Well gals and guys, I'm a true alcoholic but can take pain medication without a problem. The reason I say that is because I told my dr. that and he put me on suboxone for the pain with Cervical Spondylosis and Lumbar Spondylitis since 1985 and osteoarthritis needing a replacement knee. I was also able to take myself off of it for 6 months and do the shots (useless) but all I could do was lay in bed all day so I decided to get back on the meds. But the problem I see since I was prescribed 24 mg. per day what would happen if I was in a real bad accident with all that Naloxone. I know it's mainly to deter IV administration but I'm sure somehow the body is absorbing it. Then you are dealing with an antagonist in the emergency room. So, I asked the doctor to put me back on Morphine. It doesn't work as well because he's got me on too low of a dose but that's ok. I'll just deal with most of the pain because when I need something strong, I won't be tapped out on it.

miss understood: that's awesome that essential oils work for you. I actually use them for my migraines and they do work about half of the time. I have peppermint oil and a migraine blend, both in roll-on bottles, that i roll onto my forehead and the back of my neck when i feel a migraine coming on. and i use lavender oil for relaxation. I also have a diffuser.

ETECH: actually, the naloxone in the subs has a pretty short half-life. the buprenorphine itself is an antagonist, so that would be the thing that would throws you into precipitated withdrawals. BUT, in the example you cited, if you were in an accident and had to be given painkillers, you would be ok. you have it backwards. its taking subutex/suboxone AFTER taking full agonist opiates that is the problem. if they gave you painkillers in the hospital AFTER taking bupe, you would be fine. the painkillers might not work very well, but that wouldnt throw you into precip. w/ds. if you take suboxone too soon AFTER taking opioids, thats when you get into trouble.

I am on suboxone for pain and anyone saying that doctors have found a way to get people like me off pain pills is nuts. I have read many stories if people with major pain and this does work on pain. Thinking suboxone is only for addiction needs to read more on this medication. It may have started out to assist with addiction just like viagra started out as heart medicine and then they realized it also had other effects. This medication defiantly does help with pain . I take it for pain and have a sister who broke her back in a cat accident and had rods in her back then removed manages with subs for her pain. No they don't take away all the pain as pain pills do but yes enough to manage the pain and live a normal life. They are opoids so yes they do assist with pain and more and more doctors are giving these to chronic pain patients rather then pain pills or people like me who have pain and sick of being in pain and on pain pills so do research

Suboxone is the saving grace for me to get off of the constant grind of dependence of pain meds. You must seek different opinions. These doctors don't have the experience of actually having experience the pain. Many are only informed by the pharmaceutical sales reps that compete for sales.

I also was on 8 mg dilaudad 5 times a day and was so messed up, even led to an opioid addiction because I kept running out. Fortunately my doc realized I had a problem and Suboxone definitely gave me back my life, practically overnight! I so agree with you.

That's not true I've always been told that it didn't work on pain. That's just an addicts excuse because they prefer to get wasted. I have severe pain and I've also taken, percocet, tabs, morphine, methadone and none of them worked as good on pain as subutext. And all of them are said to work on pain, yet dont. They will intoxicate you and if you think it ain't working because your not having that good feeling than you need to go to rehab and then go take a psychology class or 3.

Hey people ... I'm on about 150mg of morphine a day plus codeine and snything opiate I can take . My tolerance is around 400-500mg a day . I'm sick off chasing and want to try subtext but drug advisor said its rubbish for pain. So catch 22 I'm spending almost every penny trying to stay well and out of w/d I think of nothing else all day. What amount of subtext will help me.

WOODYPONYBOY: There is really no way for any of us on this site to tell you what dose of Suboxone is going to be effective for you. That depends on a lot of different factors. But I would definitely suggest you go see a Suboxone specialist and get off of that merry-go-round you are on. It can change your life. And even if you don't have insurance, you will be spending less money than you are on all those opiates. Go on the link I pasted below and put your zip code in. You will get a list of the Suboxone doctors in your area. Good luck.

