Lyrica Lawsuit (Page 5)

Updated

Does anyone know if there is an ongoing lawsuit against the company who puts out Lyrica? I am a mess from it. Do we have a leg to stand on when it comes to the side effects they found out from people like us? I am a long termer. I have been taking 900 mg since 2005. Is there anyone representing us? Thank you

Well, my Doctor has only just put me on Lyrica (I live in the UK btw). Before Lyrica I was on an increasing dose of Gabapentin/Neurontin - which seemed OK tbh, except the dose had to keep increasing and the number of tablets also increased and as I have trouble swallowing due to a stomach hernia I was put onto Lyrica which is stronger and only 1 tablet. Oh joy i thought! But then the often bizarre side effects began, hands typing the wrong letters, (this took ages to type btw - lol!), the inability to say the right thing which makes me feel as if early onset dementia has set in, the feeling that my nerve ending are 'bouncing', inability to reach orgasm - but plenty of hard work to get darn close but never achieving it...so FRUSTRATING!! Fidgety limbs. Seeing things as if in the '3rd person', as an example: doing a chore you may have before seen as an insurmountable task, but now you just do it with vim and it's not a problem. After it is done, it seems as if doing the task was all a dream and someone else did it - but not you. Totally weird. It doesn't help that I am also going through menopause, so hot flushes add to the oddness of behaviour, especially when you are for example in a bank and wish to speak to someone, you can appear to be a gibbering sweating idioit that at first glance could be drunk (I don't drink any alcohol at all).
I cry so easily nowadays - it's embarrassing - I am so easily upset and I don't know how to respond. It almost brings on a bizarre panic attack where I want to curl up and hide in some kind of box with no one around me.
I am beginning to think the payoff for the lessening of my pain, is some kind of dementia in a tablet, and I am wondering if the sleeping like a hibernating bear, the way my limbs suddenly 'bounce', the inability to find the right words, the visual effects - eyes darting about - and the inability to see what you are trying to find (which you could before) and all the other side effects are actually worth it.
I have had Fibromyalgia for many years, along with irritable bowel, a stomach hernia, oesophagitus, diabetes treated with insulin, diverticulitis, migraine, arthritis, failing ankle and knee joints, severe asthma, depression that I have since childhood (I think that is all). I am desperate to find a drug that stops the endless pain that reduces me to a crying wreck, incapable of functioning as a normal human being.
It would be good if it didn't have so many side effects - but it would have to be something that isn't 'quacky' and actually works and is proven to work.
Thanks to anyone for reading.

Lesley..Unfortunately your systems are probably going to get worse unless you get off of these drugs. I have been off of Lyrica for over 2 years and I still type and write backwards (only way I know how to describe it .I still havie the jerking limbs, not as often but still do. y inability to speak properly seems to get wors when I am under stress, I hate it. It makes me feel like I am mentally challenged. When the symtoms first came on, My dr actually thought I was having a stroke, after many tests, MRIS etc, they couldn't find anything. I just don't understand why we can't find someone to take on the drug company and get this off the Market or at least moniter people more closely. I think you are crazy to continue on this pills. It will only get worse and you have all the same symtoms I had which in turn caused me to attempt suicide, it is only by the grace of God that I am still alive.

I have some dental problems that need help with, cause I took LYRICA and was allergic to it. The Dr. finnaly listened to me and by that time LYRICA was in my system and he took me off LYRICA cold turkey and went through withdrawals severely. That lasted for 3 months been sick, sick sick not even able to go to bathroom by myself. I have black-out dates that I do not even remember and to get to the point . I have had my teeth cleaned every six months for over 20 years and during those months I have 2 teeth that need oral surgery from not beeing able brush my teeth and go to dentist as normal. I need help to get info on company contact because I hold them responseable for my two bad teeth. Plus nobody even knows how I will be affected for the rest of my life from taking the LYRICA still having bad days from it. The Dr. says I should not I said you are not with me 24/7 are you! I know my body better that anyone. Any one with any info., let me know please.

