I've been prescribed fentanyl 50mg pain patches and i was just wondering if it's okay to cut one in half an chew on it?

MCL I DON'T GIVE A S*** WHO YOU ARE OR WHAT YOU KNOW OR TAKE/WEAR. EVEN IF IT STAYS IN SYSTEM FOR 8 (haha) Days as you say. WTF. IT'S NOT NOT NOT NOT STOPPING PAIN AFTER 72 Hours Tops. I take everyday 150 = 1x100 + 1x50 And still have pain. Have high tolerance Yes. But wearing does NOT STOP MY PAIN. CHEWING RELEASES QUICKER AND LASTS 2 And 1/2 to 3 hours Top Till I CHEW ANOTHER PIECE !!!! You think you know so much WHY CAUSE YOU READ BOOKS AND WENT TO SCHOOL TO LEARN ABOUT DRUGS !!!!!! WOWWIEEEE. Who cares. It's the pain ppl have, feel Whatever. I am sick of you running your pie hole off If they had lollipops here in Canada by God I would BE SUCKING ON ONE OF THEM SO WTF IS the Difference mr know it all ?? WHAT NOW eh ???? Suck OR Chew = who cares. WHAT EVER HELPS MY PAIN THE BEST !! God Bless the Rest of you pain sufferers.

Chronicpain101 Is so Right on with EVERYTHING HE/she Is saying. As With Chronic I also know my Pain, my body, my Limit !! I actually am Not chewing on the patch. I keep it mostly Under my tongue. It is that this way I get much Better relieve. I get 1x 100 AND 1x50 A Day. YES A DAY. I CUT pieces and change Every 2 to 3 hours. As that's about how long each patch will Last "ME" & MY PAIN I am also only back here cause I get emails Saying about comments. Usually I don't Bother. Today I decided to come and see. I use for pain and for the last and Final Time NOT TO GET HIGH !!!!!!! For MY "Pain" Hope you all have, get OR Find relieve for Your Pains !!! I have my 1 st morning piece In my mouth Now And I still have PAIN And This shows you all you do build a tolerance To these also. If they work on your body KEEP WEARING THEM AND DON'T THINK ABOUT CHEWING THEM. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE WITH YOUR PAIN !!!!!!

FINALLY Someone who KNOWS what Am Talking about. !! Sorry to hear about Your Pains as I do know the feelings. But those Ppl at the Forum accusing me of abusing To get high is so wrong ! I live In Canada and IF we had the lollipop here OR the patch you insert in your mouth I WOULD be getting one of them for my Pains. But either way I THANK YOU For Knowing & Understanding where I Am Coming from. Nice to see someone on here Who REALLY DOES KNOW, understand And HAS A CLUE About chewing and WHY I Chew and am not against it. Thanks my Friend. Thanks.

Ppl like me is taking to relieve my pain Quicker And NOT NOT NOT I REPEAT NOT TO GET HIGH !!!!!!!!!!! This works in the same way as the new Patches that are out. You stick onto your Inside mouth and stick onto your Cheek till it DISOLVES !!! Again there for me is NO NO NO NO NO Getting HIGH !!! You don't know me, you don't know OR Feel MY EVRRYDAY PAINS YES PAIN with an S At the End of Pain !! Wearing releases only so much an hour. Chewing Just releases quicker and lasts about 3 Hours per piece. By the way AGAIN they Make them to be inserted in your Mouth NOW !! They are just NOT YET Available In Canada. Or I WOULD Be asking My Dr To change me from wearing mine to Sticking in MY MOUTH PPL Comment BUT HAVE NO IDEA who They are replying to or that person. Such As You To My Comment But that's fine. Cause I know I take mine For pain & I don't have to answer to no one !! I know my pain ( s ) are real And I know how much , how big and how Often to insert patch into my own Mouth ! I am in MAJOR PAIN. Suffer chronic back pain 4 Types of Arthritis Fibromyalgia Sciatic nerve And That's just to name A few I chew and It is the ONLY Way it will work 100 to 150 A DAY. YAAA. A DAY !! I don't get High. It helps with my pain Wearing it does NOT NOT REMOVE PAIN SO I SUCK ON PIECES ALL DAY LONG. YES. ALL DAY LONG. NO DIFFERENT THEN WEARING

EXCEPT THIS WORKS BETTER AND LASTS A BIT LONGER BETWEEN PIECES !!!!! I DO NOT ADVISE PPL TO DO AS I DO. I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING ALSO IT'S NO DIFFERENT THEN THE NEWEST PATCH PRESCRIBED NOW THAT YOU INSERT IN YOUR MOUTH AND WEAR ON YOUR CHEEK TILL IT DISOLVES. I'd never advocate that anyone chew on pain patches c'OZ' if word gets out that folk are starting to enjoy chewing on them, then who knows, it's quite possible that the makers of beef jerky won't be "stuck" on that at all, and will more than likely want to "stick it" to their competitor$!

