Lyrica Not Approved For Me

Updated

I have nerve damage, shingles, fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, the list goes on and on! I can't have Lyrica, Cymbalta, or Gabapentin. They are not approved , and they continue to reject the approval no matter how many request are submitted.
What can I do?

I am sorry, who is that is not approving them for you? Your insurance company?? You are not very specific in your post, so it is a little confusion.

If they are claiming that these drugs are not approved to treat these types of conditions, then that is incorrect because both Cymbalta and Lyrica are approved by the FDA to treat post-herpetic neuralgia.

If you can give me an idea of the type of insurance you have, I can try to research their formulary to see what they will cover for you, so you can discuss other options with your doctor.

I also want to make sure that you are aware that these drugs do not help everyone, they only work for a few, certain types of nerve pain.

Due to this and the fact that many people are placed on high doses and there have been no long-term safety studied regarding the use of these meds for these conditions at such high doses, this could be why they do not want to cover them.

There are just as many other meds that are proven to to treat this conditions, that have been on the market much longer, and there have already been many studies done so the effects of them are already well-known.

What other options have you tried?

I have a degenerative, chronic pain condition and I tried both Gabapentin and Cymbalta and they didn't help me at all. But there are others who have had great results from using them.

The only other thing I can suggest is to completely cooperate with your doctor, get whatever tests, exams and etc. that they ask you to undergo, and try whatever meds that you can have covered that they prescribe. If you don't play the game with your doctor you will never get the help you need and if the occasion arises that you need heavier more rigidly controlled meds such as narcotics, they will not even think of prescribing them to you.

take Alpha Lipoic Acid for neuropathy - OTC, and practically no side effects

Well it may have few side effects for you, but it could be entirely different for another person. Plus it could have interactions with other meds this person is on, they didn't list any, so we have no way of knowing what is safe for them to use.

Lyrica is approved for post-herpatic neuralgia. That's what I take it for. Doc had me try ALA first, but I didn't get relief from it. PN is in the trigeminal nerve system on the left side of my face. A low dose of Lyrica has helped me a lot You might ask the doc for a sample bottle to try so that you'll know if it's worth your time and money to fight for the prescription coverage.

Alpha Lipoic Acid for neuropathy made me nauseated and didn't help at all. I now take Metanex but you have to take it for about 6 months to even notice a difference. its a prescription and works better than Alpha Lipic Acid and no side effects, its a vitamin mixture. I couldn't take neurotin(gabpentin) made me a zombia at the lowest dose of 100mg. I take lyrica and it helps, at least I can get some sleep. 75mg 2 x a day. hardly no side effects but expensive. if your insurance will cover it the co-pay is around 75.00 but worth it. I can't stand taking a drug that messes with my head like an antidepressant does, so lyrica is good. there is also a cream to put on called voltran. by prescription. AND LYRICA IS APPROVED FOR diabetic peripheral neuropathy, WHICH is what I have and it is severe. good luck
