Lyrica Lawsuit (Page 13)

Updated

Does anyone know if there is an ongoing lawsuit against the company who puts out Lyrica? I am a mess from it. Do we have a leg to stand on when it comes to the side effects they found out from people like us? I am a long termer. I have been taking 900 mg since 2005. Is there anyone representing us? Thank you

Thanks so much! I'll be checking into this asap. So tired of a $400 bill every time I leave the dentist. I really appreciate the tip! And maybe I could bring a little warmth into these lungs, since I'm just recovering from Chicago pneumonia. :) I would never have followed through with that on my own, so that's why these forums are so important!

I have been off lyrica since april, when i tapered off it i ended up in a psych ward for the first time in my life as i was so confused i didnt even really know my name. While I was on lyrica at first I felt so loopy i wouldnt drive, then i lost my memory, i couldnt even complete sentences. it wasnt until an old friend of mine came to visit me that encouraged me to get help with this. I had suicidal ideations and being a nurse i was scared to report it. My uncle was on lyrica and it made him so confused that he was hit head on broke his neck and his back.

I was placed on Lyrica while in a rehab hospital after a back surgery back in Feb, 2007 (surgery date). They increased the dose to 600 mg daily. I took it daily up until a few months ago. I had been having terrible swelling and leg ulcers in my left leg mainly and a few in right leg, but both legs were swollen, very red and painful. I had MRSA and when these ulcers would form, I would usually fight MRSA in the ulcers, with long hospital stays at a wound care hospital and IV antiobiotics. I was determined to find out about this swelling and ulcers, so as a hunch after hearing on tv about swelling of hands and feet associated with Lyrica. After 24 hours, the swelling started to leave. The huge ulcers started to get better and finally healed. The redness is still there but not as bad. I am positive Lyrica caused this. There is no way in the world I would take this medication again. I wish they had a lawsuit against it. I would gladly participate. I used a lot of my insurance coverage on these hospital stays.

Personal Update: (posting here because I'm too confused to navigate Facebook right now.) I have moved back to Seattle after nearly six years of living elsewhere, and have luckily been able to see the health care provider I was seeing before I moved, whom I like a lot. One great thing -- I specifically asked if the clinic was getting federal or pHARMaceutical industry funding, and she said absolutely not! Yaaaaaaaaaaaay! (Refer back to posts by gemorris, posts numbering around 190 to 200, regarding the funding Pfizer and other big pHARMa criminals give to pain organizations and then the consequent pressure they apply on such organizations to get them to prescribe their poisons, instead of safer, older, more thoroughly tested and proven medications.)

I'm calling Seattle medical malpractice attorneys one by one, in the hope that I will stumble upon one who has the skill and courage to take on the criminals. If anyone in the state of Washington wants updates, let me know on this forum and I will be happy to email privately. I have utterly given up on the big firms that advertise class action suits on TV and elsewhere. They are all LIARS! I've contacted so many of them and gotten no response -- or the can't-help-you response -- or the go-ahead-and-commit-suicide-and-then-we'll-be-interested-in-talking-to-your-surviving-family-members response.

Currently struggling hard with opiate dependency and deepening depression and self-destructiveness. I hope to find that the doctor who kinda specializes in chronic pain at the clinic I'm going to has something positive to say about pain relief options. I'm currently taking the maximum dose of pain medication prescribed by my former doc, and getting a whole four or five hours or marginal pain relief daily, and the rest of the day is intense pain and screaming opiate receptors wanting more. Some life, huh? I am a very creative person and have exciting work planned, but can't find the energy or interest to work unless I'm pain free. Spending lots of hours curled up fetal, in bed, sobbing for help.

I had bought the Alpha-Stim machine, for treatment of depression and pain, but I'm too spaced out or apathetic to remember to use it regularly. Wish there was a big mean guy who would walk into my home twice a day and physically put the electrodes on my earlobes and turn the machine on! LOL! That's the only way I think I'll ever get into the habit of using it religiously. It's hard to find impetus to stay on it when most of the day I sit and stare into space and wish I could die.

Hope all of you are finding some small (or large!) measure of relief as often as possible. I would welcome any personal contact via Facebook -- it's lonely in here and you all are the people who know the most about what it's like.

