I am looking for a doctor in the Lake Worth/West Palm Beach area who will prescribe Klonopin without giving me a hard time. I have been taking a small dose responsibly for 20 years and all the doctors I've been to since moving to Florida try to push me onto antidepressants which I can't tolerate due to side effects. Any help would be great. Thanks.

sick and tired and Dr Joey are full of s***. If you scroll through the thread sick and tired is constantly suckling up to Dr Joey and continually complains about addicts looking for drugs. 1. You have NO idea what other people are going through. If people are looking for doctors for specific needs (90% of the people in this thread. ..SO WHAT? It doesn't automatically make them addicts. ..and it is rude to imply such without proof. If you don't LIKE what purple are saying in this thread....START YOUR OWN THREAD.....the original post "I need help finding a doctor to prescribe me xanax".....that is what this discussion is going to be about.....deal with it or move on.

As for Dr Joey......why is it that you seem to post CONSTANTLY...just talking BS about how great you are and and your prescribing practices. ....GUESS WHAT...people in this thread don't give a rats ass about your MD and PhD. Again....the thread isn't for you to denigrate people that are trying to find a physician. For someone that is SO BUSY doing the right thing.....you sure seem to find A LOT of free time trolling this thread...we don't care and don't want to hear about it.

Dr Joey and sick and tired need to start their own thread so they can continue to stroke their massive egos someplace else.

I don't know why you guys are here seem to post so much.

I know because I started this thread....so I get a reminder every time you two post.

Your posts are enough to cause the rest of us to need a fu***** xanax.

@sick and tried: Can you imagine my reaction to a 'patient" who came in and asked for "blue footballs." I technically supervise our hospitals' Drug Tx and Ed Program, but I'm not on the staff. Only rarely do I intervene (a colleague's kid. for example, especially a colleague who is a good friend and I don't run roughshod over DTEC's protocols; I just share my own experience and provide the kid with more intensive therapy.) As for the blue football players, I'd send them to Detox. I take suggestions, but not from addict about the meds they "need".

I really thought this site was to share our personal experiences and in doing such maybe help someone or point them in the right direction. Do you all really think you are going to get a list of doctors who will prescribe what you think you need. If it has been a life long problem then #1 Take some action you are responsible for you !!! If you do manage to get someone to give you the name of a DR, what are you gonna say. Oh by the way Doc I got your name off a site that has countless people that are getting their drug of choice so I will take some Valium and maybe some oxys and yeah and can you throw in some xanax too. I have all the empathy in the world for addicts and people who suffer anxiety issues and I am not judging you, But get a grip. Get a work up from a good shrink or an good family practitioner get some documentation and go from there. The DEA is much too tough today. With the technology that is out there all pharmacies are connected and the doctor's are closely monitored so get your process started and good luck to you.

At the risk of sounding elitist, a proper Ddx and Tx plan should be determined by a Board-certified psychiatrist. You make it sound as if I've never treated PAD or GAD...and that's wrong. I just follow the "reasonable and customary criteria" for prescribing and I'm not locked into writing for benzos. You don't want to waste to much time? Tough. You'll get over it.

Some people actually need it. People who have panic attacks daily and self sabotage. I never understood why I could never bring myself to do the most simple things. Like simply checking my e mail because even that can be soo stressful that you just say f*** it and it screws people and yourself over. It's hell. I have to work myself up just to look through my personal e-mail yet alone my work e-mail. It's not like I want to be like this. I've lost jobs over it. I barely get any sleep. It cripples me in pretty much every way imaginable. Some people want it just to feel high and have an excuse for it but some people really do need it and doctors are so cautious these days. Ton of doctors would decide not to give it to someone who clearly needs it out of fear. I'm looking for a doctor too just to avoid wasting time. I know I need it to function. I've been prescribed before when I was 17 because I needed it to get through every day (without doctor shopping or anything) but I had to see my doctor weekly for refills and I work full time. It's next to impossible to take off or leave early once every week so I got off it knowing I needed it and I struggle like hell every single day. If anyone knows a doctor in northern VA (about 40 minutes away from Washington DC) Please let me know.

"All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing" - Edmund Burke. People such as you and I take the evils of intractable pain, psychosis, abuse and addiction, and help others, NOT to "go softly into that good night." While I don't judge my patients, I do believe that Addiction, per se, is Evil, an evil that we can fight with the tools God gave us, what we learned in school and in the school of life. This is a fight to life and quality of life and, speaking of Evil, some of my alleged "colleagues" who have sold their prescription pads to the highest bidder, are as just as complicit as any "corner boy" dealer. Wanna know why I make complaints to the Office of Professional Conduct regarding "Dr. Feelgoods"? Because it's the right thing to do. Happy Thanksgiving...

OMG DR. Joey I can't express just how much this little tete a tete has meant to me and to hear the loss of a dear friend. Unfortunate and listen to all you addicts out there. This disease robs people dear to us, daily. My heart sighs at the thought, I never told you but I started out in social service field as an aids outreach worker, yep back when they wouldn't give AZT to pregnant women in jails. Well I took to the streets with a crew and we passed out condoms in 1994 maybe. Anyway not too long ago a local girl of the evening came up to me and said you saved my life. Puzzled I asked how and she said that group you ran in jail made me realize. Now we have a generation dabbling into the hell. I lost many a friend. I was called obscenities but I was on a mission. Your loss is my loss, we are all human beings. Some of us draw the short straw. I read and reread your post. My loving vibes and prayers are thrown your way, peace.

