Can you please describe the color and shape of this pill? Also is there any way that the marking might be similar to P570, but maybe the 5 is an 'S' or some other difference?

There does not seem to be much info on the imprint code you posted.

Jamie,

no luck with the pill id; My guess at this point is that it is one of the following:

1) a drug from outside the USA
2) an over-the-counter drug; Basically any prescription medicine and common otc meds are easliy identified. If there is a pill with no information on it, it's usually an independently manufactured otc product.
3) an illegal drug

Obviously i doubt it's number 3, but wanted to share my thoughts with you. Hopefully somebody can help us out here!

We found this pill - P570, white, oblong, with slightly rounded ends - in the room of our 9th-grade daughter. There is nothing written on the back. Have you gotten anymore info. on this stuff. The case with these pills also had some Rx pills that others in the house use.

It's a multivitamin for women.

Jules is right -

P 570 is acetaminophen 500 mg + caffeine 60 mg + pyrilamine maleate 15 mg. This product is generally used for menstrual pain.

Hmmm, that's interesting considering it's in my GNC womens multivitamin bottle and it says nothing about menstrual pain relief... curious.

Beth,
If you'd like to pay for the subscription you can look it up at drugID.info....

That is very interesting. I wonder if two different pills could have the same marking.

A couple questions for both of you guys

1) Beth, when you found those pills with P570 I assume that it was a newly purchased / opened bottle of multivitamins?

2) Can one or both of you post a picture of the pills you have?

It would be so interesting to see two seperate pills with the same marking. I didn't think manufacturers could do that. Unless one product got discontinued and then a new one inherited that marking ? Who knows. Neither of you seem crazy to me so perhaps you're both correct ;)

If it is an over the counter item then there are NO regulations regarding markings, so one could very easily have a marking that is the same as either another over the counter item.

The marking regulations only apply to prescription medications.

For instance a company that manufactures several over the counter medications can, if they wish, use the same markings for ALL of the pills they make, it is entirely up to their discretion.

The government regulations, as I said, only cover prescription drugs, they all must have unique markings for ID purposes, but there is no such law for OTC items.

In other words, yes they could both be correct.

Wow. Then how can any info on this site be 100% correct?

Jules, can't compare apples to oranges - of course the IDs for FDA regulated prescription meds can be correctly identified every time - because their markings are unique and federally regulated. Like Verwon said 'The marking regulations only apply to prescription medications.'

So when it comes to pill ids for over the counter products, pinning down one particular pill is not always as clear cut. And that's why multiples pills can be ID'd based on the same markings.

Definitely a tricky deal but I've been helped greatly in other forums where the pill to be ID'd is a prescription med (not otc).

Cheers,

Roy

Another thing I just thought of which might help alleviate future conflicting OTC IDs is to post the color and shape of the pill in addition to the markings. So perhaps both these pills have P570 on them, but I'm willing to bet that they are different colors / shapes / sizes from one another…

That is a good idea. The pill that I have is approx. 1/2 long, oval and white. Thanks for your time!
