, and it's currently 4:30am and I'm typing this instead of sleeping, so the insomnia is still there. My mom says she thinks phentermine is basically LEGAL SPEED! So, I'm definitely calling my doctor ASAP! It just really sucks because I had struggled dieting in the past and i had already begun losing weight on Phentermine! I wish there was another pill that worked this well!

When I started taking the pill my dr advised me to take 1/2 a pill for the first week to 10 days, then to start taking a whole pill. She also said to take it for 4-5 days then go off it for 2-3 days. There's still days that I only take 1/2 a pill. I've been on them since April, I think, and the first couple months I had side effects but none like you're describing. I had awful sweating, and some trouble sleeping but that's about it. I could not imagine taking a whole pill from day one, I would've been crawling the walls, and I'm a caffeine junky!

I just started taking the 37.5 today. I had taken it previously Bout two months ago dr supervised. I started with half pill for a wk then up to full pill. The side effects at first were very dry mouth and headaches, but then turned into esophagus pain and extreme sensitivity to pain. I have fatty liver disease and the pain became unbearable and acid reflux became very apparent with the extreme esophagus pain and feeling of food stuck in my throat. I would sweat all day and night and racing heart beat, but i never hungry and drank about a 80-100oz water daily. I never had a point where i had alot of energy. But i did lose about 8lbs the first two wks. I am giving this another try hoping the side effects will mellow the second time around. Now that i know what to expect from it. I can already feel the fullness in my esophagus after taking the pill only 30min ago! I am going to stick with the half pill for a while to see how it goes. I weigh 258 i am trying to get to 240. I have desired to have the gastric surgery and with my thyroid condition and the liver issue which cause digestion problems i have not been able to lose any weight while not on the phentermine. So this is my last try at this with the phentermine! Going to stick it out hopefully. Thanks for sharing ur stories

I've been on phentermine for about a little over a month. My side effects are extreme dry mouth and at night I get heart palpitations (usually about 8-12 hours after I take the pill) which is weird to me b/c during the day I don't feel nervous or jittery nor does my heart rate increase. Does anyone else have issues with heart flutters at night?

Linda, are you eating the right kind of food on this pill. Also even though you may not feel like it you need to maintain a minimum of 1200 calories. You may be depriving your body of proper nutrition. I hope everything goes well for you.

I have to agree with you, the sweating is outrageous. This is my third month on Phentermine 37.5. My first month, I only had the dry mouth, now it seems the dry mouth is gone and excessive sweating has taken place. However, these are the only side effects I am experiencing. I take my pill M-F morn at 7:15 and on weekends, I take it at 10:15a. I am due to weigh in this Thurs with my doctor to see how things are going. So far I have lost about 20 lbs. which has me excited. I hope to continue on this journey with nothing but great endings!
Good luck to you all. Also if anyone is in the South Carolina area and would like a weight loss buddy let me know and I'll gladly exchange info with you.

My suggestion is to take one day then skip the next in a pattern..... Lost 40 Lbs on this over four years ago and trying to lose again since my son was born... I have problems taking deep breaths while Im on it and it makes my body sore. But it is simplp a side affect.... Maybe take some tylenol or Ibprophen when your teeth hurt. Ive never had that but I must say thats kind of scary!

Hello, I'm on day 4 of taking Phentermine 37.5. I was prescribed this medication to help reduce my appetite so that I could form better eating habits (learn to eat less). I was literally binging on food and ultimately ended up weighing the most I've ever weighed in my whole life and feeling pretty darn miserable about it. I'm in North West Illinois (close to the Mississippi), would be nice to have a weight loss buddy. More importantly I am here to ask if anyone has experienced feeling "wired" and not being able to sleep at night? Does this symptom get better?... and if so, how long before I can have a good night sleep again? I am an early morning person, I usually wake up before 6am, and that's when I've been taking the full pill, throughout the day I have felt a bit "wired"/"energized" but my pharmacist did tell me that it was a STIMULANT and as I'm not a caffein drinker, i would experience a bit of this, so I'm not too concerned, it's more the sleeping portion - it's really bothering my husband that I'm a bit of a zombie at night. Any help/concerns please respond - thank you! ~Mel

I'm a caffeine junky but when I started taking it my dr told me to take 1/2 a pill for I think it was the first week then to start taking a whole one. She also said to take it for 3-4 days then skip 2-3 days. I've been doing this since march or April and I've lost over 40 pounds so far. I know if I had started off on a whole pill I would have been wired! I still have trouble going to sleep but if I get it set in my mind I'm going to bed at a certain time I usually don't have trouble, and I don't take mine until around 9:30-10am.

Hi, the first time I ever took this pill I couldn't sleep. I would feel dizzy, throw up and was not hungry at all I lost 20pounds in a month(145lb-125lb). 4 years later I tried it again I still could not sleep felt a lot less sleepy and dizzy then first time. I wasn't throwing up I lost 25pounds in that month(140lb-115lb). Now 5years later after having my first baby I weighed 190lb I had gained 45pounds during my pregnancy. I lost 40pounds in 3months by eating healthy but then I hit a dead end. As much as I cut my porsion, excersiced, drinked a lot of water I gaind 12pounds so I started taking the pill again. I felt dizzy the week I was in my period. I sleep well and don't throw up. So far ived lost 16pounds. I guess your system is not use to it that's why your body reacts the way it dose.

I took this pill a couple of years ago before my daughter was born and lost 30 lbs in 4 months. For me, 4 months is the longest the pill would work. It starts to lose its effectiveness after that. If you are trying to drop weight quickly for an event like HS Reunion or Wedding then this is the perfect solution! You have to go to your doctor to get this pill, I would not recommend getting online as it is very expensive and there are no guarantees that what your getting is actually phentermine. All I had to pay was my copay of $25 at the doctors office then the pills were $28 for a 30 day supply at Kroger. If you order online from some random website, its like hundreds of dollars - its cheaper just to go to your doctor to get the prescription, plus then you know your actually getting the real thing. My one complaint was the dry mouth but that is the only side effect I had initially. I had a baby last year and gained all the weight back and am up to 235 lbs. So I started taking this pill again on 9/12 and have lost 7 lbs so far as of this morning. I am hoping to get down to atleast 200 or under would be wonderful! I am also Hypothyroid so its almost impossible to lose weight on your own and for me this has been a miracle pill. This time around taking it I am feeling a "weird" sensation that everyone has been talking about - jittery, lightheaded, drowsy. I do not have any extra energy that everyone is talking about - I can still take a nap in the middle of the day but I do have some insomnia which I hope goes away in a few days. If you can get past the dry mouth and jittery feeling, then you will lose weight. You will lose weight even without exercising but I recommend exercising at least 30 minutes a day which will speed up the weight loss. Once you see the pounds come off, then it will motivate you to want to exercise more and eat better. After only 1 week my stomach has shrunk and I can only eat half of what I was eating before. The first time I was on this pill, I was also doing the Atkins Diet which I highly recommend. I am doing Atkins again this time as well but its tough! Good luck everyone!
