I've been prescribed fentanyl 50mg pain patches and i was just wondering if it's okay to cut one in half an chew on it?

You are soooo right about actual pain patients have a hard time getting meds. I'm one of those people. My doctor moved, leaving me a WEEK to find another. I live in the middle of nowhere and have called every possible doc within a 3hr radius!!! No one is taking either my insurance or new patients!!! I'm out of meds(2 of the 30mg roxi every 4 hrs) I have full body RSD ( chronic nerve disease causes severe burning sensation constantly, muscle spasms, bone and joint pain.... Its horrid!!! There is NOTHING they can do I have not tried. Anyway, all I have is a 7.5 patch, and I've had it on for about 6 hrs and I guess it's not enough cause I'm suffering from withdrawal symptoms on top of this in redible pain. I tried the ER, and explained everything, they said they for no reason prescribe pain meds and wouldn't admit me, nor would they give me anything to help with the withdrawal. WHAT DO I DO???? I go tomorrow to a doc I'm paying out of pocket for... I just don't think I'm gonna make it! I hate that so many abuse these meds, making it near impossible for those who need it to get it! I AM MISERABLE in every sense of the word... Help!!!

I was.on.100mcg/HR patches. I put a new patch on.after 3 days and forgot to take the old one off. I was.driving.to work and had a bad car accident caused by the rain. I broke 7 bones. They gave me a few shots of morphine. I quit breathing. They realized I had fentanyl patches on...I almost died...I don't.abuse them. You shouldn't.either.

Really?, you should know your tolerance I been on them for 4!! Years!! Dumbass I'm on 175/mcg/hr after 3 days they don't "stop working" miraculously there's a LOT MORE in em than stated you can go 8 days w/ a single patch mind you the potency is a lot lower after the 4th day. Maybe you should read the pharmaceutical warnings? There's an IDEA FOR YA!!!

Remember that these are patches and the bio-availability of the drug is excellent when applied to the skin. The adhesive is matrixed (cross etched) with the fentanyl but no adhesive gets into your body when used as designed - on the skin. Sticking it into your mouth will not only put fentanyl into your system, but will aslo put the dangerous adhesive and related toxic chemicals in. This will slowly kill your liver over a period of months to years, depending on your age, health, etc. Besides that, it isn't even worth doing because the bio-availabilty of fentanyl via sub lingual or buccal from the patch is extremely poor (not like Actiq -Buccal they make for immediate release under the tongue or bucally). I'm talking less than 25% of the patch via mouth will ever make it into your bloodstream. Is getting liver cirrosis worth that risk??? It's a very painful way to die and I doubt anyone who needs a liver because they abused patches would be put on a liver transplant recipient's list if the abuse fact got discovered. If you insist on near 100% bio-availabilty, then you must smoke small slices of the patch. Again, you are risking lethal overdose and lung/throat damage. Put it on your skin folks, the way it's been designed. Pahrmacisits know what they're doing. We are experimenters with lots to lose out of ignorance. My best friend is in liver failure after sucking on 1/8 to 1/4 of his 100mcg patches and these were the USED ones from his skin! He was doing this for one year and got sicker and sicker, not realizing his liver was toxic and becoming necrotic from the adhesive, not the drug! I can see people wanting a buzz; it's part of the "how the hell do I get away from this pain" regiment we are all (or most of us are) in. So, please be careful and kind to your body even in the midst of it being seemingly unkind to us.

Tell your doctor that they are making you sick! People are allergic to various meds. Simply tell him that after trials of different pain meds with your previous doctor, lortabs are the only that don't make you sick. I would think that would do it for you. I am speaking from experience because hydro makes me sick and oxycodone doesn't and my doctor wouldn't knowing give me something that makes me sick. Hope this helps.

Your daughter is suffering from what I am. Their roxicodone 30s and I've been addicted to them for the 4 years. I started getting them from a doctor in Florida named Dr Michael moyer. He was giving me 180 roxis and 120 bars. It's nearly killied me and I've overdosed once. Is that what your daughter bought? Was a roxi?

Fentanyl chewer with no nick name, Please read my post below about what happened to my good friend after chewing patches (USED ONES!). His liver is cirrotic and he's suffering terribly. The surgeons don't even want to keep him on the liver donor recipient list now that they know how he wrecked himself. It's not the Fentanyl that does the damage, it's the poisonous adhesives they use. Besides, the bio-availabilty of a patch via mouth - to stomach - to small intestine - to the end is extremely small. It's really not worth the risk. Please don't do it. If you're intent on using it contrary to its proper use, do some research on Fentanyl and liver damage. This really isn't the place to ask how to abuse a drug. It's a knowledge base for prescription medications.

the major first thing to ask yourself or anyone who wants to chew on a patch is how tolerant is your body to the med. i have been on the patch for years for my servere lymes disease and the patch is nothing. Also they tell me to take 8 to 10 percocet 10's. Your body gets used to the med(any med) So then the effect isnt as strong. But i must say from first hand account....once ur so use to it , eating it will not make u high at all. If i have barley any in my body then put one in my mouth for a bit at most i may get tired some. Thats it. But be VERY VERY carefull. You can kill yourself so quick you wont know what happpen, thats if you survive....best of luck and also i kno allot of first hand pain accounts so if i can help. reply to the post and ill get it

I agree. I also have been on a long time. FTP 3 x 80 oxy & 25 mcg patch. TO THE POINT: If you have pain you will not get High. BUT You also MUST KNOW YOUR Limit with this highly ADDICTIVE Medication. If your new to this you should NOT Chew And you SHOULD Wear it as your SUPPOSE To '& NOT Any other way. YES ppl OD quickly and can happen before You know it. So I would say STICK TO Wearing your patch for awhile OR till you KNOW what YOU can Handle. You do NOT want to Die !!!!!!! Which is very very possible and easy to do IF you don't know your Limit. And you Don't & Won't till you been on awhile As some of us have on here who have Posted replies!!!!!!