Cal. Welcome to our world. I unfortunatley too had major dental problems along with all of my other symptoms. I can't be$eive they took u off cold turkey. There are major withdraw symptoms with comming off lyrica. I still haven't found anuone to represent us. Noone wants to touch it at this point and time. I figure its just a matter of time before someone will die and then they might look at it. I have been on it for 3 years over 900 mg. I am being weaned off it gradually and it will take months. In the mean time I am sure it is doing damage. It is a shame it was ever marketed. By the way my dental work was 10,000 dollars and they still bother me. That's just the one symptom I could live with. I want my mind back. Vicky

When my counselor suggested I file a lawsuit against Lyrica, I was pretty surprised. It had never occured to me, but the more I thought about it the more sense it made. I lost years of my life to that stupid drug & none of my Drs (at least 5) even thought of looking at the side effects of the drugs they were prescribing me. However in IL you only have 12 months from the time you realized Lyrica (or whatever drug) was responsible for your condition. Your suit doesn't have to be brought to court during that time, but the case needs to be filed. I'm not sure if we can find a way to file the claims ourselves since the lawyers are obviously not on board at this point. I figured out in March so still have some time, but don't want to wait until the last minute. As a side note, I was shopping in Target the other day & happened to be by the pharmacy, I overheard the pharmacist on the phone w/ a patient. She was saying that Lyrica does have vision problems as a side effect but only in 3% of cases, which is about the same as a placebo & was recommending it. I wanted to tell her everything I've found out about this horrible drug!! I know they have a confidentiality issue though, so just struggled not to say anything. Now I feel terrible about it. I wish we could get the word out as often as that damn commercial is on tv!! Telling all my own Drs just doesn't seem like enough.

I am going to devote sometime today to try to find a lawyer willing to represent us. I dont feel that any of us are going to completley recover from the bad side affects we are exibiting, some or all the bad side effects. I will let you know if I find anyone, I just think we are fighting a losing battle. It takes a lot of trails to get a drug approved and Lyrica had to have gone thru that, I would think although I knoew for a fact that weight gain and confusion was not listed as a side effect, those were my first things I noticed, I lost my teeth, I lost my mind and memory and vision problems. The couple lawyers I have spoken to have no interest, Y is that? vicky

Amy:
Is the requirement for filing within 12 months a state guideline or does that apply for filing a suit federally? it might be different in each state.

Vanessa, I'm not sure of the federal vs. state laws that's why I specified IL. I'm doing some research on it though.

I've also emailed Tom Lamb from druginjurylaw.com so hopefully he will reply or post something here. His website recommends reporting serious drug side effects at www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/medwatch/medwatch-online.htm

Maybe if we can start reporting these side effects they will have to change the labeling on the product, upgrading 'side effects' to warnings (like they did in 2009 w/regard to suicidal feelings & intentions). At the very least maybe we can help others not suffer the same way so many in this group have.

I have contacted 3 lawyers and all of then say they can't help me. I think in Michigan someone told me that it was 3 years, that is why I was trying so hard to find one. Cuz my suicide attempt was 3 years agao this last Memorial day weekend. I feel the same way, everytime I see that damn commericial, I want to throw something at it. My Mom became very ill that year that I suffered the horrible side effects. it was the last months I had with her before she passed away and I was a mess, I should have been there for her more than I was able to because of those stupid pills. I wonder if we all take on the drug company in a group lawsuit if the statue of limitations is the same. One good thing though, is my shrink was helping another female patient who was starting to have the same side effects as I was and became suddenly very suicidal just like I did. He recognized that she was acting the same as me and was able to help her and she is doing much better now. Just think if we are all able to help just one person. That is a very good thing. We just have to keep praying that we can find just the right person or law firm that is powerful enough or gutsy enough to try and take on the drug lords...Vicky good luck and I am still searching also. Lets just keep each other updated. P S does anyone else struggle with typing as much as I do? I constantly have to correct myself and not because I am a bad typist. I HATE LYRICA!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, one more lawyer down, Tom Lamb at druginjurylaw.com replied to my email but offered no help. I have sent other emails & will keep updating as I hear back.

Connie, my mother just passed in Feb & I didn't know the pills were affecting me until afterward too! Its hard to live with the regrets, but just being in your mother's life as much as you were able is grace for both of you. I just had this very conversation the other day with regard to my own regrets about the last year w/my mom. So sorry this happened to you too.

