Id say yes do and then id pray to god you have a painful rash form in your mouth so that your doctor finds out you are abusing them and so you are forced to stop abusing them because he kicks your pain med abusing ass out his office door....it is people that ask stupid questions like this and take their narcotic pain meds irresponibly that hurt the peoples chances that need it and will obv know you DO NOT chew on your fent patch unless you are abusing them or being irresponsibe. If the patch on your skin isnt working well enough tell your doctor....if it is and you just want to make yourself feel high then shame on you and learn to bake cookies or color in your coloring book. STOP ABUSING MEDICATIONS. PILLS ARE FOR YOUR MOUTH AND PATCHES ARE FOR YOUR SKIN!!! STOP ASKING STUPID QUESTIONS LIKE THIS OR WHETHER YOU CAN SMOKE THEM OR NOT!!!!!!!!! GRRRRR....moron!!

My 28 year old son did this and he died...it is my understanding he had done this many times before but for some reason, this time was fatal. It still can kill you even if your not a novice. Please think twice before breaking your family's hearts.

I have been advised by my pain management specialist that a spinal cord stimulator would be an excellent answer to my chronic back pain issue. Like yourself, I've had several lumbar surgeries with the results only getting worse and worse. I'd like to know what kind of results

meh125, I am sorry to hear of the loss of your daughter. Narcotics are only continuing to become more and more potent in modern society, and as if this isnt bad enough, drug users are finding more and more ways to abuse these heavy narcotics. For instance, removing the time coating on oxy and opana pills to release the drug all at once. Fentanyl patches are just as dangerous as pill form narcotics as people will smoke the gel or chew on them to release the chemical more rapidly. As a former drug addict, I fully understand the power that narcotics have over a persons life. Basically, there is no life. All that matters is finding money for pills and getting high. Whoever the person once was, is no longer. I have strayed from the message I want to convey to you though. You asked "will the poeple who sold the drugs to your daughther ever get whats coming"? Absolutely. I do not know if you are religious, but in the end everyone must answer to God. I am religious, but must say that would not make me feel even slightly better if I were in your situation. What should make you feel better is that the people who are selling these drugs are 100% reliable on these drugs and cannot function without them. I know this from experience. While their lives may seem pretty good, making large amounts of money selling drugs and getting high everyday, they are really living in hell. When it comes to narcotics, no amount is ever too much. They will continue to chase the high day after day, slowly losing everything in the process. These dealers do no live in mansions and have valuable possessions. Even though they are pulling in thousands and thousands of dollars selling these overpriced, yet highly demanded pills, they live s*** lives because all of their money goes toward getting high. I know it must be excruciatingly painful for you to wake up each day knowing these people could care less about the pill that killed your precious daughther. Thinking about them sitting around getting high and having a good time. In reality, addicts live quite the opposite of a good life. Their choices inevitably lead to them losing everything-family, friends, money, health, happiness, and many more. In addition there are only two places an addict can end up-dead or in jail. In the end the person who sold that pill will pay for it many ways, and it is only a matter of time because the percentage of narcotic addicts that are able to quit is slim to none. He will lose all his money and not be able to find the drug and get desperate and rob to get money for his drug and end in jail or deteriorate his body til he dies. WHile the process of revenge for yourself will be slow, IT WILL COME. Believe me.

I was recently prescribed the 12.5mcg Fentanyl patch for severe Fibromyalgia pain, Myofascial pain and Degenerative Disc Disease pain. Prior to this Fentanyl patch, I had only been prescribed Hydrocodone 5/500, to be taken 3 x per day, which I had taken for only about 14-15 months. After reading some of the posts here, I am slightly concerned about why my doctor would have given me these patches to use, if I had not already been taking stronger opiates, and for a longer period of time. Does this make any sense to anyone that knows more about the patches than I do? I realize that the dosage of Fentanyl that I was prescribed, is a small dose compared to what others are taking. I have had a heck of a time adjusting to the patches.....experiencing hives, itching, never hungry anymore, nausea, numbness in hands, feet and lips. Neither my doctor, nor my pharmacy gave me any detailed information about using this drug. Of course, I did take time to read the insert that came along with medication, as well as reading as much information as I could find about it on the Internet....hence this website. The more information I read, the more concerned I become about it. I have called my doctor's office a couple of times to ask if my side effects will be temporary, and I have not received a response back from them. It took me eight years and seven different doctors, to even find a doctor that was willing to listen to me and agree to work with me regarding my pain ( that all started as a result of an automobile accident that happened in 2001). I don't want to seem like I am questioning his treatment plan, or anything, but it just seems like I was possibly prescribed this medication before my system was actually ready for it.(?) I felt no pain relief at all during the first three patches, and am still experiencing some serious pain now, even though I feel that edge has been taken off somewhat after using the fourth patch. Does any of this sound normal to anyone that has been using this patch for awhile? I live in Texas, in a rural area, where there are only a handful of doctors who I can see without having to travel a great distance to see them. By great distance, I mean at least 8 hours round trip, and that is just travel time. My insurance (Cigna) does not pay for the patches, and it cost me $179.00 for ten of the 12.5 mcg patches. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I found my wife in bed barely breathing... Thank God my mom was visiting. I told her to please take my kids down to the basement (to their play area). Then to come up to my room. I called 911 and got an ambulance on the way. I could barely get a pulse. Then I swept the mouth and found the patch that she had been sucking on or chewing. I took it out and told the 911 operator to give that info to the ambulance crew. I did the best I could to try to revive her and it was only a few minutes before the ambulance crew was there to take over, My mom was beside herself but I was so happy that my kids didn't have to see their mother like that. My wife got to the hospital in time and is now 7 months sober. If she can do it you can too. I don't know what made me check on my wife at that time. just a bad feeling but it saved her life as she was actively dying, At least that is what the doctor told me. Keep your head up and realize that you are not a bad person if you struggle with addiction. It happens to lots of people everyday. From criminals to lawyers even doctors can struggle with this DISEASE. Praying for each and every one of you. Addiction has cost me my brother my father and almost my wife. Just remember one thing... NEVER quit quitting. even if you slip up and backslid into it. tomorrow is a new day. Love you all and good luck!

What do you care? Don't coach people. It's not your strong suit. Most "recovering addicts" are the BIGGEST know-it-alls on Earth. Sooo irritating.

"doc-on-meds" - Stop lying. It's obvious to ALL that you are no doc with the horrid grammar and worse spelling. There is no WAY you are an educated person. YOU'RE the coconut that's going to get someone else killed. I hate people like you. People who fake what they are because they wish they were the person they're not good enough to be. You know nothing about Fentanyl, E.R., other people or yourself. And, it's preTENSE, not preTENDS. As in, "Your incompetence is poorly masked a preTENSE that you're a doctor".

Dear readers. I'm a recovering addict and we do and say stupid things when we are in active addiction (using illegal drugs, or taking prescribed meds inappropriately). Do not, I say again, do not chew these patches. They are for around the clock, opiate tolerant patients who have severe pain that needs to be medicated around the clock. They are not for just after surgery, once in a while, etc. I have had six lumbar surgeries since 06 and the 50mcg patches are the only thing along with four 15mg oxycodone for breakthrough pain four times a day. I also need sleep medication to keep from waking up from the pain. Percocet 10mg worked good for a few years, but then my liver panel on a blood analysis started showing up some minor problems. That could have been precipitated by my former using (consequences). Please don't put advice on here that might wind up killing someone, please!!!! Thanks. If I can be of help to anyone, please post and I will try to give you a thoughtful, informed answer.
