Is It Okay To Chew A Fentanyl 50mg Pain Patch? (Page 11)

I've been prescribed fentanyl 50mg pain patches and i was just wondering if it's okay to cut one in half an chew on it?

Ppl like me is taking to relieve my pain Quicker And NOT NOT NOT I REPEAT NOT TO GET HIGH !!!!!!!!!!! This works in the same way as the new Patches that are out. You stick onto your Inside mouth and stick onto your Cheek till it DISOLVES !!! Again there for me is NO NO NO NO NO Getting HIGH !!! You don't know me, you don't know OR Feel MY EVRRYDAY PAINS YES PAIN with an S At the End of Pain !! Wearing releases only so much an hour. Chewing Just releases quicker and lasts about 3 Hours per piece. By the way AGAIN they Make them to be inserted in your Mouth NOW !! They are just NOT YET Available In Canada. Or I WOULD Be asking My Dr To change me from wearing mine to Sticking in MY MOUTH PPL Comment BUT HAVE NO IDEA who They are replying to or that person. Such As You To My Comment But that's fine. Cause I know I take mine For pain & I don't have to answer to no one !! I know my pain ( s ) are real And I know how much , how big and how Often to insert patch into my own Mouth ! Thanks for your Concern for the ppl who Read this though. Your RIGHT. ppl Should NOT just start chewing their patches Meant to be Worn !!!! This Is just how I do it and how it's Better for me. Your Concern for others Here IS Awsome.

FINALLY Someone who KNOWS what Am Talking about. !! Sorry to hear about Your Pains as I do know the feelings. But those Ppl at the Forum accusing me of abusing To get high is so wrong ! I live In Canada and IF we had the lollipop here OR the patch you insert in your mouth I WOULD be getting one of them for my Pains. But either way I THANK YOU For Knowing & Understanding where I Am Coming from. Nice to see someone on here Who REALLY DOES KNOW, understand And HAS A CLUE About chewing and WHY I Chew and am not against it. Thanks my Friend. Thanks.

Chronicpain101 Is so Right on with EVERYTHING HE/she Is saying. As With Chronic I also know my Pain, my body, my Limit !! I actually am Not chewing on the patch. I keep it mostly Under my tongue. It is that this way I get much Better relieve. I get 1x 100 AND 1x50 A Day. YES A DAY. I CUT pieces and change Every 2 to 3 hours. As that's about how long each patch will Last "ME" & MY PAIN I am also only back here cause I get emails Saying about comments. Usually I don't Bother. Today I decided to come and see. I use for pain and for the last and Final Time NOT TO GET HIGH !!!!!!! For MY "Pain" Hope you all have, get OR Find relieve for Your Pains !!! I have my 1 st morning piece In my mouth Now And I still have PAIN And This shows you all you do build a tolerance To these also. If they work on your body KEEP WEARING THEM AND DON'T THINK ABOUT CHEWING THEM. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE WITH YOUR PAIN !!!!!!

MCL I DON'T GIVE A S*** WHO YOU ARE OR WHAT YOU KNOW OR TAKE/WEAR. EVEN IF IT STAYS IN SYSTEM FOR 8 (haha) Days as you say. WTF. IT'S NOT NOT NOT NOT STOPPING PAIN AFTER 72 Hours Tops. I take everyday 150 = 1x100 + 1x50 And still have pain. Have high tolerance Yes. But wearing does NOT STOP MY PAIN. CHEWING RELEASES QUICKER AND LASTS 2 And 1/2 to 3 hours Top Till I CHEW ANOTHER PIECE !!!! You think you know so much WHY CAUSE YOU READ BOOKS AND WENT TO SCHOOL TO LEARN ABOUT DRUGS !!!!!! WOWWIEEEE. Who cares. It's the pain ppl have, feel Whatever. I am sick of you running your pie hole off If they had lollipops here in Canada by God I would BE SUCKING ON ONE OF THEM SO WTF IS the Difference mr know it all ?? WHAT NOW eh ???? Suck OR Chew = who cares. WHAT EVER HELPS MY PAIN THE BEST !! God Bless the Rest of you pain sufferers.

@Barry I am in agreement with you, ami saying its safe to chew or eat? No. The thing about Fentynol is it DANGEROUS for ppl who have no opiod tolerance. I for them reasons am prescribed the 50mcg patch. It seems like either young ones are getn these and thinking theyre like vicodin. I think that's why a lot of young ones are being ost, also most ppl who are oD are the ones who are not prescribed this drug. Also I have heard of most death occurring because the person was shooting this drug in their veins!!! That's what gives it a bad name. but allover this site there are ppl in legitimate pain ,not being treated right. Ihave jut in the last year began to have my pain treated. (and be respected by my docs etc.) It took time to earn this trust. I do not get drug tested neither, (no reason for me to) but I go see my docs 1-2 times a week. They can tell who s an addict and who's not. Who shows up for therapy appts, not just follow up meds appointments. On top of my diagnosis, honesty and real need of help, I am blessed I have insurance that pays everything. Im in a ggod place which I have struggled with suicide for 2 years without meds!! I don't plan to screw his up!! I am sorry to all of you who have lost your loved ones....Awareness and understanding and talking to them about drugs all drugs!!(our youth, nieces ,nephews, our own childen especially!!)