The message is: Don't ever chew on pain patches...lest you, like many others, suffer teething problems!

People like you who Take pain medicine to get high, is the main reason why people witch need the medicine and Take it the way the doctor tell you to are having it become harder to get medicine. If All you want is to get high. You Don't need any kinda pain medicine because you are A abuser A Drug addict and need help someone should report this behavior to the doctor.. and thanks for making it harder for disabled people and real people suffering in pain now It's so hard to medicine in Florida because of people like you. DO NOT EAT, CHEW OR EVEN THINK ABOUT CHEWING A PIECE OF THESE PATCHES!!!! THEY ARE MADE TO BE TIME RELEASED FOR A REASON AND YOU WILL OD!!!! I AM A PERSON WHO HAS VERY BAD DISC PROBLEMS AND BECAUSE OF PEOPLE ABUSING THESE MEDS' IT IS HARD FOR ME TO GET MY PRESCRIPTION SO I CAN FUNCTION ON A DAILY BASIS!!! people need to understand that us who have a legitimate pain problem are getting screwed over because of the abuser's of these drugs!!! I also know to many young people that have died due to overuse and abuse!! if your not in severe pain don't ruin it for the real people who need this medication to survive!!!!! And don't blame the people that sell a few to survive!!! our health care is a shamble, nobody can afford insurance and if you don't have it then your screwed if your an addict you will steal , rob and sometimes KILL for YOUR next FIX so don't blame anyone but your loved one who is an addict and will get it no matter who they hurt!! my son has stolen from me to get high!!! he doesnt care if the rent is paid or not he jjust wants his FIX!!!! again

I wear my 75 mg patches for four days, take percs for break through pain. My pain Dr. td me that their is enough med in them to work and it mostly does. He suggested I do this to build up a stash, still writes me a script every month but he has concernsabout the way the country is going and wants his patients to have a little backup in case of a government caused shortage. I now have a whole month extra which gives me peace of mind. Just a thought for people, it sure doesn't hurt to have extra in case of emergency if you can streath your meds out a bit on the good days.
To the jerks chewing them, let them OD, make it better for those of us with real pain.

I just cannot believe the advice that I am reading here, anyone who thinks it's OK to chew this stuff is crazy. You don't give advice to junkies like this, someone is going to die because of this misguided advice. Wow, just how stupid can you be to tell someone to chew this stuff. Fentanyl is for people who are in dire need of a pain reliever when nothing else will work. This is the exact reason why some Doctors are afraid to prescribe pain killers, all because of the abusers, you make it hard for someone who has real pain to get the help they need.

I just heard of people chewing patches,and I'm mortified and furious. These are the people who make those of us with chronic serious and extremely painful illness have to go through and act of congress to obtain the medicines we need to just through the day with the ability to function in some way and enjoy some quality of life, gallery are flirting with disaster chewing patches, ( especially teens). If u were ligitamally using these drugs for their intended purpose and being prescribed them by your doctor u would be having this conversation with them, not off the Internet. Please get some help if u r doing this. This practice will kill. !!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTH is wrong with you people? You cannot chew a Fentanyl patch. Not only with the unreliable portion of the drug you get seriously hurt you, but you are causing long term health and mental problems. Seriously, WTH??

