Loratab Vs. Vicoproffen

I'm a 34 yr old woman and have had 2 hip replacements in the past 4 months. I had to travel 3 hours to a specialist to have them done. Since they changed the prescribibg laws I couldn't get my regular pain meds called in. Loratab 7.5 mg. My ortho told me to go se my general practitioner until I came back to him for follow up. My general prescribed me vicoproffen 7.5. What's the difference? Is one more effective than the other?

Both meds are covered by the new Federal Law. Lortab is Hydrocodone and Acetaminophen.Vicoprofen is Hydrocodone and Ibuprofen. The strength of both meds you have been prescribed have the same amount of hydrocodone in them, 7.5 mgs.

Following suit with what BL previously posted, one other factor you might also have to take into consideration when trying to determine if one medication is more effective than the other, is by examining the list of inactive ingredients (binders/fillers) they each contain - which, in some events have been known to alter a medication's efficacy by hindering its bioavailability.

In such cases, there are reports suggesting that certain binders/fillers do not fully metabolize and therefore does not allow the active ingredient(s) to be released as well as they do in other similar meds. So with that said, I believe it really comes down to your own personal preference between these two substances (ibuprofen and acetaminophen)... because it may be that someone else responds favorably to one or the other; opposite of what works best for you or vise versa.
