Lyrica Lawsuit (Page 11)

Updated

Does anyone know if there is an ongoing lawsuit against the company who puts out Lyrica? I am a mess from it. Do we have a leg to stand on when it comes to the side effects they found out from people like us? I am a long termer. I have been taking 900 mg since 2005. Is there anyone representing us? Thank you

Thank you for everyone who posted comments about Lyrica. If anyone knows about a lawsuit regarding this drug, please let me know. I don't have the cash to start one myself...

Lyrica took away part of my life and it sounds as if it did to alot of people. This drug is sometimes labeled a a controlled substance as well. After I was weened off Lyrica, I was put back on my old therapy of Neurotin. That has been the best medication for me. I will never forget when my docter was weening me off, I felt like I was coming off a high,

I just can't imagine what Lyrica did to all of you... This is a nasty drug....

I found another RICO suit against Pfizer.
News from June 10, 2010

Blue Cross Blue Shield seeks punitive damages from Pfizer and Pharmacia & Upjohn, which already have paid more than $2 billion for pushing the drugs Bextra, Geodon and Lyrica for off-label uses. The insurer also sued four executives allegedly directed the marketing, which allegedly included kickbacks to doctors. Blue Cross claims the deceptive marketing caused it to overpay for prescription drugs.

The plaintiffs say Pfizer and Pharmacia inflated demand by pushing these drugs for off-label uses, and through false statements in advertisements: Bextra, an anti-inflammatory; Geodon, an anti-psychotic; and Lyrica, an anti-epileptic drug.
`
This improper conduct caused HSCS to pay for participants' prescriptions for these drugs and often in lieu of paying for cheaper, yet equally effective, drugs, according to the complaint.

HCSC seeks treble damages and punitive damages - including at least three month's advertising budget for Pfizer - alleging fraud, deceptive trade, negligence, unjust enrichment and RICO violations.

I found the law firm Parker Waichman Alonso LLP is looking for Lyrica victims to represent, at http://www.yourlawyer.com/topics/overview/Lyrica. They represented the whistleblower who was involved in the record breaking $2.3 billion Pfizer settlement. I don't know anything about them other than that, but they sound like a good place to start.

Their site also mentions that a doctor who faked evidence proving Lyrica was effective against pain was sentenced to jail.

The article reads in part... "Dr. Scott S. Reuben, former chief of acute pain at the Bay State Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts, has pleaded guilty to one count of health care fraud. As we've reported previously, Reuben was charged in federal court last month with falsifying studies involving the post-surgical benefits of drugs like Vioxx, Bextra, Celebrex, Effexor and Lyrica.

According to the Associated Press, federal prosecutors in Massachusetts had alleged that Reuben sought and received research grants from pharmaceutical companies but never performed the studies. Instead, for over a dozen years, he fabricated patient data for studies he submitted to, and were ultimately published in, medical journals."

You might mention that to the next doctor who tells you Lyrica has been proven to provide pain relief.

Gemorris:

Is the lawsuit you are talking about is for the insurance companies and Medicaid? Aren't they filing for the claims paid out by the insurance companies for Medicaid? Are RICO lawsuits for consumers?
If so are the ongoing lawsuits being file against Pfizer for Lyrica & Neurontin RICO lawsuits.
Lyrica did not go thru the normal drug trials and research. They were able to get the drug fast tracked. The slap on the wrist from the Feds was from not doing the proper follow up required by the FDA. The FDA drafted a letter to Pfizer regarding the lack of follow up. I have not been able to find anything about Pfizer’s reply of what has been done to be in compliance. If you look back thru the posts to this site you can see what I was able to find out about Pfizer and Lyrica. It is not hard to see they are driven by MONEY and not the well being of others. What is so outrageous to me is the lack of actions from the FDA. They have allowed this drug to be approved without the proper testing and now are flying under the radar. At what point can the consumer step forward and make someone accountable. The good (I use that loosely) Dr.Scott who falsified the 21 drug studies took the fall, but what about the accountability for Pfizer?

The initial RICO lawsuit was filed against Pfizer by an HMO. This was really a fortune and necessary thing. Only a major business would be able to finance the cost of winning the first RICO conviction against a company with the resources of Pfizer. Now that they've been convicted, it will be much easier for consumers to sue Pfizer since they no longer have to prove the initial criminal act, only that the criminal act negatively affected them.

RICO lawsuits can be filed by individuals as well as business and governments. I've found a law firm advertising its services for Lyrica victims. This firm represented the whistleblower who helped win the $2 billion fine Pfizer paid last year. I posted the info to this site earlier today, but the posting has been flagged for review.

