Maker Of Levorphanol

Does anyone make levorphanol now? Our pharmacy said it is not available. It is a major ingredient in my pain cocktail.

Hello, Bernadette! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having.

I'm not sure if it is permanently or temporarily off the market, but this does happen commonly when a medication isn't frequently used anymore, it's just not economically feasible for most companies to keep manufacturing it.

However, you may want to speak to your doctor about trying Tapentadol in it's place, it is a very similar medication that is more readily available.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Does anyone else have any suggestions that may help?

Levorphanol is available from both Roxane and Sentnyl (manufacturers). Pharmacists may not know this. It took my pharmacy awhile to get it, but it is definitely available. It should be used more often. Has a similar profile as methadone, in terms of being a long acting opioid with NMDA antagonist properties, without many of the risks associated with methadone. Hi, FYI, Levorphanol isn't quite like tapentadol as its' a much stronger analgesic and also has some fairly potent NMDA-antagonist properties which seem to help relieve neuropathic pain and decrease tolerance issues...