S & T: Many thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. When I think of those who lost the good fight, I think of one of my best friends. AA/NA wasn't for me and now I have the research to back my gut feelings. But it seemed to work really well for my pal, Bob. We went to junior high and high school together. I always see him when visiting my parents. I did a work-up every 6-8 months, but told him any meds and to come from his Internist or shrink. Long-distance it's easy to accept old friends at their word, especially when staying clean and sober is what you want from them. My psychiatric training clearly took a holiday. About five years ago, one of my Mom's best friends came over for Xmas Eve Open House. After greetings, she asked, "Have you heard Billy D. was found dead with three or four of his kids at home. (I think the meds call that age group Toddlers and Pre-Kindergarten). I became an MD again in flash; not only an MD, but one Boarded in Forensic Psychiatry.

"What was the COD?" (Then I explained COD = Cause of Death). She told me drug and alcohol combined. This had happened a couple of weeks prior. Billy moved to upstate New York out of touch with old friends, Recovery comrades [I'm not knocking AA/NA, etc.,when they work] and family. I remembered going to his 6th graders school to explain ADD/ADHD and certifying that my specialty in Child and Adolescent makes me an authority on ADD/ADHD and that principal was going to "shut the f*** up" and intent me about the Hx, DDx, course of the illness, etc., and the kid was protected by the Americans With Disabilities Act. What he WASN'T going to do was take punitive action unless he wanted to see me not nearly so friendly as an Expert Witness in Family Court.

He said, "And YOU'RE a psychiatrist?"

"Sure am and a damned good one according to all reliable sources. You wanna see just HOW good, take one more step outside the boundaries of good administrative practice and you're in violation of Federal Law. The FBI enforces federal law and I've worked with them many times and — trust me — you DON'T want to meet them."

This kid was getting screwed because of his family situation. Kids are entitled to a clean slate. I remember how grateful Billy and his wife were.

I decided I needed to learn from this and I myself now do more extensive "family mental health evaluations" and so do my Residents.

Thanks Dr. Joey you are my ideal Doctor. I realize that many of the people on this site are desperate. But the only official one that has MD after their name is you. I have gotten a lot out of your posts, I also unfortunately have a lot of experience with anxiety issues. This site was not created for a doctor shopping info site. We come here to share experience strengths and solutions. I have walked more than a mile in most of these folks shoes. And my posts are always the same. Find a GOOD Doctor and be honest with him, Otherwise allow the diseases to run your life. I chose to accept and deal with the disease, Diet stay away from coffee or caffeinated beverages, Exercise, take a walk, Eat, your body needs fuel. Try yoga and deep breathing. Whatever and take it day by day, And with the cold weather coming be grateful to have a warm home, and lastly come to terms with whatever ails you and fight it. God Bless us all and remember those we have lost to the good fight! peace

Mack from GA I am a vet and really have anxiety. My old va doctor gave me 2mg alprazolam which really helped. I'm aware of addiction risk but to me it's worth it. I've ran out of Walmart for no reason just terrified. Now they changed my doctor and he canceled my prescription. I have to find a doc in GA my life is miserable. Please help.

@sick and tired: Thanks for your endorsement. I prescribe — and take — benzos. I don't just do a one-size (Xanax) fits all tx plan. That's not good medicine; it's borderline malpractice. I have GAD and PAD. When I told my shrink, I was sure I had GAD, he prescribed Xanax; as time progressed, we realized I had PAD "minus one" — I've never had the strong feeling that if I didn't get out of where was, I would die or be killed. Just about all of my PAD patients had the full compliment of symptoms listed in the DSM. Meanwhile, my shrink and I decided that it was time to use the DOC for PAD — Klonopin. It works very well. S & T is right — you do not TELL your doctor what he is to prescribe, even though you certainly can tell a new doc what you've been on a for what. If you wanna write or own scripts go to medical school and take the licensing Boards. I may decide that you don't needXanax, but another med. That's why I have an MD after my name. This sense of entitlement is unbelievable. S&T is write that doctor who write for bushels of Xanax are being looked at by the DEA, your state Controlled Substance Bureau or both. Generally, S&T's statements are spot on. There are occasional exceptions, such as a short-term script following a death in the family, but basically Xanax is officially indicated for PAD and I'm not sure if GAD if officially listed, but we do prescribe it for that disorder as well.

Wow I have never seen so many people trying to find a doctor for xanax. As Dr. Joey says xanax is a short acting drug that is usually only prescribed when you have DOCUMENTED history of PTSD or GAD if you don't know what they stand for you don't need xanax. If you have no Family Practitioner get one, I feel like I am repeating a former post. If you are experiencing panic attacks on a regular basis.Which means your heart is racing you feel like an elephant is on your chest then go to an ER. Let them do a work up on you and if they feel you are in need of a drug they will give it to you, If you are addicted to opiates and you have not seen treatment chances are you may or may not be abusing prescription drugs. Get into treatment and beat one drug at a time. The link AJ posted is great but if you or I can find a Doctor who prescribes the most xanax prescriptions I bet the DEA has him on a watch list. So get a game plan be honest. Remember when Mom said the best policy is honesty, well Mom was right the same as make sure you change your underwear every day ya never know whats gonna happen. I feel for you and by no means have the answer to the Big debate over benzo's I just know from personal experience I have a great Doctor who I am honest with and he prescribes me what I need, I have been around the block a time or two and this is what has worked for me. if you have no insurance buy some. If you can not afford them you may qualify for medicaid. If you do have insurance call them and ask for a list of doctors in your area. Medical records are important they are what your doctor needs to prescribe correctly and your lifeline to good health no matter what your problem is. Good luck to all and read DR. Joeys posts.
