that is great "OkinKY" that you can get by with oxycodone. I can not take any form of it
and it is not strong enough for me.
Finally there is a article in my local newspaper concerning the KAPER LAW. It has a quote from Gov Beshear as follows "If you really need your medication you will get it" I am contacting his office to ask him where I can go and get what I really need to control my pain around the clock and function like I was prior to his irresponsible, discriminating laws against disabled citizens. The Kasper law violates my civil rights. Other Pain pts. should do the same.

@OkayinKY First off I do not have issues getting meds in Ky it is directed to the use of PASSPORT insurance ..PM Dr's do not want to deal with it because of the new laws..It is basically medical welfare and PM's have to accept it now due to the new laws. And they do not make hardley nothing off of it..I still get 90 hydromorphone a month and 180 methadone 10s there is no issue on getting meds. You need to go through right channels but there are many that think that the script mills are still open and those days are past.. Frankly these type of people screwed it up for many of us that have real issues.. Now herion is all over the streets not pills the gov made a bigger problem.. As Ringo Starr said many years ago anything the gov gets their hands on turns to crap..

@GReg. The reason there is no issue with you getting your meds is because those doses are very low. When I was on Morphine I was on a 60 mg tablet I took 2 a day. But there are people that get even stronger Morphine.

@Sandy Turley first off methadone puts morphine to shame I do not know where you got you're info from but 60 mg of methadone a day is far higher than the 120 mg of morphine..Try almost double the strength and on top of that I take the hydromorphone... I am afraid you are on the low dose and I am thinking you are on Time released meds which will not help break through pain...

@Sandy Turley Methadone is more effective than morphine at treating pain and typically causes less adverse effects, but the good news doesn’t stop there. Another benefit of methadone is its extended half-life. A half-life is the time required for half the quantity of a drug to be metabolized or eliminated by normal biological processes. Because of this extended half-life, methadone has a pain-relieving effect of 8 to 10 hours, while regular nonextended release morphine only relieves pain for 2 to 4 hours. This translates into less frequent dosing for the patient, usually two or three times a day.

And last, but not least, methadone is extremely cost-effective. A typical month supply of methadone costs about $8, while morphine will typically cost over $100. Other opiates, such as Oxycontin and Fentanyl, will cost even more.

I totally disagree with anyone who thinks methadone is better than morphine. I have been on both for 24 hour pain control. You are lucky if methadone relieves your pain for more than 3-4 hours, then you need more. Unless you are getting a mega dose at a meth clinic and it does not last the 24 hours. Morphine however if taken in both ER and IR will work around the clock.
You do not wake up from intense pain like I do on meth.
Most important you can go cold turkey on morphine if you had to at home. But not so on methadone, you need a medical detox.
I was able to get off methadone only after I was put on morphine and weaned down.
Using nothing but celebrex, skelaxin and biofeed back. I was able to stay off for 10 years. I wish I did not need pain relief now, I liked my freedom better.

Methadone vrs Morphine dosage amounts to this.. For every 1MG of methadone you would need to take 3MG of morphine. It is common Knowledge most PM Dr's break it down just as that. And there is lots of Opiate conversion sites on the web that do verify this. Most people do not like methadone for several reasons but it is a good pain killer and is used in cancer cases now.

LOL weened off methadone with morphine.. I have kicked all of it without going to detox centers at one time in my life or another..Methadone is a little harder it stores in the fat tissues but it aint that damn hard.. And BTW methadone is stronger than morphine take it from an ex junkie..

BS the reason they use it for cancer patients is the government wants to get all the other drugs off the street. They think people won't abuse it because it won't get you "high" It has nothing to do with it being better or stronger. The GOVERNMENT wants
to control everything. That is why are medical records are no longer protected.

@sbsierr Well I already suspected this it all comes down to the getting high thing..And i was wondering when it would come out.How much methadone was you really on? The starting dosage at the clinic where I work at is 30mg and that will mess many people up. And that dosage is for opioid tolerant people starting out the highest dosage that is handed out 180mg then after that it gets a little tricky..and BTW I lived that side of the coin for many years then decided to acquire my MS in Counseling - Mental Health Counseling.. I know addicts and seekers real well go figure I used to be one.. when you started with the high thing shows me two things you never done methadone and you definitely are a seeker..

Bobby You are one of the problems real chronic pain patients have to suffer for. I have and I am currently on methadone. In Michigan I drove to Detroit to a meth clinic everyday except Sunday. I was sent there because my insurance company was going to take my doctor to court for writing me pain medicines like stadol every 3 days. I started on the starting dose of 30 mg. However because meth is not intended for pain control, I ended up on 125 mg.
I am currently on it because I reside in KY and can not get ANY REAL PAIN MEDS BECAUSE ALL THE ADDICTS KEEP KILLING THEMSELVES.

