My pain management specialist stopped taking my insurance.
At first visit new country doctor just out of Osteopathy School says he 'doesn't believe in narcotic meds' - not a good sign for his patients. He took me cold turkey off time-released morphine I'd been on for 6 yr from Pain Mgmt Specialist. and I suffered terribly. Yet he continued my Xanax for panic attacks/anxiety.
He replaced 1 pain pill with 5 new ones including Cymbalta, Ultram, Neurontin,, Elavil, Arthrotec and a Ketamine compound cream - I'm having negative side effects from them but he doesn't care. I am in so much pain I cannot function. Some days all I do is lay in bed trying not to move. My pain is so bad I have clinched my jaws w/o realizing it and I've lost 3 lower jaw teeth cuz of it.
After messing everything up, this new doc saw me once and then stopped accepting my insurance and left me completely without a doctor, just a recommendation for next doctor not to put me back on ANY narcotics but continue meds he started - he's just a family doctor, not a Pain Management Specialist. Who does he think he is to change what 2 nationally recognized Specialists thought was right and worked for me 6 yrs? For no reason but his opinion.....
One visit with young know-it-all progressive doctor has ruined my medical regime of 6 yrs perhaps forever.. I still hurt before with the morphine 1x/day, but not nearly as much as I do now. I don't think it should be allowed but I believe it's what we'll see more and more.
I have to wonder if BigPharma has anything to do with this since so many meds replaced one. I never abused my medicine, asked for more even tho I was in pain, never ran out early, nothing to deserve such treatment after 6 yrs.. How unfair is that? Because of 1 green doctor brainwashed, I feel, by his medical school. He knew he was only seeing me once before he stopped accepting my insurance - seems almost malicious. I believe he should have just continued my meds for that month and let the next doctor, one I'd see on longer term, make those type decisions. Too late, he's got me all messed up. Very frustrating.

AND I came to him because my doctor of 11 yrs stopped accepting workman's comp, then saw this idiot once before he stopped accepting Comp - so I'll have to go to another doctor that accepts Comp. Mr. Green Doctor had nerve to mention I might be a 'doctor shopper' ? What? It's the doctors & insurance causing the uproar, not me.

BTW--
Xanax DOES help with pain - look it up, it helps relax muscles; It also helps decrease frequency of my migraine headaches, too. I can tell when I skip a dose that my muscular pain is worse.

As RN for 25 yrs I agree we've gone back 30 yrs in Pain Management. Used to watch cancer patients die in agony because doctors afraid to prescribe (or ignorant or uncaring). Then there was a big push to relieve patients' pain, no one should suffer (or we received a 'deficiency' on our inspection).
We were supposed to assess patient's pain at least every 4 hours and document what we did to relieve their pain. Now it has come full circle to allowing people to suffer, to using multiple drugs that often don't work. Being new, how do we know long term effects of combining all these new drugs? Since they don't work, I'm not taking them. I found a source for Xanax and just suffer the rest. It is so bad that if the rest of my life is to be like this, I'd rather go ahead and die. This is after 6 months off my narcotic pain med, Avinza.

They want to legalize marijuana but make it impossible to get even weak opioids for pain.
Bet celebrities and govt officials get whatever they want, whether they need it or not. We pay the price for people who want to overmedicate or get high.

I know of along--standing excellent mental health clinic where state came in and told them to switch ALL patients from Xanax to Klonopin, Ativan or the state would shut them down. My hometown is where it happened.

They've tried every benzo on me past 20 yrs and for whatever reason only Valium, Serax & Xanax work for my panic attacks. If I was still there, I'd be in big trouble, I guess.
What are non-medical people, untrained and not familiar with patients doing dictating what a psychiatrist trained for years does to patients?????

Did you know they want Medicare to stop treatments like cancer, Vit B shots to people 76+ yrs old? Those 76+ must pay themselves or do without. I thought govt was going to cut fraud and waste, make Medicare more efficient to save money??? Not kill people over 76 yrs old.