I was on Subutex for 2 years and had previously been on other opiates for the past 16 for severe back problems. I will honestly tell you it did not help with my pain after 6 months. That may just be me. But now that I have been off at 6 months I can honestly say it made me manic it kept me up for days and I hate that. On top of that it gave me seizures. It did not allow me to go into REM sleep. It ruined my libido and the worst part was it made me extremely aggressive and mean. I fought with my husband every single night and up until that point we'd only had two arguments in 16 years. I don't know if anybody else have those issues. I know that for me I did. So if you are on Subutex and your kind of maniacally energetic and running around doing all this stuff that you couldn't do before, you are getting wasted. That's not what Subutex is 4. It is supposed to be for opiate withdrawals and getting off opiates and it is also supposed to be for pain. Anything that makes you feel happy or elevated and more manic than you usually are is a bad thing. On the other hand if you're not having those The side effects and it works for you then fine. But all opiates That people in different ways. Oh and it had another weird side effect... I lost 120 pounds in less than a year on it. I joke with my daughter and I tell her where I've gained 10 pounds back maybe I should just go back on it for another year and lose another 40. If she says... Mom I will kill you. You know that it is bad for you personally and it should not be used in that case either. So keep a diary and keep a journal and make sure that the Subutex is working the way it should and it's not making you feel high, not giving you seizures, not making you lose weight, etcetera. All opiates have their own little quirks and everybody is different.

My clinic won't let me go past 18mg even though the max is 24mg. I'm worried with my tolerance to it I'll suffer. I refuse to be put back on methadone. It didn't work for me. I was lagging and angry. My kids said I was mean and are so happy im on subutext. Idk what to do.

AWAKENED: Actually, the 'ceiling' with bupe is 32mgs. You are on 18mgs; is it working? Are you sick? If you are still having withdrawal symptoms, your doctor should give you more. I have no idea why a doctor would refuse to put you on a higher dose. If a person is still experiencing withdrawal, that is a recipe for relapse, and that is the thing they DON'T want.

That's what I thought. It's the methadone clinic I go to. Seems that they would realize I wasn't trying to get messed up because when I was on methadone they started me at 30mg and I stayed on 30mg til I switched to subutext. Seems they would realize that it's because I seem to have a tolerance to it but I like it better.

AWAKENED: It's not a straight up, even equation, but usually whatever dose of methadone you take, you would take half that in Subutex. So if you were on only 30mgs of methadone, you should be able to take 16mgs of Subs and be ok. It sounds like it is not working out that way for you, though. I also find it interesting that the methadone clinics are usually PUSHING for you to go up on your dose. I also didn't realize there were clinics that do methadone and Subutex both.

You are wrong suboxone is great for pain you need to study more about the main ingredient of suboxone ! Burtrans is the same drug just no blocker . I have taken suboxone for pain for the last 3 years and I would never take OxyContin or morphine if I can have suboxone and feel normal and out of pain !

I don't think ' respectively " u don't know what u r promoting, I've been on sub box, 8mg 3td for over two years thinking that it might b an alternative to opiates, but let me say , my life now is 2 stage, on the couch or at the dr. The pain is so severe I cannot function at all. Yea I'm off opiates' yea' . now I'm housebound. Also if I tell the dr my debilitating state he seems unconcerned. I've found if u start subooxone therapy, all drs will instantly lable u an addict, and treat u as such, IE , dismiss anything u try to tell them. I myself was in an industrial accident and took high doses of all types of opiates and they worked. I talked to my dr about subooxone, and it sounded great, worst mistake ever. Now I'm an invalid, have frequent surgury, and intolerable pain is now my life. And since I have been prescribed subooxone, no dr will treat me. Im labled and trapped now w no relief in sight. Do not!!! Use subooxone to treat chronic pain. It will leave u w 0 options and will lable u as a addict, even if like me, u were just looking for a better pain treatment option. Such a sad crisis we are in.

JAMES: Don't worry; if this is the same "Mary" person from another comment, she posts everything as if it is gospel, instead of just saying "in my opinion". And if you don't agree with her "gospel", she tells you something condescending like "do your homework"... just blow her off. Everyone's experiences on here are different, and just because something works well for one, doesn't mean it will work for all. PEACE.