My elderly mother is addicted to Lyrica. Her driving is bad because her visions has gotten bad since being on Lyrica. She keeps veering to the right and has dinged a car and a pylon. I fear it is going to cause an accident due to this drug. The doctor ignores family pleas to take her off this drug. And I'm sure if their is a vehicle accident because of it the drug company will be able to escape the blame.

Thamls Amy, I am so sorry for your loss, it doesn't matter how old we are, we still really miss our Mom's.

Yet another lawyer's office (Schlichter, Bogard & Denton) is uninterested in pursuing a case. I'm including the names so you can skip those in your own search. Although it has crossed my mind that they might become interested if they receive multiple inquiries. It seems to me that a lot of these firms want to cash in once someone else has done all the legwork in getting the original conviction!

Vicky, I hope you're having a better day today! (hugs)

Tammy, I'm so worried about your mom. I don't know why she is on Lyrica but is there any was the family could help wean her off the drug slowly and/or find another doctor? Any doctor who refuses to take a person off a medication that is causing catastrophic side effects like loss of vision sounds like a classic case of malpractice to me. Maybe now that you found evidence of the same thing happening to others, the doctor will listen. Keep fighting! I hope everything works out for her!

Connie and Amy: I am sorry for your loss.

here is a link for the breakdown of the settlement against Pfizer. don't know if the information will be helpful, but thought you all would want to see it.

Amy, you're absolutely right -- that sounds like a doctor who is a malpractice suit looking for a place to happen!

Tammy, that doctor sounds utterly incompetent to practice medicine. Advice, get your mother to another doc who knows what they're doing. They are there to serve us, not the other way around. Too many of them are just glorified pHARMaceutical company salespeople.

Connie, sorry to hear of your loss. My mom's been gone 23 years and I still miss her keenly every day.

Vicky, hang in there. We are all here for each other. I wish we could have a chat room of our own where we could go when we are having our worst days.

Oh my gosh! Pretty soon there will be support groups for people who have survived every bad drug out there! Maybe we should print I survived Lyrica on buttons and bumper stickers! Hmmmmmmm.......anybody got a head for business? We could sell them and use the proceeds to hire a REAL attorney, and stop wasting our time on ambulance chasers!

My mother is a drug addict but only to prescription or what ever you can get buy in a drug store. Due to weight gail from Lyrica she is taking two types of laxatives daily. Due to the fact she is an addict I can't do anything because nobody else in the family will stand up with me. My father acknowledges it but prefers not to deal with it. He has an obsession of checking his blood pressure every hour and is worried about dying. My brother is a drug addict so he is useless. Infact he and my mom exchange their oxycotin when the other is out. I'm the only one in the family with a level head and I'm in a rut when I get no back up. So I'm watching her life go to decline while she is enjoying the high from Lyrica.

Tammy,

OMG!! The doctor who is allowing this to go on is a monster! What about going to the state medical board in the state you live in and reporting the abominable practices of this doctor who obviously doesn't give a rip about the health of his patients?

I'm so sorry that you have to face this without the help of any functional family. You must feel as though there is a thousand pound weight on your shoulders! If you need to find emotional support, you might try going to Prohealth. They have a fibromyalgia chat room and one for ME/CFS, which I think is just how they refer to the same illness/syndrome in the UK. Both rooms would be good.

I just had an idea. I'm going to change my user name in those chat rooms to LyricaSurvivor1, and suggest that if anyone else decides to use the same chat rooms, they use a similar user name. That way, the fibro sufferers who are using or considering using Lyrica will possibly start to get the picture about how dangerous this drug is. Anything we can do to get or keep another person off this drug is a victory!

Latresa, that is a new one that Ihaven't heard about..what type of scarring is it, if you don't mind my asking.
Tammy, i totalally sympatize with you, my daughter was addicted to prescription drugs, and it ended up taking her life at 35, it doesn't matter how hard you try, if they don't want to be helped they can't be, i just hope she listened to someone before it is too late for her or some innocent bystander. Best of luck and God's blessings to you.
Amy: I haven't tried this yet, but I think I will next time. But have you tried sending this link to any of the attorneys, so they can see how many people are affected by this awful drug? And also, I think you might be right, we should all contact the same lawyers and then maybe they will not e able to say no.
