Oxycontin Damaged My Teeth (Page 10)

Has anyone else known oxycontin to rot the teeth? I used to be on vicodin until my doctor told me I needed to switch to a morphine based meds. She put me on ms contin but I had problems with it so she put me on 80mg oxycontin. Eventually my body built up a tolerance so she kept raising it, i have am now on from 4-6 per day of the 80mg tabs. It scares me that this is what rotted my teeth because only 5 yrs ago i had only 2 cavities that needed filling and then only 1 yr after going on the oxycontin i had to have all my top front teeth pulled as they where rotting from the inside out the dentist said my mouth looked like a heroin addict's mouth looks. He said it was shocking to him that normally he only saw such damage from someone who abused drugs with so much dental damage, but i have never done any street drugs and have only take my meds as prescribed to me. Now i have lost 80% of my teeth and as a beautiful 41 yr old mother its devastating. I cant afford dentures and sure cant afford implants like i would like to have. I am a single mother and refuse to date because i have lost my teeth now, i had beautiful teeth before i started on the oxycontin and only 2 small cavities that needed filling. Does anyone else have this same problem and if so why hasn't the company making oxycontin warn patients of this possible problem?

If i had known this would cause me to lose most of my teeth i would have never agreed to go on it. Of course my family doctor who has been prescribing them tells me she hasn't heard of any other cases, yet when i researched the med online there where others like this why hasn't something been put in the warnings about this med, i sure would have preferred to have lived in pain the rest of my life rather than lose my teeth and be unable to even eat now. My health has gone downhill fast as i cant even chew foods necessary for good health. All I can eat now are yogurts, and liquid type of foods which isn't much. My kids are 7 and 9 yrs old and they watch me cry when we go out to eat and they order steak, and i can smell it but can't order one as i know i wont be able to chew it. This is so devastating for me. I want teeth so badly if i could wish for anything in life besides not to be poor anymore it would be to have a full set of real teeth or implants but i could never dream of having them, and i don't know anyone out there willing to just help me get any either. I have always helped others all my life, but cant even help myself, i have had to have 29 surgeries now since 1991 when a drunk driver hit my car and caused me major injuries with my lower back and knees, i have had a full lower back fusion and 8 arthroscopic knee surgeries until a year ago they finally had to do a full right knee replacement and now they are talking about doing my left knee soon.

So my life has been up and down with surgeries and i would go thru one more surgery just to have teeth implanted if i could. but i could never afford it, but i would like to know why these drug manufacturers are making a medication that could cause teeth to rot like this without warning us patients or even warning the doctors about it. This is just terrible of them i think, as now i am the one paying for this by having no teeth to eat with at such a young age now. I am a vibrant young 41 yr old at 5'3, 120lbs, slim woman, nice looking too as i was a model in my younger days, so i keep my looks up. But to have no teeth now... I never smile anymore, I am to ashamed to smile even though it wasn't my fault i lost my teeth. I think they should pay for me to have new teeth but no one wants to admit that the med causes it, but my diet wasn't the problem back when i started the medication and i wasn't drinking coca-cola either or doing street drugs so i know that wasn't the cause either. The only thing that changed within one year to cause this was starting the oxycontin medication. Well, if anyone out there can help me let me know thanks.

I also have had major tooth damage from Oxycodone (Percocet) Im 32 and my teeth are just horrible. went to a dentist to get a estimate.. over 6 thousand dollars.. Just crazy what these pills can do to your teeth. I had to stop from fear of loosing all of my teeth. So Now Im in Pain everyday. From A lower Back Operation. I Can understand why people choose to smoke medical cannabis over these pills.

Nobody besides junkies want to take these narcotics but they HAVE TO due to pain. In my case spinal fusions and severe nerve damage. So this is for you "k" karma WILL get you and I hope your back gets smashed into pieces! Scumb Bag!

