Plans is neither morphine or oxycodone. It has its own molecular structure. A 40mg Opana is equal to an 80mg OxyContin or oxycodone. The generic name is oxymorphone. There is a slight chance that you may have an allergic reaction to it if you are allergic to morphine, but it is rarely the case.

If you are on a Medicare part D prescription drug insurance plan and are considered to have a low enough income, medicare has several assistance programs that can help lower the cost of your drug plan. Your state medical program, such as Medicaid also has programs that can help lower or pay your premium and often times your copay as well. Low income medicare recipients often receive lower drug cost amounts than what is advertised. Another benefit is that you can change drug plan's anytime during the year which I have had to do several times to find a plan that covers all my meds without prior authorization. I currently have Magellan basic rx which covers both name brand opana as well as the generic name oxymorphone 40mg er 3 times a day. Dilaudid or hydropmorphone 8mg, 2 3 times daily for breakthrough pain as well. I hope this information helps and if I can help in any way just let me know.

Did you ever find an understanding Dr? My husband has been a 'sufferer' for going on 15 yrs now. He too can barely walk. But without his medicine, he surely can NOT. His medicine is the ONLY thing giving him a better quality of life. And I have to stand by and watch as he not only suffers but also, now Medicare dictate that he can not have his regular medicine, that which he's been on for over 10 yrs now- 80 mg OxyContin. And now, the Dr was FORCED to bend with what the insurance, Medicare, is willing to pay for. That is either Morphine (which doesn't help my husband at all) or this oxymorphone stuff. Walgreens was out so they're ordering it now but we don't know if it'll work yet for him. All he & I want is him to have a good quality of life....just to live that life happily. Instead, we're now dealing with this Medicare crap-them dictating what he can and can not have! And to make things even more worse- he worked his whole life, retired out of Chrysler with Blue Cross, who will allow him his normal meds...but Medicare has taken over and wants to run the show! Terrible! He worked so he'd have good insurance rest of his life but turn a certain age, and Medicare takes that all away. He is being forced to use this damn Medicare! And they will not let him have his medicine!! It's so wrong!!! He sees a really nice Dr off of Tessen Ferry. Dr Alexander Beyzer. Not too far down from St Anthony's hospital. My husband got lucky when he was directed to this Dr because dr Beyzer is very understanding & compassionate AND his staff is just lovely! His staff is made up of several Christian ladies, most from Russia. Everybody there is very nice! Just as long as you take your meds the way he prescribed, you & the Dr will get along just fine, I'm sure! Please continue speaking up about the DEA over stepping their boundaries so maybe they'll see that there are people whom NEED strong meds just to have any life at all and that not everybody with a narcotic script is a junkie! good luck, friend!

I also suffer from chronic pain and I was taking 4 10mg methadone and 3 10 mg oxycodone. I, like you, was lucky to live at a 4. Insurance has now dictated that I can only have two a day. Not effective!!! Now am taking two 20mg morphine XR. Not what they told me it would be as far as effectiveness!!! I am also getting extremely tired of being treated like a "junkie". All I want is to be able to live each day with some sort of quality. I have 2 children that depend on me as well. Government has their nose in something they have absolutely no business being involved in!! I'm pretty sure not one of them has a MD!! Let doctors do their job! They already weeded out the bad ones by using drug panels (to be sure that YOU are the one taking the pills and to make sure you aren't taking anything you shouldn't be) and pill counts(to be sure your not selling them or taking to many!). The rest of us truly NEED them and don't abuse them!!! Leave us alone!!!

I had fusion surgery in 2010 and it has been downhill ever since. I tried the implanted nureo stimulator, worked for a few months, woke up one morning turned it on as usual, nothing different, and it was like putting my finger in a light socket!! Shut it off, turned it to 0 and the sec. I started it got electrocuted again!! I've had this thing adjusted too many times, I finally just let the damn thing die. Im with you, the D.E.A. Needs to keep their nose out of the legal prescribing of pain drugs. The fkn gov has no idea what its like to have this constant pain. If they did they'd shut up and go get a crack dealer selling to the school kids and leave people like me who have been through every avenue before settling for pain scripts. Started with bone crackers in the mid 90's so if this is where im at for pain control until the good lord calls me home so be it!! Back your ass out of my privacy with my doctor, shut up and let the medical record speak for itself!! Unless you have genuinely had this maladity, then you dont understand how miserable it is and how painful it is!! Now if you read this and think that the way it is written is the ramblings of a strung out addict, then you need to take your uneducated ass back to college and get the hell out of my life!! Chronic pain is no joke and needs to be between our dr's and the patient!! Government, go play with your reckers and stop trying to justify your jobs.

Like most of you, I have dealt with chronic pain since age 19. I am now 43 and have had enough of everything from spinal inj's., which resulted in permanent nerve root damage bilateral from l-2 to s-1, shoulder reconstruction and recently artificial disc replacement at c-5 c-6. Not to mention degenerative disc disease, a broken hip and very bad knees. I've been on everything from fentanyl to oxymorphone 40 mg three times a day plus breakthrough meds. The oxymorphone is the only medication that allows me to continue working as an electrician but thanks to the DEA temporarily shutting down my dr and me not being able to find a new Dr, I withdrew from all medication cold turkey. The DEA and FDA need to concentrate on their issues and leave legitimate doctors and patients alone...

To Texan1-Oxymorphone is the ONLY pain Med that works for me. I take 2, 40mg ER's, and 1, 20mg ER in the morning. I take the same dose 12 hours later. I can also take up to 3 hydromorphones for bt pain. This is the ONLY way that I can walk as well as work during the day. My doctor had to write a letter to my insurance company in order for them to cover my pain medication.
