Jack,my doctor has explained some of the common issues you had with no pain relief. Hew explained that for subs to work with chronic pain you have to wean off the opiates for a while before starting subs.

I take 3 of the 8 mg suboxone a day, AND lyrics, AND baclofen. I am still in a lot of pain. My doctor won't give me narcotics (oxy, etc.) because I am only 38 and taking that stuff for many years can ruin your liver I guess. It sucks. I hate being in pain. The doctor also said that the only way I will ever be pain free is if they put me in a coma. :(

Not true at all. I really wish people would refer to official medical sites for important info like this. Subutex is commonly prescribed for pain.

I have gone over 24 hours without taking any opiate- horrible w/d's in full effect. Not to make excuses, but being a single dad-time is not a luxury. I took half a sub and that eased the wd's, but again, nothing for the pain. I'm also dealing with three areas of pain: knees, back and neck-so I never get relief for all three. After talking with my doctor he made it pretty cut and dried-knee replacement and spinal fusion or suffer. I'm only 38 and he said I was too young for either surgery. So, looking for second and third opinions because this is not living and not how I want my daughter to be raised. I'm sorry if anything I said misled anyone, it's just my opinion and personal experience. Appreciate the replies and honesty from you guys.

Placebo's have no affect on me. I have chronic back pain and I started using these strips with the mind-set that they were crap and wouldn't work. Surprisingly they did (as long as I dont over do it) and last a hell of a lot longer than narcotic pain meds. At least to me they help. Thanks for all the useful information on here!

I forgot to add that I'm not going through withdrawal so my results are probably different than someone who has chronic pain along with withdrawal.

I do not no about Drs. prescribing Suboxone for pain relief But I do know why it is
given to ppl who are addicted to Opiates. Beacuse it WORKS!!! I did not think
I would ever be able to get myself clean and free from the Hell Of Opiate addiction. After rehab more than once I was given Suboxone from a Dr. You must believe me.
It does what I am telling you it does, I have been Clean for almost three years,
And I am in control of my life once again, Thank My God
You can get the help that you need if you want it, sometimes we all need a little
advice on where and how you can find it and I am More than happy to pass this information on to anyone that needs help Like I did.
Pleae ask for help and ask a Dr. about this Drug. It saved Me.

The problem with suboxone is after a few years the pain relief stops to works. It changes your personality. I recently was in the hospital and needed a medical proceedure and they didn't even know what it was. I told them to call my Dr but they didn't. They dosed me 3 times with fentanyl and Versid and couldn't believe I was still awake and talking to them. I could have drove. Since there was no anethestiologist available I basically went through having an IVC filter inserted in my juggular vien with no pain relief. I was only on 8 mgs a day and I have a lawyer and suing to boot! Suboxone is great but it is not forever and it is not a pain killer, it's a pain killer blocker. I guess everyone is affected differently but my doc gave 24mgs to take after my sugery for pain and no way. Last time I got off subs it took me over year to go from 8 to zero. Plus I get more relief from tylenol.

Your doc is an idiot. No disrespect. If you need long term pain management methadone is the best option. It keeps you from getting addicted to chasing Vicoden and Oxys and has real MU receptor binding that WILL block your pain with out a partial antagonist. 1/2 these doctors got their head up their rear ends when it comes to suboxone. Suboxone is for junkies to get their lives together and then should be discontined once you are stable which could be a few years like in my case.

Suboxone is not doing nothing for your pain! It's just keeping you from asking for Vicoden or Oxys or Dilaudid. If you are not an addict and can take full agonist opiod pain meds as prescribed there is no reason to be on Suboxone. I've been on it 2x times. Once for 3 years then 5 years off then I had a slip and back on for almost 2 years now. The stuff changes my personality. People tell me I'm not the same. I am trying to wean but it's a nightmare. No easier than Methadone. I was down to 1/8mg every other day and when I stopped I didn't sleep for 2 weeks and had zero energy. Doctors give it out like candy because you can't abuse it. Just my .02

I can say your either a uneducated or a simple f*** running his mouth about s*** you've never experienced. Subs are the only meds that actually relieve pain in my back and allow me to live and function. Also I never had to raise dosage at all after taking 2mg a day for 9 months.

I'm an Addiction doc as a previous Suboxone patient. The active opiate is buprenorphine, a mixed agonist/antagonist with high affinity at opioid receptors but with lower intrinsic activity. Therefore it binds very strongly to receptors but doesn't produce the same "kick" as full agonists. Regardless of using Suboxone, Subutex, methadone etc etc the truth remains...there is a price to pay for addiction and anyone expecting to find the "no pain" method ought to give it up. You can spread out the pain or deal with it more acutely but when taking this drug for addiction you'll just have to deal with some withdrawal at some point. As an analgesic it is very effective but as a partial agonist it will not have the potency as full agonist meds. It has a slightly lower dependence risk and easier withdrawal than a full agonist like methadone. I currently work in a clinic which uses methadone and have to say that buprenorphine is a better choice for most, but nt all people. And I agree with the post about spouting off ignorance here. There is no place for that when you are dealing with pain such as requiring opiates or addiction requiring formal treatment.

Yeah, this James Mr. Know it all doesn't know crap. He's not a doctor! I take suboxone for PAIN. I am not an addict. I am a young woman with many health issues and long term use of things like methadone can cause liver damage. I am only 38 and will have to take pain medication for the rest of my life. I would prefer to not have organ damage on top of everything else I am dealing with.

The less spit, the less you swallow of the medication, the more you get into your bloodstream? You. <~~~~~ should think about it....

If all else fails, go to a Suboxone doctor and say you're an addict.

First off, I truely hope you find the right medications to help with your pain. I went through the very same thing with Workers Comp. after I was assaulted by an inmate here in Pennsylvania. I was working as a state Correctional Officer, when I shattered my wrist. 2 years after reconstruction surgery, If I told you I didn't like all the pain meds, I would be lying. I loved them, the stronger the better, but like you, I wasn't able to function well in everyday activities like grandkids, driving, etc...I begged my Doctor for Suboxone to get off the Narcotics but still help with the pain and like a miracle from God, the drug worked wonders. I had some slight side effects for the first few days, but nothing like high doses of Narcotics (falling asleep, nausea, vomiting, etc.) If you ask your provider, they should be able to help you. Please continue to ask and do research. Like any other medicine there are draw-backs, but it beats looking for the next higher dose of something you may never get off of. Good luck to you and God Bless. It'll work out =))
