Nuvigil Rash

Updated

I have been taking Nuvigil pretty consistently for about a 2 month period now for OSA, and have noticed what look like bug bites or hives popping up here and there on my body. I have anxiety disorder as well, and have had allergies since I moved to this area. I have had hives in the past due to both of these conditions, so I am not sure if it is just related to allergies or anxiety. Naturally, after reading the potential side effects for Nuvigil, I have some concern. It is not SJS (From the pictures I have seen), but I am not sure if the Nuvigil is contributing to the hives that have been popping up randomly. Has anyone else experienced this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello, Sandman! How are you?

If they are similar to the ones you've gotten before, then it this is most likely happening due to allergies and not the medication. A medication allergy wouldn't come up and go, nor would it would it be just here and there. Since the medication is systemic, it would affect most of your body.

Nuvigil is listed by the FDA as being used to treat narcolepsy, excessive sleepiness from sleep apnea and other similar conditions. Typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and insomnia.

Have you tried anything to alleviate the hives?

Thank you for your response, and I am doing well. I am currently applying a topical prescription strength creme in the morning and evenings. I haven't seen much reduction in the swelling or fluid content over the last two weeks of taking it. The Dr. also prescribed what I believe is a pill form type steroid (I don't have the rx in front of me), and told me to wait two weeks to see if the creme cleared it up. If not, I could go back to the pharmacy and fill that Rx. I am probably just being paranoid here, but I just wanted to make sure that this isn't the beginning of a worsening skin condition as a result of taking the Nuvigil. It does seem to help with my excessive daytime sleepiness as a result of my sleep apnea, so I want to make sure I give it a good opportunity be fore I choose to discontinue it because of paranoia of "Potential" side effects.
