Is It Okay To Chew A Fentanyl 50mg Pain Patch? (Page 30)

I've been prescribed fentanyl 50mg pain patches and i was just wondering if it's okay to cut one in half an chew on it?

Renee exactly...it just makes ya mad..and we go in 4 r refills and we do things right! but u still feel diff now than at least I did 5 or more yrs ago it just seems different now. IdK I just know I've had to do a lot more testing and all sorts of things over the past couple years that I never had to do b4 because addicts r getting so bad with these things..and they have to look at us all like we may possible have a problem now..Just is super annoying and sucks so much more now..I see how much harder and more to the extreme they r on watching us now..all cause of the addicts.. I see it and feel bad 4 them but I also know the effect that it has on me so I become more angry 4 sure..just not cool.

I agree with you! My doctors do pill counts twice a month. They just started this 6 months ago. My doctor also does monthly drug panels every month!! And they made me sign a form that I can NOT drink any alcohol ever, yes they check it every 2 weeks when they do pill counts. They also require me to have a driver to bring me to every visit, because they said if I am taking my meds as prescribed then I should not be driving while taking meds... So I have to follow my doctors orders or I am out! I am truly in pain and have no choice in the matter. My doctor told me the DEA was cracking down on them so there cracking down on DRUG ABUSERS!!!! So see things will never get better, just alot worse.... My doctor told me that the DEA was fixing to start a new program that all medical doctors will follow and they guarantee a decrease in abusing prescription drugs.. I guess I will follow those rules too!!

I hate when people use the word Junkie, how f****** dare you. I'm 50 years old and I have spinal cancer. You tell me will you get off judging me or anybody else for that matter but I'm sure you're not on this site looking for something to do and if you are do it somewhere else.

Harry I am or others r not talking about u with real issues it's the people that get med for maybe a lot less of a reason than u or I..But my issue is when they take 30 days worth in 10 days and do crazing things to feel high not just be able to have a day u can get thru... instead of 1 pill they will take 5 and that's what makes it a pain for people who take it regularly for pain and do it as close to on the $ as u can..but not this 5 or a hand full to get loaded it's bad when u get to that point u must admit..I live on pain killers for sure to manage pain and to have half a life..but not to get loaded up and falling asleep in mid speech cause they r so messed up like I have seen that's all..we are just saying come on do it right if u can't get some help or u will be dead and what good is that..u make it harder on us and u wasted ur what should've been a special life. Just sayin..but that's just that end of it it can get real bad for people and they can't do it for the right reasons..only for the high that's the diff...when u just do it to feel high and screw up the system which now is a lot harder not just for them but everyone it's a pain.

Just had a major surgery. Took 4 oxy 20mg every 4 hours till gone. about 125 10mg oxys total. It's been a little over a week since I've taken them and I just finished going through a bit of withdrawal. My lower back hurts so bad I can't stand for more then 10 minutes without needing the lay down flat. I have some leftover 75mcg fentanyl patches from previous surgeries and was hoping to use them for relief but my tolerance is none where near what it was when I was prescribed these bad boys. Last time I applied one I had just left a 3 day trip to the ER and was up to 2.5mg of iv dilaudid every 4 hours. Sent home with oxy 10's that weren't working and finally seen an advanced pain management doctor who suggested the patches. After about a day or two of nausea from the patch strength and still having the pain (major ulcerative colitis pain not the current back pain) I went back to er and ended up having my colon removed. That's a long story but after my 2nd of a 3 part surgery this back pain is unmanageable. I'm assuming it's surgery related but either way I need to be able to stand. I don't want to die from these patches that I know for sure so is it possible to cut these into 1/4's and stick them on? Pretty sure they aren't the gel patches as they seem to be just plain plastic. Pretty clear and almost makes me wonder how anything is even inside them so I'd say they aren't gel. I wanted to chew a piece but after reading all kinds of different posts on different sites that won't be happening. Got 2 little ones and being found dead tomorrow morning can't happen. Don't want to feel like I'm going to die with the whole thing on either so what should I do? I also can't have a 1/4 patch fall off my skin if cutting them makes them not stick well. My daughter will eat just about anything including cat litter pieces in the hallway so uh uh. Any help is appreciated. I'd rather lay on my back till I can see my pcp for some ir pills if push came to shove.