If you do chew it DO NOT chew it all at once cut it in to proportions I had a little sliver the other day never used it before and I got sick and drowsy at first and then I was full of energy.. They call these patches a synthetic heroine...

To the dude who said there still Is drug left In his patch After 8 days = has got to be on Another drug!!! NO NO NO WAY Is there Anything left in your patch after a few hours Of chewing it !! How big is Your piece your chewing, even Know that does Not matter!!! You also said even after 4 days NEVER HEARD ANYTHING SO STUPID ON HERE TILL YOUR POST. hahahaha. I been on as well for yrs and I can ONLY WISH A PIECE WOULD STILL BE GOOD AFTER 4 of 8 days S your trying to tell The ppl here.

EXAMPLE: If you cut a 25 in 1/2 then that 12 mcg Patch would ONLY LAST about 2 hours at the MOST & NOT 4 to 8 days!! From 100 patch I get 5 to 10 pieces. Which I can and Do chew 1 piece every 2 hours Or so!!!! And that my friend is me chewing a 100 patch A DAY !!! And Nothing left In ANY OF THE PIECES !!!

So IF YOUR NEW to chewing and IF YOU HAVE A 50 patch then you should get at Least 4 pieces from it. So every 6 hours OR So you WOULD remove and chew a New piece. ALWAYS DEPENDS on how Big you make Your pieces. AGAIN IF YOUR NEW you should Maybe Wear it and ONLY Cut 1 or 2 pieces off And try and see how long it will last YOU. JUST BE CAREFULL TILL you KNOW WHAT you can HANDLE. OR DO NOT CHEW!! YES YES YES Very easy you CAN O.D.

Please please please please BE Careful with how ever you take it. When in doubt DO NOT CHEW, WEAR IT.

I finally couldn't take it anymore. The constant work associated with maintaining a supply of opiates finally pissed me off enough to quit it all.

I switched to oral fentanyl for a solid 2 weeks after being on methadone for quite a while.
Methadone is actually pretty good. Low abuse potential and it keeps you from WDing in between doses. Very steady.
I went to oral fentanyl due to its extremely short 1/2-life. So I could enter WD very quickly and successfully take suboxone.
I endured precipitated WD off methadone a couple years ago....OMG, that was the worst week of my life I think?
I used to go back and forth from Fentanyl to Buprenorphine often. Precipitated WD events would only last about an hour. It was a hell of an hour though.

This time, when I took the Suboxone, I simply stayed deep in WD. It didn't work like it used to.
I think Im just way too dependent/tolerant to opiates for the suboxone to make up for how sick I am.
I've been withdrawing since last Thursday (6 days). I fell asleep last nite for the 1st time since then (~5 hours).

I've been hurting so ********* bad for too long. Its day 6 and I still can hardly even stand up for long. I can't rest still either though. Makes me feel like I'm losing my mind. Sometimes I just have to scream. I thought about what it would be like to just die and have it all stop....

I just took 30 mgs of methadone while on suboxone. Now I feel fine! So friggin' happy. This is the first time I haven't wanted to die in almost a week.

People will tell you that it's pointless to even take opiates when youre taking suboxone, cuz they won't have any effect.
Wrong. 30 mgs methadone took away my WD like magic.

Suboxone just blocks/occupies most of your opiate receptors....most, but never ALL. There were still PLENTY left to allow methadone to work.

Steve, I saw that you're here b/c of Lyme dz. Sucks man, I know the deal.
I started treatment in 2005. I stopped abx about 2010. I didn't relapse....yet. I'm OK though....save a HUGE moment to moment requirement for opiates to keep me from falling in.
I'm detoxing as I write this. I'm in day 6 now....taking Suboxone, but it doesn't even come close to working on me.

Careful, you CAN get too opiate dependent so that suboxone won't work. I never even considered that since hardcore heroin addicts successfully avoid WD by using suboxone.
I never thought that I could possibly be more opiate tolerant than those who are heavy heroin users. Here I am though...

Pinky the uneducated Moron that thinks a Pharmacist(myself) that knows a lot about pain because I've been through it & am on Fentanyl on the skin worn the maximum lasting effect although diminished after 3 days stay in the system for 8. Fentanyl also is the strongest opiate with the lowest half life

Fentanyl is strong (about 80 x's that of morphine), but Carfentanil is way stronger.

Carfentanil is 10,000 x's the potency of morphine.

I would highly recommend NOT to chew this patch. Somebody gave me one 100 mg fentanyl patch and I opened it up and ate the gel out of it, only half. THat was at 9 am and by 9:30 I was on a gurney on my way to the hospital because I stopped breathing and turned blue. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would almost die. And I told the girl that sold me the patch that, and she told me that she had more and wanted me to buy them after I almost died. Thats how much people care about you. Its all about the money to them. Drug dealers could care less if you live or die. So please please do not do this. It is so dangerous. Save a life, probably your own and just don't do it. Please!!