I am so sorry to hear about all your bad experiences with Lyrica. I just hope that others will research this page before taking it. I have been in contact with a Lawyer here in Canada and with any luck might be successful in getting legal help. I hope that every one of you are successfull in getting a Lawyer and maybe with all of us fighting the drug company we may be able to save a life some day! If anyone knows of any other cases in Canada please let me know. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU!

I've been on Lyrica twice in the past two years. I have fibromyalgia and was perscribed lyrica for pain management. I had to quit both times because of massive weight gain. Sure it helps with fibro pain but then you have joint pain because your body weight is so high. So I figured if I have to be in pain, its better to be thinner and in pain then fat and still in pain. I thought weight gain was my 'main' side effect but after reading all this I realize that maybe its not. I have had major changes in my eyesight and teeth are rotting, all in the last 2 yrs. I also have bipolar disorder and have been stable for a number of years but the last 2 yrs my progress has taken a step back, which scares the hell out of me! I can't speak straight, forget what I'm saying in the middle of a sentence, I'm extremely distracted and for the first time in years I've had suicidal thoughts. All was under control for 7 yrs and then 2 yrs ago things started to change. Thank you all for sharing your stories here, it has been very educational and a real eye opener!

I was taking 250mg a day for nearly 2 years due to peripheral neuropathy from a notch back surgery. I had to retire from law enforcement at the age 35. I didn't have suicidal thoughts, but though I have been off of it for over a year my short term memory is terrible and hasn't improved much since I stopped taking it. While on the medication my wife had 2 miscarriages 4 and 7 months into pregnancy. We were finally able to deliver and now have a healthy little girl. I just found that they are conducting a study at clinicaltrials.gov on its affects on sperm quality. Those losses were devastating to us, that medication needs to be pulled from the market.

Hello folks, I have recently found and read your notes. They almost look identical and for a good reason, Lyrica will destroy you. I began taking it May 2004, 300mg 4x daily (1200mg). Lately I have come to realize I have gained over120lbs in the last year, my vision is failing (was 20/20), hair is falling out, teeth are falling out, swelling in feet, ankles, and male organ and testicles. The swelling is so much that I cannot wear shoes. None of my clothes fit, I spend my days indoors in gym shorts. Besides not having clothes, I am flat ashamed of going out in public because of my looks now. No hair, teeth look horrible, most of you know exactly what I mean. I see a pain management doctor in Alabama and it is very hard to find a good doctor around here that actually cares about you. I visited my doctor yesterday and begged the man to help me get off of Lyrica, so he writes me enough of a prescription of Lyrica to laste a year ! He did not even remotely listen to me. I begged him for help. He is a 3 1/2 hour drive from me. When I go without Lyrica I mentally forget everything. I don't even know my family. My daughter is terrified when I don't know her name or recognize her at all. I won't eat or drink and quickly dehydrate. Just the thought of food makes me nauseous. It is slowly killing me and I didn't even realize it. The only thing that brings me back to reality is to get the Lyrica back in my system. My vertibrae are trashed and I have pain so bad I cannot describe it, but the fact that I am trapped by the Lyrica and running around high on this stuff for six years has me saying enough. I want off this ride but it won't stop. The terrified look on my daughters face when she realizes I really don't know who she is enough for me to stop for that reason alone. She's 10 and a only child so she is very close to me. What kind of damage would that do to a child seeing their dad like that. I wanted to initially take medication so I could have some kind of life but it has really robbed me from living any type of life and the others close to me. I want off of this crap, and I want a lawyer to sue the drug company into bankruptcy. They know this drug is dangerous, just like the tobbacco companies knew their tobbacco blend would kill people, and was very addictive moreso than heroin. They finally had to pay up. This drug company is going to pay for the damage it has caused me and my family, and it's going to pay before I die. I am looking for a very good lawyer folks. Anyone know of a good one with enough backbone to take them on ? Also does anyone have any idea how to get off of this medicine completely ? I'll just have to be crippled up with pain, I don't care anymore. I would much rather live in reality, and know my little girl when I see her. This is one terrible situation to be in, but together we are a force to be reckoned with ! Let's find a lawyer and get this done. I am seriously considering suing my doctor as well because what he has done to me is wrong. If a patient asks for help stopping a medication because of serious side effect's, the doctor should render aid, not turn a deaf ear. I am taking the lyrica now only because I have no choice. I need your help, and hopefully I can help some of you. But as I said, there are so many of us they have no choice, they are going to have to deal with us period. We have to stick together and move forward with this. If anyone can help please reply to this post. I consider suicide all of the time, I just haven't figured out how to do it without hurting my daughter mentally in the process. If I ever get over that, it's as good as done, but I know that will never happen. Please reply and let's band together. This unfortunate problem has brought us all together as family, so we have to do something. Take care everyone.
Roy

