Maximum Dose Of Suboxone/subutex & Chronic Pain (Page 17)
UpdatedI am now fully convinced that all of you that say Subs is an effective pain killer are beyond delusional. I guess that not one of you have come to terms with you addiction and will continue making yourself believe and everyone around you that you are sober and in recovery. I am in moderate to severe pain everyday but I finally quit trying to convince myself that Subs helped my pain. Good luck to all of you junkies!!
Yeah, its call trading one addiction for another. Keep convincing yourself that it helps your pain and you start to believe it.
NOMORENARCS: It is interesting to hear a former addict judge a whole group of people, especially pain patients. Let me guess: You got sober through NA/AA? I know FOR A FACT that it is very effective for pain. And the fact that it really is difficult to get truly "high" on Bupe, they way you can off of traditional pain killers, actually makes it a great option. Just because it doesn't work FOR YOU for pain, doesn't make those who do have success with it "delusional". So are you here just to insult people with problems? Now that you are clean, you get to sit up on Judgmental Mountain and look down at all the poor "junkies"? I guess you missed that day at rehab about HUMILITY. Some of us will have to be on an ORT for LIFE. And that is ok. We will go ahead and do what is best for us, what our doctors feel is best for us, and you can take your judgment and shove it wherever you need to. And the ceiling for Subutex/Suboxone is actually 32mgs. Taking more than 16 mgs will not make you "feel worse". And maybe you could go research the difference between "addiction", "compulsion", "physical dependence", etc. since you have that all screwed up too. Holy crap, man....just a WEALTH of egomania and bad information, aren't ya? Why are you on here, exactly?
JaMart: Even though we all KNOW FOR A FACT that it is effective for pain relief, there always has to be one (NOMORENARCS) who thinks he knows BETTER. And the worst kind of hypocrite too; an addict in recovery, sitting in judgment of other addicts. Pretty high on the "loser" scale.
Hey blue Cross does pay for the medicine. U gota have a prior authorization but if I was you I'd look into other insurances. Are u on disability?

I feel as an experienced Subutex/suboxone survivor, that way too many people overuse these opioid agonists/antagonist? I'm a recovering opiate addict and was only ever on "Bupe" at a level of up to 10 MG's at the most, despite long term opiate use at high doses, the Suboxone managed to completely block my urges and withdrawal symptoms without exceeding 10 MG's...most of this 3-4 yr period I was only on 6 then 4 MG's for 3 of those yrs....I know a lot of people on ridiculously high doses 24-32+ MG's, when previously they were hardly using opiates on a daily basis. I feel doctors are over prescribing this drug at what damage and cost to the persons health? I feel it should be determined by U/A and how much opiate is in the system of the patient....I suffered with confusion (mildly though) very heavy sweating even during winter coolness, I retained fluid and barely voided my bladder during this time....I became so obese that I felt I would have preferred being normal weight and still using? Stupid thoughts I know but carrying 15-20 KGS every other day is horrific, esp when you still eat the same as before but no loss of weight....this depressed me to distraction, not for me I said.....I jumped off 4 MG's and was in withdrawal for a month or so before it subsided, this was the longest month I'd ever endured!!! Not long after this I weakened and began taking opiates again....now I'm back on methadone (biodone) and am in control of my urges and maintaining a healthy weight....you can do the math??...
You are wrong FDA did not approve suboxone for pain only for opiate dependence they are off- label prescribing suboxone for pain!
I actually have some questions... Can i ask them here ?
RACHEL: Hello Rachel. What is it that you want to ask?
I'm on 2 8mg strips a day how do I tell my Dr it's not working anymore?
TERESA: What do you mean by "it's not working.." Is it not keeping the withdrawals away anymore, or ??? Need more specifics.
I am on (2) 2mg of subx a day... And i have hep C is the subx aggravating the Hep C or my liver...also I have been completely drug free since 1/8/14 and have given my life to Christ, what is a safe way to come completely off the subx ? I once was on methdn and then switched to subx. I have not been off of everything since the start of my recovery.
Rachel,
CONGRATS on your recovery .YES suboxne can definitely alter hepatitic function. Not as profoundly as methadone or other pharmaceuticals but still can effect your levels. You've invested your time and hard work and spirituality is a huge factor in the support you'll need getting off the suboxne and being completely drug free. Please see a professional and be weened off your dose medically. You've come too far to risk relapse by withdrawing from subs by advice alone. In recovery we all learn " one is too many, but a thousand never enough" best of luck, God speed.....Kenie
When I first went on Suboxone I was prescribed 32 mg per day or four 8 mg strips I never got sick. you're taking 12 mg so if you're having symptoms of vomiting nausea and stuff like that and constipation call your doctor. Suboxone is not like a typical full agonist narcotic in that the more you take makes you feel pain less. there's a ceiling to it after which it begins to work against itself. My experience has been that the less you take the more you feel it. I hope that helps.
How hard will it be to come off completely and how long of a time span is realistic and safe ? Is my Recovery honored even tho I'm taking subxn?
No. It shouldn't insult your liver. I went on it, with Hep C and stage 3 fibrosis and had no problems. however I am not a physician and your prescribing physician can tell you what you're at risk for.
If you are out of your xanax, you will have seizures in about 4 days...I'm sorry, but I have to be truthful with you. If you can't find some Klonopin, which lasts about 7 days before you start feeling a seizure coming on, or a anti-seizure of any kind... Ativan, Lamictal, even Valium will get you by. Just ask CVS and they will let you know if it will keep you from seizing. Be careful because I've had 4-5 seizures due to taking Xanax and running out early. It happens every time so I switched to Klonopin's, because they remain in your system several days longer, and I've never had a seizure when I have ran out 7-10 days early.
Works wonderfully for my chronic pain. Severe scoliosis, spinal stenosis, etc. Been taking it for years
32mg is the max u can take of suboxone but for pain subutex is much better.
RACHEL: Four milligrams of Suboxone a day is a pretty low dose, so I wouldn't worry too much about your liver with that small dose. Better that you are on the Subs, instead of taking opioid pills, that are worse for your liver than the Subs. Especially if you take things like Vicodin, which has Tylenol in it. Tylenol (Acetaminophen) is EXTREMELY hard on the liver. Be glad you are only on 4mgs a day. That is about as low a dose as you can get, and shouldn't be horribly hard to detox from. Your Suboxone doc should help you with this.
As far as your recovery "being honored" while on Subs, that depends on who is doing the "honoring". If we are talking N/A, they do not consider an addict to be truly "clean" if they are on Methadone or Suboxone. You can attend the meetings, sit and listen, but can not participate, can't get your "chips" for being clean, etc. This is why I do NOT recommend N/A for opioid addicts. Opioid addiction is VERY different than most other addictions. We change our brain chemistry with all these artificial endorphines being "forced" into our receptors, and many of us may need ORTs (opioid replacement therapies) for the rest of our lives. Having an agency dedicated to recovery telling opioid addicts that they are "still dirty" because of using ORTs does more harm then good. The recidivism rate for opioid addiction is over 80%, so ORTs are VERY necessary for many of us, and one should not be penalized for doing what they must to stay off of their drug of choice. Look into Life Ring; they are an alternative to N/A and they DO NOT JUDGE the addicts for being on Methadone/Subs. Good luck.
