Kdavis, I know they can repair the torn rotary cuff, why have your doctor's not offer to repair it. My aunt had the same problem, but her over all health was so poor her doc's refused to operate. They told her she would not survive the sugery.

I disagree Keeta, Maybe a certain doc has implied the rule you have to live not further than 1 hour away. My current doc has patients driving from all over KY.
The main problem is there are very few CERTIFIED Pain Doc's. The key word here is CERTIFIED, they have to further their education in pain medicine. Which cost them money and time. Add the expense to install the Kasper system, monthly cost to use it and educating their office staff how to use it.
The bottom line is the doctor's who were writing for pain meds just stopped.

@sbsierr. I'm having surgery on the 11th of April and I am scared to death. One cause I just had toe surgery and I was given 5mg percocets which isn't working at all. I normally take 1 to 2 15mg percocets every 4 to 6 hours so I knew the fives weren't going to work. I had a horrible second day after the surgery. I told the doc the fives will not work and he wouldn't listen. I have a lot of problems and I need my mere to be semi normal in life. Lol

People who don't have chronic pain don't understand us and they never will unless they get hurt serverely.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am a physician and I understand your concerns and they are valid. The problem is the misuse and the obvious patients who fill pain medications for a secondary profit. Very difficult as a provider to differentiate between the two and are licenses are at stake. For those of you willing to consider a different approach to your pain management and as a way to show your physician that you are a true pain patient is for you to consider the new grade of transdermal meds that contain many of the same medications but are prepared in an ointment base. Little to no capacity for abuse but very successful in reducing pain levels and bypasses the gastrointestinal tissue that is so often irritated with pain medications. If you are interested please contact me at {edited for privacy} and I can refer you to a provider who can prescribe these topical medications or I can contact your physician and provide them with the needed data to assist you.

Hi Dr. B. Wow, so grateful that a Dr. hears our concerns. And not belittle ling us. Many Drs. in my area want to do the shots. I had a severe reaction to the shots, they almost killed me. I do best on 30mg of oxycodone. I can actually move. Go for walks, and be able to read laying on my back in bed. And I am searching for a new Dr, because I was seeing a temporay Dr, and then a new one came in his place. This Dr. is a China man. When I first met him, he gave me the 30mg of oxycodone 3 x a day instead of 4. Then last month he gave me 15 mg of oxycodone, 3x a day with a 10 mg of Methodone 2 x a day. Now you know his plan right? He told me I can go elsewhere, and so Iam going to go see a Dr in Erie. I am so tired of having to start over. And I feel like he won't give me what works great for me.
As for the patches. I am seriously allergic to the latex, or whatever the sticky material they use so it sticks to your skin. I wish you could tell my new Dr. that I am a pain patient. A seriously in need of the 30mg oxycodone. I do appreciate you coming on here, and talking to us.
Sandy

This is in reply of Dr B post and I have a ?.. First off is these medications have Ketoprofen and basically non narcotic drugs? I tried these types of preparations in late 2008 and it winded me up basically in the hospital to detox from a overdose of ketamine. I have tried back then opium suppositories they had good results but the company that was making them stated to the FDA they could not get one of the ingredients which was belladonna. The Dr that wrote the percription for that ketoprofen lotion has wrote no more since then to anyone. Now there are Duragesic patches and those are very costly. And there is BuTrans which is somewhat effective in some people. I am interested in hearing back from you because I am looking for a new Dr that will take my medicare. Most pain mgmt Dr's wont accept it.

Thanks Dr. B, I will look into the transdermal meds. My guess is my insurance company will not pay for them or require a high co-pay. On a fixed income I can not afford it.

Dr. B

Have tried transdermal before and have a couple of questions. When u get a fentanyl patch isn't it like 5mcg?? How do micrograms compare to say 30mg of whatever medication??? There is a big difference between micro Ãnd milli, is there not??? Since its been so long I forget if the patches get applied like lido patches where you need 1 for each of your 3 chronic pain sites?? Also doc I get endoscopies frequently and they have stopped giving me the versad/fentanyl combo because at 6x the dose of a normal person and I'm still wide awake talking. Granted this is for sedation but fentanyl is part of it. Knowing my reaction to Fentanyl do they make a strong enough patch?? Please respond or call two one eight two one three seven four one six.

In Bowling Green, Try Interventional Pain Specialist,
Ask for the pain medicine dept. . 270-745-PAIN, They would only prescribe me Oxycodone, which I can not take.
You will need a referral, a current MRI, doctor's notes from
the last doc you saw, etc.

WHY? would a 22 year old need chronic pain meds?
There are a few reasons I can think of.
I sit for hours at my doctor's while all these YOUNG people walk back to see the doc. You would never guess they were in pain the way they move, stand, sit, bend, and especially the way they TALK. This is a large part of why the people who really need it can not get it.

@Sbsierr, although I don't like to judge or assume I can only think of a couple of reasons a 22yo would need long term pain meds 1. They were either in some sort of horrific accident that caused a lot of long term damage (but I'd think if that were the case there'd be some type of insurance, car, workmans comp, ect) or possibly they were born with a disease/disability, again you'd think insurance would be involved, Medicare/Medicaid or 2. They either want to get "high" or sell them. I really hope it's not #2, bc that is exactly the behavior that has caused all of the "red tape" and hoops that those with legitimate chronic pain are have to deal with.

My patches started off at 50mcg's. Had me high as hell for 2 weeks non-stop. Once my body adjusted, they worked GREAT.Just be careful, they can and will kill, as its easy to O/D with something as simple as a hot bath which will release a potential leathel dose and cardiac arrestt will end your life.Sadly many have died like this or a torn patch for the gel ones. But most are due to abuse.

That is exactly my point KY girl 1. Getting high or selling them is why the TRUE!! CHRONIC PAIN PT. can not get the meds they need. OR the meds they really need to control their pain. Take me for example, I have to settle for Methadone. Methadone is NOT for the tx of chronic pain. or even sit

To Gymnast in pain.
If a Dr gives you morphine & oxycodone, they are both very low doses, I don't see how anyone who is a pain patient, feel that this dose is sufficient. I don't even think you will have withdrawal. But if u have any of either one of them left, start breaking them in half until you find another DR.

Methadone is effective for pain if the dose is correct. Dont expect a high though. Thats how people od. They increase methafone to get high then it catchs up and they quit breathing. Good drug high risk as people look for that good feeling. If used benzos like xanax ris quadruples for death. Methadone goes into the system slower and stays longer. You need to dose up slow. 10mg methadone equiv to 20mg oxy. Look it up there are opiate conversin tools online. Iwas shot in hip by .30 cal that lodged in spine methadone saved my ass plus it is cheap. Been on it ten years. Moved to ky and now cant find doc without playing doctor shop. I have 12 days before i am in deep crap as i will be out. Ideas... good luck everyone we need to go capital steps and show the people what real pain is and what witdrawels are....unfortunatly it will force many to heroin or cocaine for relif. The real silk road is expensive as hell. 30 bucks for 30mg oxy go tigure
