I stumbled on this thread as I wasn't notified of the change, am in one he** of a lot of pain, just had my 4th surgery this year & damn my pain levels are through the roof. The ER doctor (yep, had to go to the ER) thought I might be going through withdrawls, but he wasn't sure. I assured him that no, I'm still taking my medication, still have some too, and wondered why I've been in SO much pain! I'm going to the doctor this morning & am very glad I found this thread & the notice. Yes, I was having problems with the meds used in surgery & had just gotten a refill about the time I had my last surgery. This is the 1st I've heard of this, I checked my tablets, which did look a little thicker than usual & YES! the 20mg tablets here are labeled with the OP on one side, the OC on the other. So... it seems that the ER visit was for nothing IF anyone here had been notified! Not even the ER doc here said anything about it & seemed perplexed... Now I know why I haven't been sleeping, been in more pain than I can take & WAS going to ask my doctor for a dosage increase. Perhaps I need to as for MS instead? This makes the clinical picture a whole lot more complicated, as I have no idea how much of this less I've been absorbing! Clearly enough to make my life a living h**. I've been on OC for well over 10 years and have been on 20mg 3x.day. It's no wonder I've been in bed, wasn't able to go to PT (was exhausted with pain/not sleeping) before I went into my last surgery. I couldn't figure out, nor could my doctors, what was going on. Was on a lot more NSAID shots that are likely messing with my kidneys.

I'm calling! Time to write on every pain list & board everyone & let everyone know what's going on!

My guess is new formula, no generics either?

Whenever MedCo gets involved with anything medical, it winds up costing me more!

MedCo may save their stockholders money, but they sure don't give a damn about patient care!

If there are people who want to abuse it, I say give it to them OTC, send them to an island & let them knock themselves out!

This War on Drugs has once again become a war against chronic pain patients!

I wonder what an ER visit, labs, chest X-Ray, ECG, IV & about 5 hours in the ER is going to cost? Not to mention the gas to get there & back & the pain I went through, the sleepless nights AND all the tests we're now going to have to re-do are all going to cost?

My choices are extremely limited already due to allergies & other health problems. I certainly don't need this right now! When were they planning to tell everyone? AFTER the ER visits & unnecessary tests that might have all been a direct result of this not-very-well-announced change in our medication?

Is this why just about every pain list & every other place on the web it seems have Rapid Detox clinics advertising all over the place? Like the one I see above where I am typing? And this is saving who money MedCo & PurDue?

When did you plan to tell my doctors? The ER doctors? My pharmacist?

It's no wonder between this & getting Toradol shots I've been having seizures again that I haven't had in over 10 YEARS! So kill the chronic pain patients, and detox those who don't have as fragile of health? Isn't the genocide? Certainly begs the question of ADA rights!

I'm NOT amused & now wonder how long this has been going on?

It saddens me to see a call for a cla$$-action lawsuit from an ambulance chasing lawyer. The folks at Perdue who did this have the best of intentions, and are trying to solve the very real problem of legal and illegal buyers of OxyContin grinding up the pills to put it up their noses or inject it into their veins.

The new formulation, according to the pharmacist I called at Perdue, gives the same amount of oxycodone to the patient. However, instead of giving the user 30% or so of the dose within the first hour (so, for example, you get 12mg, the equivalent of 2-1/2 Percocets) from a 40-mg dose, you get that 30% in the first two hours, like taking only one Percocet instead of two at the start of the dose. Chronic use leads to about the same steady-state concentration of oxycodone in the blood.

The main difference will be that people don't notice that it's working because it comes on more subtly. For those who have been on really slow-onset opioids, for example the Duragesic patch or Avinza, this will be familiar (the first Duragesic patch doesn't kick in for 12 hours!). In general, pain management works best with a constant amount of opioid in the blood, with breakthrough medications when additional pain is caused by activity.

Don't call the lawyers -- it only encourages them!

I for one feel violated, as most pain sufferers know, the doc doesn't just put you on oxycontin. It is a long battle, trying meds, combonations of meds, to find the right ones fir you. When finally being put on oxycontin, I got some of my life back, the chains, per say, were loosened. I am angry that Perdue has played with my pain management, as they did!! I do have some questions!! First was there a long term study done on the new op's? What exactly is the new gel agent and how will it effect me in 5 years? Idk, I for one have filed a complaint with the FDA, good luck to all and stay pro active in your pain management!!

