I've been prescribed fentanyl 50mg pain patches and i was just wondering if it's okay to cut one in half an chew on it?

EXCUSE ME!!!!!! I am a Chronic Pain Sufferer & let me tell you All something. I HAVE TRIED TO TAKE MY MEDS The proper Way. They NONE Of them The SO CALLED PROPER Way = According To " You" ppl= Does NOT work for the Many Numbers Of PAIN ISSUES I LIVE WITH EVERY SINGLE Day!!!! I worked ALL MY Life. One of the Last jobs I worked at for close to 20 yrs WAS THE Job That Added me My " MANY MORE" Pains I suffer on A Daily Basis- Non Friggon Stop. So No one out there Is going To Preach To Me on How I take My Meds !! As long as They Give Me Some Relief & I Am NOT Hurting No one = it's my Business & NO One else's !! My List is very Long of Pains Daily. N Fibromyalgia , Chronic Back Pain, Arthritis, Osteoarthritis , plantar Fasittis, DDG,bone Spurs on feet & on my spine. Ok So i do NOT Want To listen to what YOU Ppl think of HOW I TAKE MEDS as long as I am getting Relief. The proper way isn't Working long enough OR Quick enough For the pain I have. I AM ON THE STRONGEST Meds there Is. What's that tell you ppl IF I HAVE TO take them another way for them To work !! I am NOT An Addict I am Just A Person Who wants Relief the fastest way and what Ever way WILL LAST THE LONGEST

If YOU ppl Think I am Guilty & Doing wrong To be able to get up in the morning & walk Stand- sit & even Move = then I Am. But you know what. I do Not Care. Cause At least this way I AM GETTING The Relief I Do NEED BADLY EVERY SINGLE DAY TO ALLOW ME Some kind of Life Then so be it !! Last thing & I could care less If Anyone Believes me or Not I do NOT GET High !!!!!!!! I GET RELIEF & ONLY RELIEF FROM MY MANY PAINS. SO IF you want to Call ppl names. Call yourselves Them. Cause you are Not My Judge or Jury !!! I worked All My Life Till My Pains Put Me On The good ole Waste my Life Away " Disability" yeah. The job you do at home Where you get paid MAYBE $4.00 an Hour Do you Honestly THINK EVERYONE ON Disability Wants to be ??????? The correct Answer Is - NO !! So take your stupid Opinions if me and put Them where the Sun Don't Shine !! To anyone out there who abuses for better Relief I Tip My Hat out To You All. Your NOT HURTING NO One. Punk...........How others take their meds definitely affects others who take medication.

Because of the abuse of drugs like Fentanyl, laws are being changed in places. These drugs are no longer available to people with chronic illnesses.

I really would like to know why people would abuse a medication. Why do people chew, swallow or inject the medication in these patches, when they are used as directed they work perfectly well.

Don't insult those of us using patches as directed with comments such as.....it is the only way they work!

I talked to a Dr, a pharmacist and the maker of fentanyl patches and all agreed that people who chew or otherwise abuse fentanyl patches likely do not need them for pain management. They are only using them this way because they are addicted to the drug, not needing the drug for a chronic condition.

I have to stand up for the guy who said you can die from touching them. Everything I have read says that you CAN die from touching them if you are not opiate tolerate. Pets and Kids have died from exposure to discarded patches (these are ones that are used so are not even at full strength) and I have read of OD's (no deaths) of health care workers who applied the patch without wearing gloves and were exposed to the medication. It even says in the documentation that comes with them that this is a possiblility and they suggest folding the used patch onto itself and FLUSHING it to avoid someone not opiate tolerate touching it in the trash. It also says in the literature that comes with it that if it is transferred from a patient to someone else during contact (like through hugging) that person should wash the area immediately and go to the ER. I agree that even a touch can be fatal to a person who is not already tolerate to opiods... just read the insert.

Hey dope head if They were ment to be chewed on it would say so. I got a good idea why Don't you and him go eat a months supply i one day. The Only people that chew on fentanyl Is To Get High. And It's Problematic in the ER Room I work In Everyday Or night I'm working we Have So many People That Overdose from Not taking Medication the way It's supposed to be. So snort Your oxycontin chew on the fentanyl And hopefully when you OD We Can Save Your Life

Don't you worry about HOW ANYONE "Else", Bedides YOURSELF , takes THEIR Meds!! How other ppl take Their Meds has Nothing to do with IF other ppl get what They Need for Their Pain And IF by chance Your Dr will NOT give To you what Meds You Want = has Nothing to do with HOW others take theirs !!