Roy
I know this might not be what you want to hear but I think if you’re not having any luck with your doctor, you might want to contact a psychiatrist.
I was told by two doctors just to stop taking Lyrica and I ended up going out of my mind jumping through a window and in a mental hospital for three and a half weeks.
The psychiatrist told me I was there to detox from Lyrica and that no one should just stop taking this drug they need an alternative drug to help detox.
Sorry I can’t remember what she had me on but I hope this will help you.

Roy I'm not on lyrica but have a mother on it. I havent had my mom forget me but her mind isnt as sharp as it used to be. She thought labour day last year was thanksgiving day. For the sake of your daughter try to get off that stuff, and dont kill yourself. Altho it will hurt your daughter seeing you in pain, its hurts more when the parent is not all there and cleary drugged up. I am an adult now, but all my life my mom has had probs with prescription drugs. And lyrica is addictive and she is ever worse from that. Your daughter needs the real you even if you will get crabby some days because your sore, but being in full mind will let her know you are there for her. I love my mother but because of her affects of drugs in the past and now lyrica, I feel the bond is missing because of drug use. I would hate that your daughter would go thru years of lonliness like I have.

Hello everyone. I have been following all entries in this forum for I also was a recipient of Lyrica. I took it for Fybromyalgia (300mg daily) for 3 years. I didn't notice any change in my symptoms . If anything pain just got worse. I told my doctor about a year ago that I didnt want to take it anymore since I wasn't getting any relief. I quit cold turkey. Also I am not sure what kind of high everyone is talking about I never felt high. So since I have been stopped the lyrica my short term memory is very bad. I ask the same thing over and over. My family and friends have noticed this. They get angry and say mom I just told you this morning? I do have pain so bad that it feels like a body tooth ache, even hurts to lay down in my bed this is not constant but sometimes it will last for weeks then all of a sudden I am only suffering from my bad back. ( I also have a terrible back and that's never going to go away). I just try to accept the pain and try to find a way to cope I keep thinking that walking it out will help but in the end of the day it proves to create more pain. I get angry at the doctor because all they want to do it give you pain medication for this? It is very frustrating. If the doctors would care enough to find out what is wrong (Like a PET scan) then maybe they would know what is going on and treat accordingly. It just that this scan is very expensive and most insurances wont cover or will only pay according to the contracted cost through the Insurance copy. Will continue to watch the growing number of recipients of this medication and hopefully someone can final a lawyer for this medicine.

Roy, Tammlyn, & Kelly- Thanks for recently posting your experiences w/Lyrica. It makes me sick that this drug is still on the market despite the efforts of so many of us to find a lawyer willing to take on Pfizer. I have been off Lyrica for awhile now & things do get better, though certain symptoms will last a lifetime. Please get help in getting off this drug - it is critical & any Dr. who refuses to help SHOULD be sued for malpractice!! However, it seems many Dr.s will not listen - or like mine, they don't believe you. Protect yourself from further damage by looking for an understanding doctor. They are out there, even though they may be few. I started going to a naturopath & can't believe how much he has helped me in just a couple months. I do have to pay for it myself, which is difficult, but I haven't felt this good in years. I only take 2 medications now instead of 6-8 & hope to eventually be able to stop these. Since I'm not paying for a rheumatologist, pain dr, psychiatrist, & counselor & I take fewer meds, that money goes toward natural healing. I still have a long way to go, but I wanted everyone to know there ARE options that can get you off the drugs & through this nightmare. I have also gone to a myofascial therapist who works on my most painful spots. She is also a physical therapist, so insurance does cover most of this. Of course the pain is worse for a few days after treatment but then it is SO much better. I'd be happy to give you links to a couple websites or answer questions. Roy is right, we need to stick together to beat this! If you're at a point where its difficult to process everything & look for a new doctor, then please ask someone you trust for help. Getting help is necessary & all the crazy symptoms are not your fault. Don't give up. You can find a way to take your life back!

