I was recently prescribed suboxone and klonopin. So I was wondering if anyone out there has taken this combo and what thier feelings are on the subject?

Ok today is my pcp apt,
I talked to my sub doctor and she said that their needed to be no communication between her and my pcp for me to get the klonopin, ugh I'm just anxious he isn't going to give it to me because of my past with opiates! Benzo's have always helped me and I have never become addicted to them but will he believe me is the real question. Do you guys think I will be fine? Am I overthinking here?

It's natural, the anxiety your feeling about this appt.

Just speak openly about how your anxiety affects you, how your Sub doctor said it was fine, and that you understand that Benzos can be addictive but you've never had a problem with them in the past.

I've had the same conversations with my pcp's too. Don't be surprised if the doctor tries to suggest something else, something non-habit forming, but tell them that those have never worked for you in the past. And that Klonopin is the only one that really helps to control your panic attacks.

I think you'll be fine... come back and let us know how it went! Good luck!

ps: I'd say "relax", but if you have a somewhat elevated BP (because you're so nervous) that could work to your advantage, know what I mean?

My pcp gave me the klonopin and it went through on insurance! I wonder why the valuim didn't. Maybe it's stronger or something on subs. But thanks for all your help :)

I just got a prescription for 2mg ×2 a day for Severe P.T.S.D. I did get prescribed before while on Subs but a different sub doctor. Due to abusing benzos not klonipin though. I abused the strong short acting ones. I am in counsling by choice for addiction 7 hrs a month, go to mtgs, and have a husband who had five years clean we both had a three day relapse. His a little longer. I kinda got myself talked into that one and could have done the right thing. He know surrendered as of a month ago. I got one month and 3 days. First time in my life that you I had the strongest filling of begging him please I don't want this. I miss my spiritually part of me. That means to me living right nobody's perfect but I was messing around with the devil. I had a lot of consequences internally from that. This was my first dirty U/A in 9 months with xanax in it until I came across another terrible panic attack and flashback and because my husband o.d. cyf came to our home to see how things where going. I kept a old script of klonipin in my med cab. Not his type of med. So no trigger to him. I never felt a high off klonipin I feel more focused and that I can handle college kids work flashbacks panic attacks but need the subs because it helps. I don't feel ready to get off neithier oh but that day will come. I would choose a rehab in my case because of seizure findings. The cyf agent said well it's not expired take it. She knew I was on Subs too. This Doc seems polite. I don't need anymore changes dramatically in my life. I should have gotten a letter I requested online 3 days ago from a pcp whom isn't a writer just seeing what help needs done so I called in and got the nurse. Doc is not in doing rounds in the hospital. My sub appt. is tommorrow. What do I do? My husband is still working as an addiction therapist he got a red flag but some ppl do understand it happens. So where do I go? I live in Pittsburgh Pa. A very nice home. A diabetic autistic child and a baby plus I am on antibiotics for subs. Is there a big difference when a pcp writes that it's known as ethical?

Started back up on Klonipin which I def don't abuse. Someone like me that has severe nightmares and P.T.S.D. anxiety comes with that. My pcp wrote also had one relapse before all this. My pcp is an ethical one. Not just a writer and has known that I only used zanax due to when I really wanted to get a high mixed with alcholol. My husband is an addiction counsler whom had relasped with me. We where knocking the na program We stopped doing our own internal work. He had strep throat and had to take a week off before a week he had off the next few days due to evaluations for his heart. He o.d.ed. I gave him CPR as 911 plus we have a security botton. Or should say buttons to push. He came too but unaware. One bag. I got clean 3 days before him and decided I did not want that life. It internally crushed my spirit and soul. I went right to an aa mtg. I choose aa because it's more ethical for me and my sponsor, cyf had to come because we have beautiful children whom I told my husband if we are getting high we aren't keeping them here. It did not last long. I got us early intervention to come to the house. Cyf had to check of course. Everything ended up fine. She seen what had been going on. She easy here for 3 hrs. She clearly could see anxiety due to PTSD. I tould her I take zoloft but it is not helping the flashbacks. I was worried about everyone in the home. PTSD women are great mom's she said. I had showed her all meds. One was from last year and one month expired. She said take it Colleen. She said take half of one to help me knowing I am on Subs but I told her your not a doc but claims to had to take hours of diagnostics and also I told her that I'm in therapy by choice more than needed to be on suboxone. I am getting a referral to see my shrink. I would abuse xanax from other ppl for the sake of the two joined together when 210mg. No lie f***ing discovery house but what I need is to let the truth out. I don't feel any high off klonipin I feel stable and a better mom, college student. I have a seizure disorder to due to being abused terribly as a child which I hid from docs. I use to have to hide for 0k!!!- My question if any one had a similar thing going on or advice I am referring to by Doc whom is the one who wrote while he was aware of me being on Subs in the first place my insurance used him for psych sevices and certified counslers I seen there but could not afford subs. He could not take a patient on welfare insurance for subs at that time. Ethical place still there. Just someone be strait with me and try to help. Excuse my literature on here. I am on a very strong dose for an accute sinus and caught the strept. Daycare my son goes 3 days a week to help him get into a place of more independence and global understandings. I am very functional. I got him early intervention. He has improved 99.9% for his age. I keep my addiction open to a point of understanding. I want to give someone my number whom really will respond with clarity please. Good site here. Happy weekend. I let my pcp know everything important. Sorry but my sinus infection is saying take a break. So long till I hereally from someone. Thank you

This is how people die from mixing the two. If you are nodding off, you're on the verge of an overdose. You need to tell the prescribing dr. you're nodding off and have you dose adjusted to a safe level.

