Lyrica Lawsuit (Page 6)

Updated

Does anyone know if there is an ongoing lawsuit against the company who puts out Lyrica? I am a mess from it. Do we have a leg to stand on when it comes to the side effects they found out from people like us? I am a long termer. I have been taking 900 mg since 2005. Is there anyone representing us? Thank you

Connie- Yes, I always send a link to this site & stress that there are a group of people with catastrophic (meaning vision loss, inability to speak/write/talk clearly, etc.) effects from this drug. As I understand it, catastrophic loss affects your ability to function in an extreme, permanent way. Obviously tooth problems would not fall into this category since its something that can be 'fixed' so that talking & eating wouldn't be problems.

What about using Skype for a virtual meeting place? You can use it with or w/out the video component & its free. I've used it several times & find it works very well. I could also start a FB page, which would allow discussions & people could use their individual accounts to IM each other when desired. Thoughts?

That is the only doctor in my parents town. Plus my mom is retired nurse, so she knows how to manipulate him. It is her who wanted this drug. I think she mean't it for pain relief and didn't realiaze the high she would get from it. And since she is prescription drug addict this one that makes her high really took hold of her and now she is in the next level. With lack of other family support, it is really hard when the person is in their late seventies, but that time it seems too late for them to get out of drug abuse.
I dont live in town with her but I travel hours several times a year to check on her. But I have decide the past year to step back a bit and focus on my life. Although I'm worried sick about her , there is nothing I can do unless she realizes her problem.
I do know my grandmother years ago was aware of it and tried to get through to her but she denied it. So I did have backing back then but I was too young to understand the situation.

I was prescribed Lyrica to help with my chronic migraines. I was only taking 75mg once in the morning and one at night. I was doing okay but started having break through migraines. My neurologist raised my dose by 75mg so would take 2 75mg at night one in the morning. After about a week I noticed a change in my eyesight blurred vision and trouble concentrating. But the worse was when I got home one day from work in the er I was stuttering and slurred speech, shakes and jerking hand when trying to fold laundry. I thought I was having a stroke and the only thing I could think of was the increase dosage. I contacted my neurologist right away on a friday with my conditions and heard nothing. I decided not to take any of it and risk whatever may happen versus what might be going on and if the conditioned worsened to head to er. But it did subside and still no contact from neuro office on Monday left another message, still had shakes and trouble concentrating. Called my family primary physician who called neuro on wednesday and was advised that to quit taking meds and let them know if side effects continued. Still have the shakes and some trouble concentrating but now have my headaches starting. Found out from one of the emergency physicians at the hospital where I work that these are the side effects to lyrica. My worry is did I have a mini stroke and the neurologist is afraid of it and does not want to address it?

Nah I dont think it was a mini-stroke. It's affecting your neurological system.
But they should have you ween off the meds, go back to 75 once a day then come off it.

No Jude you weren't having a mini stroke. My Dr thought I had a stroke when she first saw me in her office and ordered all kinds of tests..MRI, EEG , Brain Scan and everyhing was normal. THose are exactly the symtoms I had and even though they aren't any where near as bad I still have them after being off of Lyrica for over 2 years. The stupid stuff affected something in my brain and I'm not sure it will ever be the same.

Miranda-

Brilliant idea!! I am going to post to the Na. Fibro Assc. boards with LyricaSurvivor2 - its so important to me to spread the word to others.

I'm also planning on writing a letter to ALL the Drs. I have seen in the past 6 years with my symptoms, permanent effects, & the link to this site. If anyone can think of anything else to add, please let me know. And any volunteers to review it would be great. After its done, I'd be happy to make it more a form letter so you can filly in your own info. Hopefully this will help some of you who have problems writing & typing. I'll include a statement that the letter was written by someone else due to lasting neurological problems from Lyrica, so if that applies, you can keep it in. That way the letter will look & sound professional but they will know that writing is now a problem.

Jude- Glad you found this site. I pray that your side effects won't be permanent. This neurologist not returning your phone calls sounds like someone I would NOT want treating me! I'm sure you don't feel better after reading the comments here, but at least you know what's going on now!

As a side note, I went off Lyrica cold turkey since my insurance simply stopped paying for it. Granted I was an uber-b*tch for about a week, but can't remember any serious withdrawals.

Tammy- Again, so sorry about your mom but it sounds like you're absolutely right to step back. Its impossible to help someone who doesn't want to be helped. I can't imagine what kind of high she gets from Lyrica though. It just made me sleepy, depressed, anxious, & HUNGRY - not anything I'd look forward to!

Be well y'all!

Amy,

I'd love to review your letter. I was a proofreader before fibro started stealing my mind and Lyrica finished the job. I'd even be willing to send your letter to every doctor I could find, not just the ones I've been to myself.

My project for today is to find as many fibro boards as I can and start posting!