After being on Xanax for over ten years, I am now being taken off of it which will be a long process. My Doctor increased the dosage of celexa that I am taking and I am now reducing my intake successfully at .5 mg. The younger Doctors are seeing what long term Xanax use has done to people. It causes severe memory issues and I do suffer with memory issues, but I never knew that it was my long term benzo use causing it. I plan to follow the advice of my young Doctor knowing that I would rather salvage what memory I have left. I know that I am on a long journey to go off of this medicine but knowing that many Doctors are choosing not to prescribe it due to the damage they are finding in patients who have used it a long time and knowing that it is becoming hard to obtain and using it is an emotional battle with people calling me a drug addict because I take this medicine that was prescribed for me by a Psychiatrist over a decade ago and I have never abused it and take less than what was always prescribed, I have chosen to go off of this medicine and do hope that as my panic and anxiety and neuro symptoms increase as I reduce my dosage that the Doctor will back me and prescribe something that will help. My heart breaks for so many that have used this medicine and is now being told they can not obtain it without any recourse of actions to help them which is all of you and the many others who suffer silently and for some dangerously as they are forced to go off of this medicine. I basically, want to share that personally, the increase of celexa has helped with some of the withdrawal symptoms. I hope that all of you get the help that you should get since the DEA and the Doctors have decided this is a bad drug with to many dangerous and long lasting impacts.

As I said when I first joined here, I wonder how many people the Government will let die rather than take needed medication. I was just at my California Pharmacy yesterday, and although the rules have not changed like the other States, they told me people that try to get combo orders of more than one controlled substance have to drive 200 miles for their Oxy's due to my towns location hundreds of miles away from the next town. I only take Xanax and never want to fill another prescription in my life if possible. I have a moderate supply to get me through the bad times ahead. Good luck to you with stopping!!

How can Henry Help? It is a Felony to conduct any personal transactions of Xanax. I'm not sure who Henry want to have call him but I have plenty of medicine, and do not break the law. Couldn't stand the withdrawal in Jail!

I feel so bad for you and can also relate! I have a young Doctor fresh out of Med school who does not believe in pain treatment or the Xanax that I have used for years for a multitude of issues and like you mentioned, muscles and migraine headaches which are due to a neuro disease that I have had all of my life. One of our Nation top highly recognized Psychiatrist put me on this medicine and I am now weaning off of it (slowly) because I had a convulsion when my Doctor tried to do it to quickly! I am currently being treated for pain at a pain clinic, but I know a day is coming when that treatment will stop. (They have told me that it is coming) What you describe scares the heck out of me! I had gone through a major weaning process and found myself exactly where you are which was in bed not wanting to move much. I feel so bad for you and can relate so much to your story. People are being forced to suffer now and it isn't right. My heart goes out to you. I want to say, don't give up. I was about ready to give up and was asking my husband to shoot me when I had no pain control. If you look at prior post that I made, you will see where I live and what State I came from and not everyone coming from that State is an addict. I have medical, documented proof and my Doctor thinks that swimming is the cure all. Yes, swimming does help, but when one is in to much pain to get out of bed to even drive somewhere to go swimming is something that I am sure you can relate to. There are many of us suffering and you are not alone and found a good place to talk to others that understand your situation. I do hope that the Gov't is watching and reading our post. (They watch everything) How many of them that are "able" to work even have an idea of what it is like to be put down in bed unable to function and live due to pain? Not many! I bet some of the young Doctors fresh out of Med school with this "new training" has never spent a day having true pain. The people who are involved in making these decisions to make drugs harder to get for the people that abuse them have no idea what is happening to so many who need the medicine in order to even function. I am being weaned of my meds once again and I know what will come in the future as I will be lying in bed useless to anyone including myself. I am going to do something that I never thought I would ever have to do. I am actually going to advertise for a local Doctor who has a different outlook on medicine in comparison to my young Doctor who thinks swimming is the answer to everything! Thank-you for posting! I feel your emotional pain and can relate to the physical pain. I have a huge hole (degenerative disc) in my neck and without pain control, I can not hold my head up and wear a neck brace and sometimes wear a neck brace with meds on board. This is only one of many proven and documented issues. I have proof and they still don't want to treat me. I walk in the same shoes as you often and am shedding tears for a person that I do not know. So many are suffering needlessly thanks to the people who have abused the meds and the DEA/ (Gov't) if someone is affiliated with either one and reading this, then I would like to know why we hire high end renowned, Nationally recognized Doctors that prescribe these medicines and then if one has to move to another State, why are the laws so varied from State to State in the same Nation? I even have back up letters from these highly recognized Doctors stating that I have a sundry of issues which are all substantiated on medical findings. Why did I take all of these test that cost thousands of dollars only to turn around and not be treated just because I moved to another State where people don't know me. They knew me where I came from and helped me and in my new location that was exposed on old post, there is no help and it just sickens me. All people who suffer should be able to live as much of a quality life as possible. The suicide rate will be going through the roof if you do not allow those who suffer a source of pain control. My heart bleeds for so many. Do any of you have a heart for those who suffer? Please help us! This lady has real pain that puts her in bed not able to move. I do too! My brother does! So many are crying out for help and not finding it. Your helping the people who abuse drugs, but you are not helping the people who don't abuse and need their medicine in order to function. Please take a closer look at what your doing and I do hope that someone in our Gov't has a heart, reads this and will work on a program to benefit all. Why should the people in pain be allowed to die just because others have chosen to kill themselves with a slow death called abuse. Now everyone and both ends are dying. This is not justice. We as a people need to unite and put the word out that we are sick and need medicines that are unfortunatly, abused, but we are not the abusers! Don't make the sick people continue to suffer, please. I am looking for a doctor. I have not had a doctor in almost 2 years now. I have been without my pain med and my tranquilizers. I have almost given up finding a doctor. I am in Memphis. I just stumbled on your comment.
I am not a kid, I am a 63 year old grandmother. However I am just about to scream ..and give up. If you know of any local doctor or clinic here that provides care for people who need medication for pain/anxiety please let me know. BLess you.