I am a terminally ill person. There is a big difference between addiction and physical dependency. A person that is dependent for pain relief can use the medication as directed by the doctor. An addict can not. They must take more and more. True pain is the anecdote for addiction. This is what is known as opium toletance; the ability to take as directed by the doctor. Eating a pain patch is abusing the drug. Opium intolerance is taking more than directed.

Not good idea. Need more than an opioid tolerance. The patch with reservoir will ruin your liver quickly. The one with glue will be wasted. I always wonder if I am replying to a dead person when I see questions of this nature.

I cut a 50mcg into four pieces, chew on it until you start to feel it then take it out asap because it will get stronger even after you take it out. I cchew on the same piece two times until I move on to a fresh one. I'll chew one quarter until like I said I feel it and it lasts 3-4 hours. I've been doing it for years. Dont listen to the haters that prolli never experienced real pain.

it can be dangerous i agree but in moderate i wore a 100 mcg patch for 3 days and im on methadone 60mg.i ran out of meth and was sick so i ate most of the used patch i had on for 3 days and felt so good that day no withdrawl just an energenic itchy day.if you have low tolerance please dont follow my advice i have a high tolerance

Definitely. NO! No! NO!

My question is why would you? If you are using these legitimately why ask. They are prescribed to be used as directed. I have been on fentanyl 125. for seven years and have never heard of anyone suggesting this at all.

I have read here how people are chewing or putting under their tongue to get the drug faster to relieve pain faster. Why not discuss your pain management with your Dr? Pain can be controlled without putting your life at risk.

You're so right. I couldn't believe what I was reading either. I'm a PPMS, S1 root disorder and I also IC and chronic pain patience. The people who abuse the pain meds, do make it hard on us who truly do suffer and need them. We are look down upon. I've just had the spinal cord implant surgery and one of the cables move and can't use it as it is intended to be used. It makes me sick when I see other people abusing narcotic. I was an EMT and Nurse for a Level 1Trauma hospital and I would see all kinds of people and it was hard on me when I would see people come in and they're an OD pt. Makes me wonder what they must have been going thru on a psychic and emotional level. Could they be helped? Be careful and it isn't great being a chronic pain pt. I'm knowledge in meds and I'm even too scared to test the med combination. I hate being on so much meds and I was 40 when DX with MS and my life changed from that day forward and I like being in control of myself so, I completely understand with you comment. I could hear and feel your pain, doc.Good for you for speaking up too. I wish there were more dr's being involved. God bless you!

I totally agree with you and it is sad to say the least. I'm a chronic ill also. It make me sick to read some of these post. Here I wish I didn't have to take pain meds, but I have to. I can assure you I don't abuse my meds. and I have to take them with my disease that I suffer with it.. I'm so sorry you must suffer. and thank you for speaking out.

Right now I am so angry at those of you that are suggesting ......because those of us who use Fentanyl as directed, use it as prescribed have no idea what pain is.

You have no right to judge someone else's pain. You have absolutely no idea how much pain anyone else has. Pain is a personal reaction. We are all different and our ability to tolerate pain is different in every one of us.

Please do not use us as an excuse to use fentanyl inappropriately. To do this because you have more pain and we have no idea of pain.than the rest of us.

Myself or anyone else cannot judge your pain level. That is your own, you own it.

If you choose to risk your life and use drugs inaccurately, that is your choice. There are better ways of controlling pain.

Whatever. No one is asking you !! My pain is real : Chronic back pain , fibromyalgia. Osteoarthritis , Plantar Fasittiss , carpal tunnel, swelling Of many body parts= hands mostly Shall I Go On????????? I take 1x 150 A Day of fentanyl patch. If I wear or chew its up to me. No one else !! I know what I can and can not handle. I do NOT NOT NOT Get High. Some days that's NOT Enough for me !! Yes. Not enough. !! I do NOT ABUSE MY MEDS I USE FOR MY MANY many pains. !!! We DO build A tolerance of course. That's just the way it is. Not our fault ! I chew and I do know it works better lasts Longer and I know how much to Cut and for how long b4 my next piece. So IF you know NOTHING About chewing Other than what you read Or heard, then You know NOTHING !!!!! Ppl who OD On chewing didn't take the time To feel it out OR they are drug Addicts.
