Ms Contin With Added Breakthrough Med

Updated

Hi all...I was recently referred by my PCP to a PDoc and had my 1st appr. 2 days ago. I have questions regarding the "appropriate" and "inappropriate" quid pro quo between my new physician and my continued chronic pain management. I've been a A LOT of different pain meds, as I'm sure most of us have, but most recently switched from Norco 10/325 x 12day to MS Contin 15mg SR 2x/day along with Norco 10's 8x/day. Question: My next appt. isn't for 27 days and I'm receiving NO relief from the Morphine whatsoever. So, should I make a "pain log" until next appt. and address the effectiveness (or lack thereof) then, or send the Dr. a message via his online patient portal now?

Hi Bothgop,

Sorry to hear that the morphine hasn't been working for you. I do think it would be wise to put together some sort of pain log to help your doctor understand how much of an effect this drug has on your pain, relative to your previous set of medications. This may be a good thing to do over the course of those 3-4 weeks before your next appt.

Seeing him in person as opposed to an online message will probably also have an impact on how well he reads your body language and other signs showing that you truly need a different medication other than what he originally prescribed you.

You can learn more about this drug on the page for Morphine Details

I hope this helps!

Hey David,

I appreciate your response. I also agree with your notion of resisting the urge to send an electronic message, as it's much less personal and would likely lend the wrong message. I'm in a significant amount of pain and always exercise my due diligence when trying something new; especially when it relates to my overall well-being. I've taken other pain meds in the past (not consistently), and was fairly surprised by the doc's choice to utilize such a low dose and widely prescribed med at first. I understand the reasoning behind the dosage, but after speaking to him in "vague detail", I'm positive there's something more powerful and specific to treat my pain. I have great tolerance and had all correspondence from my PCP as a resource and simply feel my very REAL pain wasn't taken seriously enough...

Take care...

P.S. - I have another posting on here that wasn't sure went through. Perhaps it'll provide some greater insight as to where I've been and coming from. See below:
