N 596 White Diamond Shape Tablet

I was prescribed Doxazosin to lower my blood pressure, but it increased sharplly, so thinking the pharmacy assistants had mistakingly put the wrong pills in the bottle, I asked the pharmacist to lcheck the pills. He refused, saying that whatever the label said that was what is inside.

This is Doxazosin 4mgs, generic for Cardura.

However, there are some facts about generic drugs that most people are not aware of and this might be contributing to your problem.

Generics drugs, under US a US law called the Hatch-Watchman Act, are allowed to differ in the amount of the active ingredient, from their name brand counterparts by as much as PLUS OR MINUS 20%.

The FDA says this is an allowable, therapeutic difference, however, for some people it does create problems. If the previous generic you were taking was controlling your blood pressure and this time your pharmacy gave you one made by a different company, then you may no longer be getting enough of the medication to control your blood pressure.

In addition, generic drugs DO NOT necessarily have to contain the EXACT SAME active ingredient as the name brands or as other generics, as long as they prove the active substance is 'bio-equivelent' and works in the body in the same way.

The only thing I can suggest is speaking to your doctor about the problem, it may be necessary to change your medication or dosage. The next time you get a refill, ask the pharmacy what manufacturer's pills they are providing, before you get it filled.

I would change pharmacies if possible. This attitude is inexcusable.