I would love to know if there is anyone to represent us as i dont believe the company that makes lyrica was aware of the side effects for me it helped with my nerve pain it made me loopy enough to not want to drive but it took away my pain. I was almost in debilitating pain for 2 years and when i went off it i started having tremors and involuntary movements in my left arm it was horrible i couldnt complete a sentence or tell anyone anything about the day before i felt like i had a brain injury and needed to relearn to talk and write etc...

Amy, Thank you so much for the very helpful information. You are so right, in many instances those of use that are "victims" of Lyrica sometimes do not know how to get help because it messes up our thought process so badly, example is in my original posting that at times I did not know my daughters name and she was standing right in front of me. We do not even realize we need help at that point. We do need someone to step in at that time to lead us to help or the emergency room.
You do not know how much I appreciate your help, and all others out that can benefit from reading your information. I looked online for a very long time to unite with people that have been damaged permanently from this poison. I unfortunately was misguided by my thought process, but finally I typed in "Lyrica Lawsuits" and found everyone here. I have been spending alot of time trying to find a lawyer that will represent all of us. So far no luck, but I never give up. I will find one even if I have to take a crash course in handling this type of Lawsuit. I do have a hefty background in commecial real estate law, (like that really helps now, huh !), however it does give me a "leg up" .
Right now we are facing a serious situation. We live in the tornado ravaged area of NW Alabama. We have no power, out of food, and the stores that are open in other areas are accepting cash only because thier power is out also. No one can get cash because the banks are without power, no computers etc. Please pray for us, I guess we are just lucky to be alive, many are not so fortunate. Take care everyone, I definitely care about all of you too. I'll get back online as soon as I can. Thank you all so very much, we will find "good" legal representation. We really have to help those that cannot help themselves. Thanks Amy !

To Roy and all,

Thanks for the support and a place to come and vent. I have filled out applications for all the class action Lyrica suits I can find and keep getting the polite messages saying, no we can't help you, but............blah, blah, blah.

Roy, your dedication is amazing! So is the patience of everyone here who is suffering in frustration. Due to a new legislation in my state, they are taking the ability to prescribe opioid pain meds and other controlled substances out of the hands of general practice and family physicians, and my nearest hope is a pain clinic at the university, but the waiting list is 5 to 6 months long. I have even appealed to a congressional rep in my district, and the administrative assistant I've talked to in his office will help me, within his ability to do so, but I doubt if he can help me with getting into a clinic earlier. I also doubt that he is going to be able to help me find legal assistance. If there's anything that your legal background can help us accomplish, Roy, it will be a total gift!

Meanwhile, hang in there, everyone. Faith, strength, and prayers to everyone.

Vicki (Miranda)

you need to look at the cause of fibro myalgia not treat the symptom. I suffer from it for 7 years until i found out that i have fructose malabsorption. This causes FM. I have been free of pain since going on a low fructose diet. If you google FM offer the cause is a food intolerance. Dairy also causes it. if you live in America and fructose or corn syrup is in everything then you probably have fructose malabsorption.

Fiona- Thank you for sharing the cause of your fibromyalgia. Not everyone on this forum has fibro though. Doctors are prescribing Lyrica for everything from headaches to post sugical pain. If you read back posts, some have to take pills in order to keep working, or they would lose their insurance. The choice between experiencing crushing pain every moment or trying a medicine that makes you forgetful, tired, crabby, etc. is NEVER an easy choice. Not to mention the doctors do not know of and/or believe in the worst side effects despite evidence documented on several sites. I also have fibro and I am a vegetarian, and rarely consume sugars, food coloring, corn syrup, juices, dairy, etc. I have tried for 21 years to find a natural solution - dietary changes, energy work, acupuncture, IV fluids & soooo many more. Only recently I found a naturopath who has been helping me. So while I respect your experience & success, I do not believe that there is only 1 cause for fibro. I'm trying to say this gently because your experience may really resonate with some people. In future posts, try to word your beliefs so your attitudes & predjudice (about people not trying anything other than pills) don't come through so strongly. That will turn people away, when your information could be very helpful to some. I'm so happy that you have found something that works for you!