I empathize. I quit Neurontin cold turkey and thought I was going to die. I tapered so slowly off of Lyrica that I was taking the capsules apart and dividing them into eighths.

Lyrica Survivors Unite! And everybody take care,

Miranda

I am not gtting my hops up, but I kno the first thing I am going totell hi is I cant spek well, so h will have to b someone wth compasion or I will jus hang up. I hope he is really interested. This drug is dangerous. My mom doesn't drive much but since is on this stuff, I know I'm expecting to getting a call sometime about her being in a car accident. People shouldn't be allowed to drive on that drug.
Amy - high is probably not the right term I use, but she is certainly spaced out on it. When talking to her about stop using it, she got upset a said wouldn't be able to talk as much to the neighbors as she used too (which back then wasn't much either).
We went swimming once and she could hardly walk, she was swaggering and then tried to wander off in the woods like that. Turns out she extra medicated herself and that is why she was a real mess that day.

I told another Dr. about Lyrica today & she said that she personally has had 15 patients that have had many of the effects shared here. She is a psychiatrist, so doesn't prescribe it herself but several people must have ended up in her office with Lyrica contributing to their misery.

Miranda- Thanks for volunteering to proofread my letter. I just had a surgical procedure for endometriosis yesterday, so will probaby get it to you next week.

Vicky- I'm so excited & can't wait to hear how your appt. went. Be patient with yourself when trying to get the words out! Thank you for including us in telling him your story.

Amy, I'm looking forward to reading your letter.

Hey, what about if we start out own Yahoo Group? We can post daily events in digest form, and share photos and just generally get to know one another better. We can even all get together and chat in real time with Yahoo Messenger. I don't see a chat feature anywhere on this forum, but I have done chats with my several members of another unrelated forum who have Yahoo Messenger. I don't remember how to do it, because it's been a while, but someone in my other forum will remember how to do it.

Does this make sense? I feel like I'm rambling because I've got a cold and my head is really fuzzy. If folks think this is a good idea, I'll be happy to start the Yahoo Group.

I have left a couple of past posts. But, I too ended up in a psychiatrist office thinking I was loosing my mind not realizing it was the Lyrica. I describe it as not seeing the forest for the trees effect. She advised me to see my doctor about quitting it immediately. When I did, my doctor said, stop immediately, there will be no side effects. 2 years later - just had glasses as my vision went bad, my memory will never be the same, I still have twitches and had $3,000 done in dental work. I get on this site every other day or so just to see what people are still staying years later about the effects of this job. I lost a $100k job due to this drug and the effects it had on me. 50 years old and never been fired in my entire life.....damages - yes, but NO ONE will listen.

Sherree, I'm glad you posted. I feel like we are really gaining momentum & will in time expose this drug/company!!

Reagarding a more interactive group, I had suggested Facebook or Skype a few posts ago. Facebook has an easy IM feature, no downloads or anything to start. I personally find FB easier to navigate than the Yahoo groups, but either would be great. Or maybe we should have a couple so more people can find us. It might be a good idea to have co-sponsors set something up, just because we all have good days & bad days. I admit that I can't be relied on to post every day. A good name for the group would be Lyrica Survivors - I think Miranda came up with the perfect name, if she doesn't mind if its used!

Feel free to disagree with any of my ideas! I was just brainstorming.

Happy Tuesday Goddesses (& Jude)!

Let me know where the group is setting up sites, I have been trying to figure out since I stopped this drug just how my eyesight has changed - I've lost another yr getting off the drug and recovering from the side effects- with no end in sight. I felt attorneys are looking for a clear cut case- perhaps one could comment for us- Mine is not as I have problems before , but none as severe as this one. My Dr recently retired and I'm trying to get my records. Remember all this is not listed under a warning. And I based some of my decision to try this drug on so many of the studies
Which were fraud.

I am lokking for the same help. My new neurologist took me off the drug...slowly! I totally understand how those withdrawing from addiction understand. PCP and neuro say it is an awful drug...especially for women! I am very, very grateful to see I'm not alone!! Thank you so much for saying what I'm feeling, too.

Anyone that starts a Lyrica Survivors Facebook page - I WILL definitely join. This is not the only discussion link as there are others and maybe that will bring everyone together on one group!

If folks think a Facebook page is a good idea, I'd be willing to rejoin. I quit over questions about Facebook's security, and when I used it before, I got tired of getting messages from everybody I knew about a million things I wasn't interested in. Maybe the reality is that Facebook would provide the most visibility for our group, and we want to be seen, right?

I just contacted Crumley Roberts law firm about this. I gave them a link to this discussion. Maybe if several others contact them now they will actually do something. Here is the link if you want to join me in asking them to represent us. http://www.crumleyroberts.com/north-carolina-drug-injury-lawyer.php