I swear to God there's A LOT of ignorant people on here posting stupid crap, saying "Go ahead and chew it!" You're idiots!!! And you piss me off because thanks to people like you, I'm screwed!! I had a Dr that was prescribing Norco 10/325 1-2 tabs every 4-6 hours for herniated discs in my neck and lower back for close to a couple years. During the course of that couple years I had surgery replacing a disc and fusing 2 in my neck then 3 months later a surgery fixing a torn rotator cuff in my shoulder by placing an anchor in there. The surgeons then took over my pain management for 3 months for each surgery. After the 3 months I returned to my primary Dr for further pain management. After a few months of this my Dr fired me along with a large group of other patients that were on narcotic pain killers. (I know this because a nurse that no longer works at that office told me about the mass firings.) It has been a year since my surgeries and I have been in double the pain in my neck than I was before (it feels like something is constantly poking me at the base of my head) and still having pain in my lower back and now have pain running down both legs, knees and feet to the point that it is impossible for me to function. I CANNOT find a Dr ANYWHERE that cares enough to prescribe ANYTHING for pain relief and basicly treat me like a druggie! I was even referred to a pain clinic where the Dr will ONLY do epidural injections in my lower back. The last time I had one I developed a dural puncture and suffered debilitating headaches 24/7 for 3 1/2 weeks straight! So obviously I refuse to get another epidural. That Dr WILL NOT prescribe anything for pain because he says he has too many other patients he has to monitor. My new primary Dr says it's a copout way of saying he doesn't trust me. I'm almost to the point of eating a bullet because I am so miserable and tired of how much of a horrible person I've turned into and how horrible I treat my daughter, family, friends and coworkers. I'm almost at my breaking point and don't know what to do! I've even told my Dr that in the past, pain killers such as oxy (which in my opinion are worse than Norco) don't even help and I found that Norco is the only thing that does help! What can I do??? Where can I turn??? So PLEASE STOP ABUSING PAIN KILLERS FOR THE SAKE OF PEOPLE THAT NEED THEM!!!! Please somebody help me!!

I wish,I could find a dr. in warren ohio to help mw with my pain. I have mutiple health problems which cause me to be bed ridden, I do not get to live life because of drug addicts who take these meds only to get high. It is a shame. If I want any relieve im forced to buying them at high prices off the streets. I and my family cannot afford it. I have been really thinking if taking my life because if the pain and im a burden on my family. Ive been to pain mangement and was put on 3 petks 7.5 a day while ive seen heroin addicts frt scripts if oxys and these patches everyone talking about. It seems because I dont have.cancer or about to die, drs will not help. I have 2 bulging disks in my neck, 3 in my loeer back, all the fluids are misding around the disks making them rub, ive tried phy. Therapy. Ive got.severe arthritis, and neuropathy but still im left to suffer, why???? I dont know maybe if I was rich and had good health insurance I woukd be treated diffetent. It just seems to be unfair for the people are are truly in pain. If u just want to get high, get help, go into rehap, so the people who.really need the help,can be treated. Im a mom of 4 and a grandmom of 2 and I cannot even my childrsn because the pain is too bad.

Hey, aka Goonie Bird Its becuz of people like u that my doctors dont take my chronic n severe pain seriously until they take their time n look at my medical records. I suffer from severe n chronic pain on the left side my head do to nerve damage i also have chronic severe neck n coccix pain that runs through my legs n back my head. I been on several pain n narcotics prescribed meds n i was prescribed 25mg fetanyl patches while taking oxycodone 10mg. I couldnt tell the difrence base on its tolerance or relieving my pain after using the patch like recomended, not to mention it barely stayed on my shoulder it kept falling off . So i was ignorant to chewed on 1/2 of a 25mg patch n i got naseaus, lite headed, blurred speech n blurry vision. Including heavy breathing felt like a fish out of water. Couldnt breath. I felt like i was going to die. So how the f*** did u feel "awsome" after chewing an entire 25mg patch. One things for sure i never tried chewing it again ever since.

I got shot a couple years ago while in college and I am on fentanyl. All I can say is DO NOT ABUSE FENTANYL . If its not covering your pain, talk to your doc. This is not a drug you want to mess with. By the time you realize you've taken too much, it's likely too late..... You will die. If your going to be a dumb ass and abuse drugs, smoke weed. I don't smoke weed but I know it's nearly impossible to overdose on it. Seriously, I'm in my twenties and partied my ass off in college. I heard horror stories about classmates dying from fentanyl. It is not a recreational drug, don't mess with it. I really hope everyone takes this serious.

I agree with you Pinky, the patches only last a total of 72 hours of time released medicine. If you chew them the medicine comes out instantly and only last a few hours. Even if you leave the patch on for that long it is highly doubtful that you will even get that much time released medicine. Thats why I cut them and chew them so I can get relief right away. I don't like controlled stuff. I only like the patches because taking the pills especially with the tylenol kills my stomach.