Stevie sounds like a junkie... he just said some people will need the original formula for immediate release, then he just went and said that he does not crush or chew is... the original formula was never intended for immediate release, they have immediate release oxycodone products already up to 30 MG, as far as how good the OP works, as soon as I get some I will eat 120 MG whole like i always did with the OC and I will make a determination on how good it actually is for myself.

theyre craking down on all of the pain meds..but only some of the oc's will be moved to op's....ive seen alot of the op 20's the past month. but i still see oc 40's,60's, and 80's..i get prescribed the oxycodone 30mg instant realease, and they have really cracked down on that. But thats what I have to get due to the high price of oxycontin. I live in Florida and out of state pill tourists and abusers have started to ruin it for people who need it.It's next to impossible to fill the prescription once you do get it, pharmacies will only fill for people who are established...prepare for the worse.

You know JimBob or what ever your name is, you completely took what I said out of context. I was referring to the terminally ill needing IR Oxycontin for break through pain management. And you are quite mistaken, I do not chew them or abuse them in any way. I really take offense to your accusations of me being a junkie. Go insult someone else to their face (not sitting behind a keyboard) and see how your day progresses. Have a good life............

Mark, you dont believe I take them as directed? Who are you, I ever meet you? You sayen I'm bs'n ? You ever take the 453's ? They off the market cuz they didn't help! Footballs?? Off the market cuz they didn't help!! Obviously your not a pain patient because you would know the fine balance between pain and relief !! Don't be a negative prick amigo, lmao... Really!! I've had 37 inches of my colon removed so that is approx 4-5 hrs less a long lasting ER med last in my system!! Speak of which you know and not of which you think you know!!

Det :
I actually am I rehab counselor and see and hear this everyday. I do not use never have and never will cause I see the ways of the evil pills and blame the Dr for not doing a solid job as monitoring the use. I speak as I see fit to see...No person would complain about a drug that has the known side effects and addiction as OC's does that complains they do not work is your not addicted. If it walks like a duck and quacks as a duck - it a duck.... My education and years of working in the field and speak for the truth as your admitting on a website about a drug of addiction...

i looked up info regarding the new medication and found that for terminally ill and cancer patients a very few select others would still have the option of getting the old formula of oxycontin. i know people here who are still getting the original formulation to this day because of their condition, not because of their tolerance level.

FDA will not let the OLD formulation be produced and Purdue needs to follow the strict guidelines of the FDA to continue to produce there drugs

I also am prescribed O.C 40's brand only. I was told by my pharmacist that the had to return any O.C.'s they had in stock and that the new brand was the O.P. 40's I've had 2/3 of my pancreas removed along with my gall bladder, some of my small intestine, and my stomach. I am getting so sick from these new pills. I don't know what to do. I feel so ashamed as it is that I can no longer function like a normal human being. I'm in bed for 4 hours before I start feeling the affects of these meds. I thought it was just me until I started reading. I have such a bad digestive system I thought I was the only one with these systems. I am also having trouble sleeping and I'm getting wicked migranes

Call your Doctor if your that sick....and tell them.,...PURDUE don't care abt you and the illness...your Doctor will change your meds and help you....UNLESS you do not take them as prescribed....snort , inject...ect...... come on people they know all the ticks of the trades so when you call them you will be undermining yourself as a addict to them....that's what they want so they can change your meds from the MOST ADDICTED PAIN KILLER to a more controlled meds....

I take 60 mg oxycontin, 3x per day. Just switched to the new op, I personally haven't noticed anything major , except some elevated acid reflux, and it takes a little longer for the first dose to start working. When it does start working, I do get pain relief comparable to the oc. HEY DET, I can see why you aren't getting relief, your shortened intestin doesn't allow for full absorption.. Seems like alot of people like to JUDGE, cmon people, were here to HELP each other not hurt each other, most of us are in enough pain!!

Please , won't somebody do something about this, I'm in soo much more pain now. After my accident at 31 yrs old, I lost everything, couldn't work, lost my home, car, career, savings, had to sell all my treasures. Then my dr put me on 40 mg oxycontin and 15mg oxycodone for break through. I got my life back, new job, car, ect. Now I'm on oxycontin op, the pain is back!! I'm scared, I don't want to live a life of pain and poverty!!! For some this drug was abuse #1 but for most it helped!! Go after the abusers via law inforcment!! Not by taking away the medication that gave me my life back!! PLEASE HELP!!