with an explanation of how it effects the teeth. If you want. dental implants get an sttorney intetrdted in your case let them know that the manufacturer is at ftault for your loss. and how you have suffered. Please email me if you are successful. Angela I hope you see this post I know your pain and frustration my beautiful dsughter lost all of her teeth after taking m.s.contin. had she known that this would happen she would have never yaken it too lste now snd we have tried for two years to find an attorney but no one is intetested it seems like the loss of all of your teeth is no big deal I have had so many uncaring rude commrnts made to me by callous lawyers men snd women but I will not give up snd you shouldn't either. try getting a lawsuit going and don't take no for an anseer take your story to the media my dsughters storyv was covered on NBC. we thought maybe a lawyer would see it but it didn't happen but if enough people get the word out stuff will happen. Take it to the media tell your story let the public know what corporate drug america has done to your life it is the only way to draw attention to your loss and suffering and hopefully get the attention of an attorney. my ecperience is thhat evetyone thinks that losing your teeth is no big deal but they havebt stood in front of a mirror and looked at a gaping dpace where there once was a mouthful of teeth knowing that a drug company is making billions of dollars off of your loss. Go for it! You have nothing to lose snd eberything to gain posting here is good for the soul but you need to tsje it to the streets. To all of you who are in chronic pain form an injury or from a disease my heart goes out to you. I too am facing the same problem as you. I have lost 85% of my teeth and I am currently dealing with a severe abscessed tooth along with another 6 teeth that are cracked or broken and another 7 missing. I was in a MV in 1998 and was hit by a dump truck and my left elbow was blown apart into 25 pieces, after being in the hospital for over a week and having screws, plates and wire put in my elbow to hold everything together I am still in chronic pain. I have had 8 surgery's on my elbow and finally ending up with a total elbow replacement I am still in chronic pain and take Oxycontin, a very high dose. Now my teeth are so embarrassing I don't want to go anywhere or smile or laugh. I am in sales and I have to constantly talk to people and I am embarrassed and humiliated. My dentist said the same thing you people are saying that it's meth mouth, but I have never taken any illegal drugs or substances and only take my medication as directed by my doctor. It is so embarrassing having to explain everything to everybody, then they think you are a junkie. Now I get my medication from Purdue on the Patient Assistance Program because I don't have insurance. I would get behind a class action law suit. I also may know a lawyer who would get on board. He was actually a doctor before he was a lawyer. Good luck to everybody I feel your pain and don't think it is fair that a huge drug company doesn't disclose all side effects of the medication.

I have the same issues and matter of fact I have a tooth that cracked just Monday. I strongly believe that the oxycontin are to blame! But I also chew mine. I know that you are not supposed to. But it's chew them or request a dose increase and I am avoiding that conversation like a plage! I already am prescribed three 80mgs a day and six 30mg oxycodones. I need a increase have been on the same dosage for two years now. It's time but that should be a forum question also. HOW TO APPROACH YOUR PAIN MANAGEMENT DOCTOR WITH INCREASING YOUR DOSAGE IN A ALREADY TOUCHY SITUATION! Just know you are not alone and I think as long as we take these we will have problems in one way or another. Some are just easier to deal with!

I have been taking oxycontin for several years now for back pain. Over the last couple of years I have had Major problems with my teeth braking cracking and simply just falling right out of my mouth. I am thirty nine years old this should not be happening. So far I have lost three from them just basically just crumbling away. The reason I Google about this is because my Dr. and I spoke about this today. She informed my that they are noticing the people are having alot of problem with their teeth after taking this medication for a period of time. When she said this to me I thought to myself this explains alot and why in the hell wouldn't the drug manufacturers put a huge warning that this might happen. After being prescribed oxycontin for so many years for my pain I can't just come right off of it but I'm scared about losing any more teeth. Once their gone their gone for good. Who know something that is suppost to help you can hurt you so Bad.

Hello, I have the same problem. I had perfect teeth prior to taking oxycontin also anti depressants also causer it to happen. The other guy was right on one thing. It is caused by dry mouth.. its a side effect of the meds. "THAT YOU WERE DIRECTED TO TAKE B Y YOUR DOCTOR" You do have a claim secondary to your original claim. you have been injured from treatment. (((((
1.- The reason your teeth rotted was from a side effect "dry mouth"
2.- Your teeth would not have problems if we didn't Need to take medication directed and approved by W/C.
3.- You would not have this problem, you would not be on this medication, if not for you original injury.
4.- Thus the connection to your original injury.
5.- Its the same as depression connection not being able to what you used to do.

I just lost another tooth to rotting from inside out I have been on oxycontin 4 years now I had back fusion with hardware and then year later had hardware removed pain is still there worse now than before the first op.
Doctor had me on the oxycontin all this time just going up in amount and down in amount my teeth have been getting worse did not know anyone was having same problem is there anyone who cares about what the med is doing.with the med pain is lower with out pain is unbearable what can we do all the post I see have same problem soon I will have to drink my food some fun

OMG! How incredibly HEARTLESS, NOT TIO MENTION CRUEL! You obviously have not only glossed over the fact that the drug company doesn't make that fact well known but, more important, YOU HAVEN'T WALKED (or even crawled) IN THIS PERSONS SHOES! You should absolutely ashamed of yourself. I, too, am suffering from the very same issue and for the very same reason, and NOT ONE of the drs ever told me, even while they watched my teeth rot in front of them, that it was the rx that was causing it! SHAME, SHAME ON YOU!

I have been taking oxycontin 80mg for years. I have beautiful teeth. I follow my prescription, and don't look for "euphoria", just relief.
Perhaps the amount you are taking has put you in such a stupor you are forgetting to brush.
Remember, oxycontin is like heroin, if you are not strong minded you will never have enough.
Good luck and for goodness sake NEVER run out, at that dose you will sufferer hell on earth like no other hell that has come before.

I would definitely join in a class action suit! How do we start one, how many people do we need, will there be a cost involved? Would you ask your lawyer friend? I, too, would love to be able to smile again (even though, when your in chronic pain, those times are few and far between, we all need to smile as much as possible!).
