Could you please tell me if 4mg Dilaudid is anywhere near close to being the same medication as Tylenol #3?? I'm severely allergic to Codeine & want to make sure I'm not in danger of having an anaphylactic reaction if I take the Dilaudid. Please help!!

This tablet is manufactured by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals and they list it as containing 2mgs of Hydromorphone, which is a generic for Dilaudid. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.

It is much stronger than Codeine. While it is a different medication, that does not mean that someone might not also discover they are allergic to it. Usually, if you are allergic to one medication, you may find there are others you are also allergic to.
