I've been prescribed fentanyl 50mg pain patches and i was just wondering if it's okay to cut one in half an chew on it?

I HAVE BEEN ON THE FENTANYL PATCH FOR OVER 4 YEARS, AND IT'S A VERY STRONG PATCH. I AM ON TEH 75 MG PATCH AND EVERYTIME I PUT A NEW ONE ON I GET VERY LIGHT HEADED. I DON'T THINK IT'S SAFE TO CHEW IT, EVEN FOR SOMEONE LIKE ME WHO HAS BUILD UP A TOLERANTS FOR IT. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFULLY WITH IT, BECAUSE IT COUL CAUSE DEATH EASILY AND I KNOW YOU HAVE LOVE ONES WHO DON'T WANT TO LOSE YOU.

"People selling it" I sincerely hope you mean the pharmaceutical companies making millions of dollars a year. They know how often this drug is abused, they do not care. No one is stealing these drugs from manufacturers. Educating your children is the best defense for drugs. Someone will always be willing to sell you something that will kill you. Often its legal. You can't really blame others for your over dose, except maybe your personal physician, even then IMO, you should do your own research. S***, the FDA gets things wrong far too often.

Thank you to all you people out there that posted it is okay to chew fentanyl patches,My beloved son started stealing my patches and chewing them because ya'll led him to believe it was okay. His father and step dad passed away 11months apart which led to severe depression. He now is dealing with depression and addiction which may take his life. He was a straight A student with dreams of being a doctor. Now thanks thanks to these comments our family has hit rock bottom. I hope you can sleep at night cause God knows I cant watching over my son 24 hrs a day so he doesnt die. He is 20 therefore i cant have him admitted and he sees nothing wrong with what he is doing with the patches. Again thanks and i hope you never have children and have to live with this fear. I WILL PRAY FOR YOU PEOPLE!

I have read so much on the net about how people are misusing this drug in its patch form. I guess I just don't get how anyone can misuse it with exception of eating one of them...Mine are 100 MCG (none Jelly form) every hour for 3 days now you do the math. That is alot of the medicine held in that patch. its also has the glue to hold it in place mixed with the medicine. the Glue alone can cause side effects if ingested. I cannot see how anyone can smoke it because the plastic part and the glue part would just melt. And chewing one would make a person very ill or even cause death.. I also know no matter how many people tell a person who is addicted to any drug or even Alcohol they need to stop, they will never stop till they are ready to and that they are stopping for themselves. There will always be people who abuse Medications. I want to tell them if you are going to misuse a drug be very careful. That is for any drug that is prescribed or is an elicit drug that is illegal. You can end up DEAD. Stay Safe. Please if you want to tell me how you are abusing a trans-dermal Fentanyl Patch please do. I want to say I truly believe that one day I will not be able to get my medication because too many people are abusing it. And for myself and all the rest of the Chronic Pain survivors that absolutely need this medication it is so unfair to us. BUT LIFE IS NOT FAIR.

I'm not gonna lecture you on abusing pain killers but I'll let you know patches are strong so be carefull. i have a super Hugh tolerance to opiates and I chewed a 50mcg and was f***ed up lol depending on you tolorence you should be ok cutting it in half. And if it doesn't do nothing wait 4 hours and try the whole 50. But do NOT chew a 75mcg I almost od on that one. And if you got a bunch of patches and been chewing them for a week your tolerance is gonna be super high and the withdrawals gonna be rough I know from experience haha so space it out to avoid bad withdrawal and BE CAREFUL abusing opiates is never safe but were do it anyways so I'm just sharing some if my knowledge so that whoever reads this can do it safe as possible as abusing opiates can be lol

Can you chew a new patch ..Or does it have to be used I'm hearing so many different ways and my "friend" don't wanna do it the wrong way please help ... don't want to withdraw :-( have a 100m patch I never took one
but prescribed oxy 30m 4day for years I been on them and I need sometjing to get by till Friday. .. thank you in advance. ..Tiff...

Thank you? I also unfortunately have a high tolerance with opiates! ! Ii coyld eat n insufflate 6~8 Roxy30 within an hr ..now I have 100mcg mallinckrodt patch can I cut it in fours and chew a 25mg ? N now I heard it has to be used? Ew I don't wanna put it on my skin I wanna feel high now n now withdraw and get by till Friday.. pretty sad I know. ..could ya help me out ?

Tammy, I understand being angry and wanting to shift blame to others when a loved one passes in this way. If there is a will there's a way. If he was Committed to getting blasted , and as high as he could, nothing anyone said here or anyone else is to blame for his death. A simple Google search gives all you need. I hope you find peace and I am sorry for your loss.

you people need to stop complaining abour your pain and do something about it if you doctor won't. maybe one you will realize they don't care about you, in this filthy, corrupt land rule by greed you call amercian, people become doctors for the money. and couldn't care any less about you.

It took me a week driving around south Florida trying to get my Fentanyl prescription filled. These pharmacists are sociopaths. My orthopedic diagnosed me disabled three years ago and wants me off my feet as much as possible. When I win my disability case I'm moving to France. France has the best medical care. These pharmacists have me running all over town lying to my face that they are out of pain meds, they discontinued that brand, etc. The are given the federal right to discriminate patients. LISTEN....DISABILITY PAYMENTS ARE AN ENTITLEMENT. Okay? When you turn 62 you lose it. Why work some dead - end job the rest of your life when you can retire in the next few years? There is enough money put away to survive 50 million Americans on disability. Get all your medical records together and a disability lawyer....you will thank me later. You worked hard in life. Now it's time to reward yourself. You might die before you are 62. I'm returning the favor...Please do the same for someone else...If we don't help each other out, who will?

Hmmm, I guess every one needs someone to blame. It's a shame that horrible parenting was already taken by your own isn't it? It's beyond laughable that you think a fourum board is single handedly responsible for the poor choices your son makes... who might I add,more than likely spent the majority of his adolescent years under your own, personal, supervision...I am 21 years old and even I know that At the end of the day we are all responsible for the choices we make, now, weather or not we as young adults have been instilled with the moral fiber, self respect, and plain common sense to do so.... Well, that's where you can take that finger.... And point it right back around at yourself mom. I'll pray for you, and your son. Allah be with you.

They get whats coming to them bro, I know a drug dealer who is in jail and when his wife picked up the family business she drove into a steel pole and died on impact. if i were to sell drugs i would only sell marijuana and DMT. those are the only things that cant make you freak out or die. p.s. thanks everyone for the advice on not chewing or screwing around with these. i will continue to use as directed on the package.

I am pain patient, Oxys but out for 2 days had a 75 mcg fentanyl patch , cut in 1/2 put on hip and took off 5 min later. Will I be ok ? Frightened now !!!

Glad to hear you took it off. I am thinking you did not aquire this from your Dr. Please do not do it again. If you are in need of any stronger pain meds, see your Dr. I have been wearing Fentanyl patches for 8 years and would not consider adjusting the prescription in any way without my Dr's advice. Fentanyl is a very dangerous medication and needs respect.