@sbsierr I have no issues in Ky at all Nortons takes good care of me.. I can name off a few good PM's one of them writes more narcotics than any other Dr in the state.. But go figure you gotta have your Documentation and you need to get a good referral. And if you do not like it in Ky you have the option to move.. But it is getting to be the same everywhere..Dont feed me that BS you are not fooling me and obviously you are not fooling anyone but yourself..

@Bobby..

Is there anyway you can possibly give me the names of a few pm places with Norton's? I am currently a patient at Healing Options with Dr. Baird who lost his license in KY at the end of May 2013. Hearing is not until August 2013. Unaware that he lost his license, I had an appointment on May 30th. When I went in, the lights to one side of his office were off and all patients were sent to the right side where there is a little office in which you had to leave a urine specimen, mouth swab, or lab for a usual drug screening.

As usual on the day of my appointment, I proceeded to the office on the right, for vitals, and drug screening as usual. After doing those things, the nurse practitioner shut the door and told me that Dr. Baird was unable to prescribe the normal monthly medicines due to losing his license.

His patients were advised to sign a records release, given a prescription for clonidine and that was basically it. I asked if they had a list of places to go and was told that they didn't, but to look around on the internet.

I have tons of documentation as I've been through it all as everyone else... I have a wonderful primary care physician who saw me and prescribed what I had been getting from Dr. Baird, but wants to send me to pain management. I just need to let the office know who I want to be referred to.
I've been to a neurosurgeon, have MRI's, and my problems have been ongoing since 2001. I've had epidurals, along with numerous other procedures.

My only other options is another surgery, but when I asked if Dr. B thought that the surgery would work again, he stated that due to the length of time of my problems, the nerve damage could be permanent so there is no guarantee that another surgery would even be of any help.

If you could possibly give me just a few names of some places, I would appreciate your help so much. I can get a referral easily as the office of my PCP is just awaiting me to give them some names of referrals for them to try. Thank you so much! I don't know how to leave info such as email.. I will help you any way too that I can.

Shwagle, are you still in need of PM? I am in aurora I go to arvada. Unified HealthGroup they do PM chiro, lumbar facet injections. There is a cash dr. in WheatRidge Co Dr, May Ive heard great dr.however both facilities I know have been harassed by DEA. Doc will not prescribe me oxy,but willing to prescribe the ER form, if you have records that show you have been getting the 30's its possible but thereare 2 good places to start. I heard CPR in Wheatriddge will prescribe oxy, but will do so only with an er form of meds...I cant speak for he dr's but if you have legitimate paperwork and proof that you were currently taking oxy 30 you should be good to go. Also there is a forum for us coloradans it's called Doctors willing to prescribe heavy pain medication in Co area, (something similar just search Mac ison there as well as patients that are seeing these docs I have recommended , allthe info hat I didn't explain very well is on that sight

Bobby, I have 20 years of medical records documenting my progressive degenerative disk disease, end root and spinal cord compression, osteoarthritis & fibromyalgia. I am on regular social security disability for being chronic pain. I have several letters from surgeons & doctor's stating surgery will do nothing for me. I will need pain control for the rest of my life.
Do you think I qualify? If you know a doctor in KY who will write for long term pain control medication, I would like their name. I can get several referrals.
I do not like KY at all, it is a whole in the ground and I will be moving out west in the fall.

@sbsierr You can say you have a bunch of medical conditions. the thing is do you qualify under the new rules and have you had any surgeries.First off from discussions with one PM Dr if you have not had any surgeries or at least one scheduled you do not qualify. Most Dr's even run your criminal record now any drug charges disqualifies you. Another major thing and this one I hate is if you ever been kicked out of a program in this state you are blackballed with them all..But there again to get kicked you failed a drug test or a count. The only condition I have seen that you have listed is the cord compression that would equal herniated or at least bulging disks..That might equal surgery and it is the only thing I see that might get you in the door. The other thing you really messed yourself on is not staying with a lower dose at the methadone clinic. You might not know the same people that give out the license for the methadone clinics now dictate how much PM,s can write.. And your dose is to high. Even before the laws was put in place not one Dr that I have ever known would write out that much methadone..And a little advice for you... You better find a PM quickly if you go into a re evaluation on you re disability if you are not in a PM program some of these rehab specialists will not give you a good report to the state who in turn reports it back to social security.. That I never would agree with but they are doing it.If you have the records a GP will get you into a program but it takes 3 months.. Moving west is not a bad Idea myself is selling off my house also I have been offered a better opportunity in the north east. Maine is the place to go.....If you know what I mean..

@Greg, I can't argue with any of your points, there have been 3 deaths in my small community alone from heroin in the past month, all 3 from what I understand were addicted to opiates and turned to heroin because its easier for them to get. If the governor really wanted to help the addicts that don't need the meds to relieve legit pain he should offer free rehab for them, beyond those drug & alcohol classes, & left those of us who actually need the meds alone. I'm not sure who to contact but you're right, we all need to pull together.