I have had many years of pain from Lyrica because a little known side effect is it buckles your knees. It took 5 doctors and a battery of tests to find out why I was falling down so much. I have fractured my arm, disc and worse and still causing me pain is my tailbone

I am looking for a laywer to take on the company that puts out Lyrica as well. I was subscribed Lyrica for my fibromyalgia and took it for about 3 weeks and as a result I ended up jumping through a window (resulting in permanent injuries) and wound up in a mental institute for about a month. I am still fighting to come back to normal everyday.

If anyone has any information that can help please let me know.

I have contacted yet another legal office regarding suing Pfizer, and have not heard back -- it's been a couple of weeks.

I'm working on moving out of the little backwater in which I live, and back to Seattle, which is crawling with lawyers. I think I'll make a big sign saying ANY ATTORNEY WITH THE TESTICULAR FORTITUDE TO TACKLE PFIZER, TALK TO ME! RICO CHARGES INVOLVED! and standing on the busiest corner of the city. You'd think that, with the RICO history these guys have, there would be greedy lawyers crawling out of the woodwork, now that someone else has laid the groundwork for those treble damages/treble fees!

I'm going to see my doc this week and have blood drawn to have my liver and kidney functions tested, after being hammered for over a year by all the acetaminophen in the Vicodin I've taken for the pain.

I started taking Lyrica at 18 years old. If I had a great doctor that EXPLAINED my options and side effects - I would've turned the other way and RAN. It was by far the worst decision I've ever made. I had so many problems, too many to describe, and now a year later after being off of Lyrica, I STILL have the muscle pain I had when I was on Lyrica. THIS IS BULL that they allow this kind of thing on the market like candy! It's ridiculous and I still can't believe this medication is being prescribed. The doctors should really go back to school and figure out what they're little signature is doing to people. NEVER trust a doctor.....

TEETH PROBLEMS CAUSED BY LYRICA! I had to have NINE root canals, one implant and total dental reconstruction, after taking LRICA for only seven months. I saw my Dentist right before starting Lyrica and had a perfect check up. Then, my teeth just started to chip apart and fall out. Everyone thought I was a "Meth-Addict"! It almost destroyed my life. I didn't even mention the 100 pounds I gained in SEVEN months! I can lose the weight, but not re-grow teeth! Count me in on holding Pfizer (maker of Lyrica) accountable, to the fullest extent the law allows. Somebody should really go to jail!

I want to sue Lyrica...Pfizer. Ive never experienced more hell. My teeth have decay, I was put on it at 19 and took it for 4 years, I had to be catherized to pee, many ER visits, suspected MS, Not being abale to speak because my brain over time stopped working, memory lapses that came out of nowhere, not where I was and feeling so drunk, fainting 7 times in a row while laying down (another ER visit), my bowels were severely impacted, and I don't know how to explain or begin to understand why someone, out of greed, give this medicine to someone. And their labeling is screwed up...Where are these side effects listed? The withdrawals were hell too those side effects are not listed. The cold sweats were horrible. It took 13 days to get 300mg a day out of my system. I felt like I was a drug addict. I never took more than recommended. I can even list the things I've had including concusions. This is sadistic torture. I've lost alot because I trusted my doctor and that they had my best interest in mind. I was so wrong. Does anyone have information about a law suit?

I just filled out the form with the firm that 'gemorris' suggested, I typed the name of the company (Parker Waichman Alonso LLP) into a search engine & it brought me to this site: http://www.yourlawyer.com/practice_areas/defective_drugs Lyrica is listed as a defective drug on their list. I'll let you know what they have to say! Someone has to take this case soon!! There are SO many side effects & many of them permanent. I will also post this to our Facebook page called Lyrica Survivors. Feel free to join the discussion there too. Thanks!

I started taking Lyrica in 2008 because I was concerned about the long-term effects of taking ultramER daily (liver failure) over long term. As a young mom to four small children being around when they get older was a real concern. Through this time I was also having huge problems in my marriage and began seeking a divorce (also another reason why I wanted to get off the narco). The side-effects caused by lyrica (somnelence, confusion mostly) subsequently caused huge issues in my ability to care for my children. Though I made herculean efforts to provide for their care my husband has effectively used the side-effects against me in court and has gained custody of my three youngest children. This drug is horrible. I stopped taking it after a year of trying to make it work, I am now taking Savella and am so far much more satisfied with it. I wish I had never heard of lyrica.

Friggin useless! I was getting angry being denied by every company we talk to,but now I'm irate. Unfortunately its the irate that lends to giving up on a lost cause rather than getting things done. There is no other way to to eloquently say anything about our situations than, THIS SUCKS!! Grrrrr.