I wish people like you would go to jail. Because of people like you it makes it harder for the sick disabled people living in chronic pain to get The medication They need. Please get some help with your addiction. And your supposed to take prescription medicine the way you doctor tells you to. So why don't you ask you doctor if you should eat a patch. Or snort a pill. Or smoke it. He will love to tell you a thing or two

Educate urself...please. there is a huge difference between being an addict and being dependent. Yes, sure your body builds up tolerance, but this does not make u an addict. There ar addicts who take the drug for the high who are no longer in pain etc.who will do anything to get the high....those who are dependent are dependent on the drug to relieve pain and make an attempt to live a normal life....look it up..Dependent vs Addict.....dependents don't seek highs, they seek relief....

do you have trouble eating and having a bowl movement....im an addict and have been using K8s and fent. for a while. when I run out of the dilaudid I have to use the fent....and I cant eat at all...and feel full all the time...the sight of food makes me sick. If you could tell me if you have these same problems with the fent and any possible solutions?!?!?!?

People like you are the reason why the Death is. Making life Hell for sick disabled people living in chronic pain. If the medicine is a pach it is made to stick on your body. Not chew up. In Florida now you cannot even find a pharmacy to fill a legal prescription for pain medicine. And it because people like you chew the medicine and overdose and die. So thanks for making my life hell. And for that last post the DEA wants the FDA to move Hydrocodone To a scheduled 2 but It hasn't happened yet because a doctor Can not give you refills on a Scheduled 2 and thay are doing that now. But if the DEA Keeps Getting Their Way No Body Will Get Pain Medicine. In Florida It's Almost Impossible To Get A pharmacy To Fill A legal Prescription because of Fear from the DEA.

Hey Jenny, I'm a nurse and I don't know if ur from the USA or not but, hydrocodone was made a schedule 2 narcotic on January 13 of 2013. So now the dea has made it harder on real chronic pain patients but what really is causing trouble for the people who need the meds is the new ISTOP law which has just caused the whole government control over scripts to just explode...I don't want to bore you with the details, if ur interested in knowing more just google it or message me back. I hope this helps, this message is not intended to say ur stupid or anything, I just wanted to share some info that I am very knowledgable about.

Mrbogit- I have five herniated discs in my cervical vertebrae, a pinched nerve that effects my left arm (which causes numbness yet is nice enough to give me severe pain with it), I also have a broken hip and a fractured femur right below the neck of the femur at the hip joint. Because of these injuries I will be in increasingly more pain as I get older. I am only 27 with the spine of a 40 year old due to a horrific MVA. Also, on top of my pain being excruciating, it also causes severe muscle spasms, which causes my pain to increase even more. There are days when I can't even get out of bed, let alone move around. I was on Vicodin 10s for 6-7 years and have built a tolerance to it, so recently my doctor prescribed me Percocet 10/325's up to 5 times a day. I take it with Baclofen, a muscle relaxer, which when taken together helps me function and be able to take care of myself and my home. I am a nurse and I need to be able to function and I have found that these help me. I may be called an addict but if I am so be it. I do not abuse my medications, I take them as directed, I don't buy or sell them on the streets, and I most definitely do not get any "high" from my medications. Well I hope this helps you in some way. I wish everyone on here good luck at getting through the pain that they are in. I don't condone any illegal activities to procure these medications, please find a doctor that will help you, look for one until you find one that will help you with your pain. I know that I am destined for a lifetime of pain and suffering due to my injuries. I wouldn't wish this situation on anyone, not even my worst enemies. My prayers are with all of you, whether you are "addicts" or not.

Ur stupid aymee 25 mcg is 0.025 mg....I am a real nurse and I took math in school. There are 1000 mcg in a milligram. Please for gods sake do not listen to this stupid chick. Don't chew any patch, no amount is safe.

I can't believe you would even admit to being a nurse after all the stupidity you posted on this comment!!! any nurse would know that it is possible to die from touching any transdermal medication if they have an unknown allergy to it. So if you want to critisize for bad advise, you should critisize YOURSELF!!!!!! it sounds to me like you are the one with an addiction problem and probably take your patients pain medication and make them suffer so you can get high!! people like you make me sick!!! I know I am commenting on a post that was done 3 yrs ago but I still had to comment and get this off my chest!!!!! Please do EVERYONE a favor and keep the comments to YOURSELF!!!!!!!!
