Hello, I feel for you and the pain and suffering you're experiencing, i too suffer from severe chronic pain and have CRPS + chronic Osteo-Arthritis + tendonitis. For over 13 years i have suffered from severe nerve pain and osteo-arthritis and the pain NEVER ends, everyday is terrible but after 13 years of trying every single pain medication and every treatment, surgery, rehab, etc etc i am now on a pain control routine that i am now used to and able to live a little also. As for you asking about finding a pain medication that you don't experience withdrawal symptoms but gets you pain relief, IF you use any type of Opiate medications, there is NO getting around the withdrawals that come when you run out of meds or miss a dosage etc. Opiates are a God-Send but unfortunately come with some side-affects that there is no getting around. Opiates must be taken everyday and depending on whether you're taking Instant release tablets or extended release tablets, you either have to take them every 3-5 hours or twice daily. For me i take one extended release tablet in the morning and another one at night before bed. I also take instant release tablets throughout the day every 4 hours or so for breakthrough pain. It took me awhile to get used to but now i am and have little trouble with side-affects or any other issues. As long as i take my meds and stick to my routine i am okay, but if i miss a dosage or run out, (which i never do), it can cause some severe pain and it only gets worse until i take some meds again.

Opiates are excellent for pain management but the withdrawals are brutal i know, so my best advice is stick to your routine and always make sure you have your meds and never run out. Always think ahead and plan your vacations and public holidays so if your pharmacy is closed you're still ok. There is no other pain control medications that work anywhere near as well as Opiates do, if there was I would've tried them for sure or at least heard about them. If your pain is never-ending and painful enough that you have to take pain control medications like Opiates then there is no way around it and you need to just get used to them and find out which medications and what routine works best for you. My suggestion is take an extended release tablet in the morning and then take some instant release tablets throughout the day as needed but take them the same time everyday and ONLY take the amount you truly need, NEVER take more or take them at different times, you will have issues if you do eventually. Once you get used to them you will be ok and able to live your life, it might take a bit but it will happen and you will be totally ok. Pain sucks i know, it controls your life and breaks us down, but just imagine there was NO Opiates for it, imagine the hell our lives would be without their amazing pain relief. I am fully grateful i have them and that they help with my never-ending , brutal, horrible pain, without them i would've killed myself along time ago for sure. Good luck and if you need any more advice or just want to talk, email me {edited for privacy} anytime you like. Take care :)

I am so sorry that your pain is where its at. My mother is enduring her 4th hip surgery. So I have first hand experience with pill addiction and pain. I am currently on suboxone... The only pain medicine I know of that can be taken in conjunction with suboxone is tramadol. I hadn't personally tried it yet but I have tried other alternatives such as kava kava which just helps me sleep... The pain life is a very hard one. The pain makes us emotional and personally me at times suicidal....i wish I had answers for you. I hope someone else sees this and has more to give you than this.... Just please know you are not alone in your struggle!!

hello i'm sorry your having that problem too methadone is a monster to get off of I stepped down every other week 5mg's at a time but withdrawls still hit hard esp on second week of cold turkey I was on a very large dose best way is to get a suboxone dr or see if the place where you get the methadone has a sub program you can transition relatively easy ( relatively) be sure both dr's know what mg your on but unfortunately you will have to start withdrawls befoe you switch methadone is an awesome drug it treats pain and addiction ....but the down side is getting off it the withdrawls without a medical transition will last close to 3 months at least it did for me others may vary my wife stepped down to 10 mgs a day then quit cold turkey I couldn't it was horrible on me I wish you good luck and suggest try to switch to suboxone but you get no pain relief from it that's my delima I have chronic pain and have a .. addiction problem with opiates god bless and be careful

thank you guys for the advice and replies this chronic pain life is for the birds I have tried I believe every one out there my bes combination is oxycodone and yes believe it or not ultram together both fast acting but works for me ive been to the point of believining I was just addicted but cannot fun ction physically even on the blocker meds ie... suboxone the biggest problem is finding a dr who is not in fear that will prescribe in my area pain management dr's get a rough rap frequently getting closed down and being under constant scrutiny from law enforcement and of course being a sufferer of the same problem I have , chronic pain, theirs always a few people who ruin it for all of us these are the ones who cause our dr's problems the reason im trying suboxone now is that these dr's are readily available here pain management dr's aren't my last dr is now closed ...not because of questionable practice but the health dept stepped in when they passed all the investigations from the DEA they did not have adequate parking or waiting area ect very sad that put me in this position that is the second time this has happened I am 44 yrs old and have been depending on thes kind of meds since I was 15 crazy right its a horrible society that we live in where ALL chronic pain sufferers are punished for the misconduct of the "bad apples" out there who abuse this system I am on the search for a dr and am willing to try all or most of hi/her suggestions to sove my problem but my chances are very slim now because of my trying suboxone and because the two dr's that ive seen over the past 25 years have been closed down my fingers are crossed and if anyone has any ideas or solutions to offer i'm in wva and will travel not real far but maybe 100 miles to find one and it makes me happy knowing im not alone god bless good luck to those suffering and congrats to the one above here that has found relief and is now able to enjoy his life

Hi James,

Sorry to here about all that you've been through. I read through the responses to your original post and just wanted to add that I've heard a number of pain patients also recommend trying various strains of Kratom to get relief without relying solely on opiate-based pain medication... However, other reports do suggest that Kratom may be addictive as well. My two-cents is that I think it may be the lesser of the two evils in so far as not having to depend on the government health care system for pain relief and having the freedom to manage it independently. Some might believe this wouldn't necessarily be a good idea...I digress coming from a different perspective, and feel a lack of faith in our healthcare system to continuously provide what we truly need from them in terms of the level of support/quality of meds as it is. I wish that weren't the case, but hearing about all these people who can't fill their doctor's prescriptions is enough writing on the wall for me to go about seeking other means. Kratom is the closest thing to opiates I've heard about, although this is just one option of perhaps many out there...I wish you lots of luck and good health! Take care my friend!

Thank you for your insight, yes the pain life sucks and we are a strong group of individuals to survive it. my struggles sometimes are moral and I have lost track of time during this fight. my biggest mistake was not seeing a counselor before I entered methadone treatment. A phsycologist could have helped me more. I lost my way and started believing I was just an addict. the methadone is an opiate so it controlled the pain but it also came with a price. I was trying to alieve my self of an addiction when it was only a dependence. yes I am dependant on pain medication. I have tried most all kinds from darvacete to oxycontin, had multiple surgeries and nerve block inj's. ending in 2 total hip replacements and fusion in my lower spine. if I woulda got some counseling and realized that my problem was moral I could have saved a lot of needless pain and suffering on my part. I am greatful this place is here for us to relate to each other realizing we are not alone in this battle for a normal enjoyable life is comforting. thank every one of you that replied. I also am taking your advice and im asking my dr about an extended release tablet. sounds actually nice if it works for me. medical advances are amazing these days. im hoping for some solution for this problem. thank you guys for the input and please don't get lost along the way. I'm new to this newsletter and new to having others to talk to that have the same problems. Thank you all and god bless.