I totally agree. I am on 24 mg a day of suboxone and 3 klonopin a day. I feel like it is a great combination and safe. I talked to my Dr about it and he said the only time it's not safe is if you abuse it and take more than prescribed. I live it and it has helped me tremendously

I know this is a old , reply, just had to jump in, because I'm really confused , and upset with a DO doc, I have been on clonazepam 2 mg a day for over 20 years for restless legs and now stress , here a few weeks back I decided I needed to stop taking the clonazepam because of abuse I only was prescribed 30 a month , I thought the only way I could get off them was by getting on a suboxone program , the DO doc , will start by taking 8mg a day , half morning half bedtime , fine but he says NO clonazepam , the first 3 or 4 days have been like someone having all their teeth pulled with no shots, the nausea has been so bad , called doc , he give me some nausea meds , no good , was still stick another 3 days until I stop the suboxone myself , now first of all why the hell would this DA , dumb ASS not DO doc ....now ,why even try to get my off clonazepam with suboxone , he had to have known this was not a good idea, not with some only taking 60mg a month , now after reading on here about everyone taking Klonpin some more than I with out suboxone ,one here's two sides of the story , bad to take benzo with suboxone , them my Dr. prescribed me both, who here thinks my doc is off his track, I do , I'm going back on my clonazepam , may try and split the 2 mg dose down to 1mg 4 times daily that way I have it at high level all day,

You are 100% incorrect with your statement. You don't get sick that way, it's the other way around. (taking sub while opiate still in system)

This is correct ONLY if you are taking as prescribed and are honest about EVERYTHING & how much you are taking. I do take both by prescription for severe panic disorder & major anxiety. I have to be able to be clearheaded because I am a caregiver. I have not used self medicated or taken non-prescribed drugs for 10 years by the grace of God. I tried going without any meds for i whole year, and I basically couldn't function, so i take what helps me live a normal life. I'm never drowsy, but using opiates for 20 years takes a toll on the brain. I so wish I never tried opiates!

FYI:This is to give a simple fact/ experience, based reply to the person who says, "your doctor won't prescribed anything that will hurt you." That may be true of sober doctors, who always pay attention 2 details/ competent doctors but I've been a pharmacist, for over 25 years. The past 12 years, I'm a supervisor of other licensed pharmacists. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW. Ask ANY Competent pharmacist, and they will tell you that the Most important part of our jobs is triple checking prescriptions, Especially new 1s, to make sure that LICENSED M.D.s, etc. are Not writing prescriptions without diligently Checking the patient's prescription history. Every week, a minimum of a half dozen times, we see Red flags caused by very busy, often incompetent or stoned Doctors. who , without checking or thinking(often both) as he/she writes a prescription for a patient Without checking the patient's most updated information. *My primary care physician of over 21 years, agreed & admits it's an epidemic problem, that frequently causes a high risk of disaster. 1 of the most common examples, are people with a background of serious heart trouble. . Then some inattentive Dr. writes them, without thinking, a high dose of Viagra or more powerful E-D medications. That combined with their complete medical history, likely will give them a stroke or heart attack. *When this type of situation happens, we call the Dr. to inform them & most of the time they immediately Adjust the prescription. * MOST (not all) of us are raised to respect & Not question doctors, lawyers or cops. I was raised by a R.N. & a dentist/ oral surgeon, and they warned me. I found out in my school of pharmacy @ a well known east coast University, how right my parents were.* Google/ search for the number of deaths caused by Dr. prescribed medIcines. What I just described Or the money in "out of court" settlements that Dr.'s insurance companies pay out every year for Flat out negligence/ incompetence. THE ISSUE HERE IS WHEN CHOOSING A DOCTOR OR PHARMACY, TAKE A LITTLE TIME & RESEARCH A DOCTOR, LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT, BECAUSE IT DOES. * The Good news is there are Great doctors readily taking new patients. *My personal primary care doctor(who for over 20 years has been the head of the cardiology department) will freely admit that the number of incompetent and/ or drug addicted physicians, is flat out Scary! That's why "Malpractice insurance" is so incredibly expensive! * Do your research. Do not "Choose" the 1st Dr. who will take your insurance. Every state has a medical/ dental Free service, that will give you the background & past actions for & against doctors. ( State Bar Associations have the same public records for licensed lawyers.) * A small amount of internet research could save your life or a loved one's life. BE YOUR OWN PERSONAL "Watchdog". God Bless
