Micardis 20 Mg.tab

Updated

Hi,i was taking Metroprolol(20 mg.)for over 13 years and 3 specialists wanted me to switch to Nifidipine(30 mg.) because of Raynauds.I immidately experienced higher blood pressure and increased pulse rate and have had these higher numbers for about a month. My dr.also increased Lisinopril(20 mg.) to 25 mg.The increase also made my nagging cough worse, keping me awake many nites. My dr.has now replaced Lisinopril with Micardis(20 mg.)My dr.does not seem overly concerned about my incresed BP&pulse rate;yesterday my numbers were 138/87,101.I am 63,female,weigh 135 lbs,5'5",have no family history of heart disease.I am not as active as ii have been in past years because i have osteoarthritis in my shoulders, neck, back, hips, knees and feet and i was taken off of all pain meds/muscle relaxants. Am i overly concerned because of my higher numbers?i have seen a cardioologist, worn a Holter monitor,EKG with no issues seen. Please advise if you have any suggestions,my anxiety level is extreme on some days.

Hello, Shar! How are you doing? I'm sorry that you're so anxious!

138/87 with a heart rate of 101 are not numbers that would alarm your PCP or cardiologist, especially if all the other tests, such as the monitor and EKG, came back normal.

Normal blood pressure range is 120/80, so the reading you've listed is usually only considered a slight elevation and most doctors won't even treat at those levels. Normal heart rate for an adult is 60 to 120 beats a minute, so you are still well within that range.

I am also speaking from personal experience here, because I am a hypertensive heart patient. :-)

Please relax and just keep an eye on your levels. If they continue to raise, then something would need to be done.

But in the meantime, the more you worry about it, the more elevated they are going to be.

Are there any other questions or concerns?