My dear you should tell your doctor!! Just saying, People will give you all kinds of suggestions but if there on here posting comments about you cutting or chewing a pain patch then you run your own risk of being harmed.. You should NEVER treat a new medical condition with old meds from a past medical issue.. If you value your life please go see your doctor.. I am serious! I am not sure if you care to read my comment but I guess I care about a human life... Please please see your doctor, there could be something else going on that may require a different type of treatment... Good Luck..

Yeh bud if u just had surgery and only a week out you r still in a ton of pain...ur doc should help u out...sounds like u took what u had as directed and it wasn't enough...4 sure call him ASAP aND see what happens...hope he helps u...n problem solved...if not we'll then that's up2u bud...pain is no fun...just hope after All u went thru n surgery u can get some relief good luck and explain it's really bad and pain is just too much....

If you are going to do it, that is consume fentanyl patches orally. Don't effing chew on the thing. Simply, suck on it for like 30 seconds. Chewing it will break off chunks of the gel on your teeth and then it gets dissolved into your mouth; you have no way of controlling quantity. Also if you are going to ingest it orally at least try to do the right thing and where it for 3 to 5 days. If it falls off simply lick and stick it back on. Throw some duck tape over it and you can continue to use it as prescribed longer than the 72 hours. Good luck. Again, just don't chew or eat it. You want control.

I am so sorry to hear of your pain. My sister has suffered from a unsuccessful spinal surgery for 8 years. She has been in pain physically that only those who suffer from the same can understand. It resulted in deteriating her quality of life to where she put a fentynal patch in her mouth for an escape. The coroner said that she probably died within a half hour due to the effect to her lungs. She was a beautiful sweet woman, a widowed mother of a 16 year old boy. Please be careful, I now have a better understanding of the type of pain you live with every minute, I don't know how you can stand it, but I sincerely hope you are able to get some relief so you can enjoy a beautiful life.

Not all patches are gel. That s why some people say they chem them because they are a very then layer of medicine on the patch that goes in at a rate of 48%, 41%, and the 3rd day 11%. That is why so many dr. Give a 48 hour script instead of a 72 hour. But again these are just as dangerous and should never be chewed!

You might have felt good this time, next time you won't be so lucky! My son died one after his 30th. birthday. His 4 year old daughter and myself found him in the bathroom ! Please if you value your life and your family's, please ,please use as directed by your doctor!

I down to my last 25 mcg/h patch from 120 30mgs oxycodone and 50mcg/h every 48hrs. Can't find a doc to see me before June. Many stopped taking my ins.like my last past doc. I lost them due to wanting to be off the patch so I weaned down to this and hopefully I'll be okay for court on Monday (not my case but a friend) doc n I talked it over and agreed to cut it in half to 25 but when she said three days, I said 'sure' thinking same as before: put on one day, keep on next day and take off the third day! She meant 72 hours and I freaked knowing I would skip seeing them a month waiting for my ins. change. Nurse kept asking her for early refill which I DID NOT ask for and that helped get me dismissed. No oxy in urine helped further. I went from 50 every 48 hrs.down to one patch every other week! Yes I used the oxy to accomplish that but now know I can get by without the patch! Happy 420 to y'all in legal states. Might be time to break a few laws....but will wait till I finish buccing a piece of my last patch

I just started taking the Fentanyl patch 75mcg as I was taking methadone which truly helped my severe and chronic neck pain resulting from a surgery in 1998 but they said all my disks were smashed so they had to put in a steel prosthesis. I think my pain is being caused by the prosthesis and you can't heal steel. My Blue Cross-Blue Shield will only pay for 4 methadone pills/day when I was taking 11, though I never took all 11 as we're a small town and the Pharmacy has run out of pills many times. Because my insurance won't pay, I'm having to start all over figuring out a new pain regimen. My Valium and hydrocodone don't work as well as they used to as I've taken them for almost 12 years. I was wondering what you use for break through pain given my hydrocodone barely phases me anymore.