To Whom It May Concern:
I have been taking various benzo's (Librium, Valium,
Xanax. Klonopin) all the way back to 1971. In the 1970's ...believe me it was easy for any M.D (family doctor) to prescribe the above. Things changed since the 1970's, I abstained for 10 years. By 1990, every "General Practitioner" I found from Phoenix to Charlotte NC, might give you a small quanity of Valium, or Xanax, but, every one referred me out to either a Psychiatrist, or a Psychologist or MSW, the latter two cannot write a script. Thus, I have been giving my money to Psychiatrists, ever since the year 1992, and I am now 63 years old. I have never been turned down for a minor tranquilizer, from a Psychiatrist, but, I do not always get what I want on the first visit. My advise, is do not be overly anxious for a target specific drug, let the Psychiatrist, try his choice of meds first, and, in my case, I always got what wanted, in terms of a benzo, in due time. Caution: Most will string you along for repeat business...sorry, that is just the way it is. I used to get 100 Valium 10 mg at a time, or 2mg Zannie bars x90 tabs with 4 refills, but, that has not happened since the mid-1990's. Finally, do your homework, before you have your first "Psychiatric intake" of usually 50 minutes, be very, very familiar, with the symptoms, of such things as "Panic Disorder, with, or without Agoraphobia, if Xanax is what you want. Forget the fancy jargon, it may raise a red flag, just be yourself.
If you are asked specifically why do you insist on a certain med, (like Xanax) sometimes a red flag is raised to the M.D, explain a older family member once had some and you tried it and it worked like a miracle,
family member, like a Mother, or sister. Good Luck......
If you are on a budget, go to the local library, and read up on books on medicines, such as the PDR, or go to the medical section, of the library, and read about the uses of the benzodiazepines. And don't forget, if asked if you drink, you do not drink!!!

You are ignorant to the process of a "benzo." They are physically and psychologically addictive over a period of time. Just an FYI... I am not being disrespectful by saying ignorant; I simply mean you don't know or understand the process. That is evident.
