Oxycontin OP is brand new to the market and is replacing the regular Oxycontin.

The only difference is that the Oxycontin OP has been specially formulated to help prevent abuse. Even if someone tries to crush or chew it, it will retain its time released properties.

Otherwise, it works the same and has the same side effects: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation and dizziness.

If you are having problems with the medication, your best option is to report it to the manufacturer and the FDA:

Purdue Pharma number for drug safety/medication issues:

888.726.7535

FDA MedWatch number:

800-332-1088

Is there anything else I can help you with?

I have been taking oxycontin 20 mg.4x daily for 8 years. I have not yet tried the new formulated op's.I am in absolute agreement that if narcotic med's can be made that are abuse proof fabulose. However i also want them to be safe. The new ingrediates frighten me. My understanding is not much research was done with the safety of these new oxycontins. They just don't know what long term side effects there may be. I was just reading how corrupt the FDA has become..iand are approving drugs that in time will kill thousands. Viox is a good example. It killed 60,000 people a year before taken off the market. 120,000 people suffered heart attacks after taking viox. This drug never should have been placed on the market. Never! I fear that the new formulated oxycontin will kill many before its taken off the market. Does anyone else have the same concerns.? By the way a top guy who worked in the FDA left and is now speaking out just how corrupt the FDA has become as well as big pharma. Apparently there are a few drugs out there apporved that he claims should never have been approved and in his opinion these will kill many. Was wondering if the new oxycontin was one of them.

Wrong, Verwon, Sorry. Ck my thread-"the new oxycontin sucks"-it does NOT work the same, It threw me back down, w/ wierd side-effects. I am not, nor will be an abuser. If God crushes your legs/nerves and you get cancer-I did nothing wrong, yet have to endure new an horrible side=effects. Nice.

I am in so much pain right now due to this change that I was not even aware of until yesterday. I haven't had any sleep for the last couple nights because the pain is so bad. I'm up now again it's 5am in excruciating pain, I can't wait to speak to my doc I thought that my pain was getting worse and that I was going to have to increase my oxy 80mg to a higher dose and that scared me, then I read all these post yesterday about the oxy's having the change in formula and realized that it wasn't me, which was a relief in a way but something needs to be done! I can understand how this could affect someones life. I couldn't stand the pain the last couple so I took another 80mg of oxycotin and that didn't even help. I increased the vicodin I take 6 pills instead of 4 now. Still no relief.
SOMETHINGS GOT TO BE DONE!!!

I agree about the OC/OP why do these idiots keep keep changing up the meds? I have been on OXY 80mg/3 times a day and these new ones do not do what the old ones did for pain, nothing close. So what I've had to do is in the morning instead of taking one I pop 2 at once and that barely does the trick. I am about to start taking either an extra pill a day 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon or just waiting as long as I can and take all 3 together as late as I can to get at least some good during the day. I am good for about 5 hours a day tops without pain and I have to manipulate the dosages to get that. It's pathetic. The old Oxy would take care of the pain nicely I could wake up at 5-6 am and take one 80 mg and go back to sleep until about 7 and the pain would be getting under control where I could start out the day good and not in a fog, now I am all whacked out having to manipulate these new pills just to get up to 5 good productive hours in the day then I am either in too much pain or totally wiped out to do anything but sleep or sit in the recliner. It sucks. The medical profession doesn't give a rat's ass about your pain just about protecting themselves from lawsuits and making as much off you as they can. The pain docs and general docs know of this change in Oxy and not one of them has told or asked me if I am still getting the pain relief needed. I don't want to be proactive to it because you get labeled a drug seeker so I just try to manipulate what I have to the best possible relief. I am very seriously thinking of smoking Marijuana to see if that would help with the pain and just get off these pills.
That would be a total cost of ZERO dollars a year if it worked and it's natural. OF COURSE no doctor or pharmaceutical company would make a penny off it so they keep Marijuana illegal because I really believe if I could take a hit about 5 times a day of pot it would give me the same or more relief than these pathetic new OC are giving at 117.00 a month co-pay plus what they get out of the insurance company. It's a farce. Thank God that leaders across the Globe are now addressing making drugs legal because the war is being lost. I feel if I want to try to find relief in either growing Marijuana or Poppy for Opiate relief I should have the right to grow something that is natural on this planet. It's my life, my pain and the medical professionals are nothing but about money.

My fiance has been one of these individuals who has had chronic pain and been on pain meds for at least the last 6 years. He has been controlling his pain with what they have been giving him for the most part but when they switched this new formulation from the Oxy 80mg OC's to the Oxy 80mg OP's, it has severely messed up his system. They are making him so sick and are not helping with the pain. He as well has said something to his doctor as well as I have, and the only answer we have been given is to continue to take this medicine, but take even more of it! WTH!!! I am not about to wake up in the middle of the night or even in the morning to my fiance laying dead to me!!! I think that they need to keep manufacturing the old formulation and these doctors need to prescribe the old formulation to the ones who they know really needs it and won't abuse it and then prescribe the OP's to the ones that they are unsure of or the ones they are pretty sure are the abusers. The purpose of pain medicines is to help take away the pain, but how are they going to come up with a new formulation (which is banned in Mexico and Canada, due to it being a carcinogen, and which in fact wasn't tested on humans. Some studies have shown that it was tested on rats, however, the rats sustained liver damage from this testing). What do they think is going to happen to humans after using this formulation for a little while? They are too worried about the lawsuits they were getting over the OC's and people dying from abusing the drug, how many lawsuits do they think they will get when this new formulation kills even more people??? I for one am very worried about my fiance and what this formulation is doing to him, and I for one think we all need to stand up and tell Purdue to fix this issue!!!!
