In The System How Long?

Updated

A pain contol doctor did a drug test. Said I had cocaine in my system and I have never ever tried/used/inhaled it ever. But I'm on Fentanyl 50 mg patc and I don't always remember to change it every 3 days. That showed up NEGATIVE on the test. That should have been positive and the cocaine negative. How long does fentanyl stay in the urine? I swear they mixed it up. Since I have never had cocaine and I have fentanyl patch.

SOMETHING SOUNDS STRANGE? A TEST THAT DOCTORS USE ARE 99% ACCURATE. THE PATCH STAYS IN YOUR SYSTEM FOR 16 HOURS AFTER REMOVAL. I HAVE NO CLUE WHY YOU TESTED POSITIVE FOR COCAINE. THE DOCTOR COULD RUN A BLOOD TEST IF YOU ASK. BUT SOMETHING JUST DOESNT SOUND RIGHT. GOOD LUCK TO U !!

The patch can stay in your system much longer than that, medications have a certain half-life, then diminishing time and the length can depend on how long you have been on it, so saying exactly 16 hours is NOT accurate.

These types of tests do not usually distinguish between the types of drugs, they only test for certain classes of drugs, IE: they can tell you have taken narcotics, but not which ones!

Thanks for the replies. I went and ha a drug test and cocaine was negative. I WILL take that to my doctor (who cancelled my next appointment) But they didn't do a direct fentanyl test. I would need to go to a bigger lab. But I know that wasn.t my test results.

TO VERWON; I AM NOT TRYING TO JUST MAKE A STAEMENT. ANYONE CAN CALL THE MAKER OF THE PATCH THEIR ON- THE PHONE NUMBER IS INSIDE THE SMALL BOOKLET. THEY SAY AFTER REMOVAL- THE PATCH IS OUT OF YOUR SYSTEM AFTER 16 HOURS( I AM ONLY GOING BY INFO GIVEN TO ME BY THE MAKER OF THE PATCH I TAKE) MY DOCTORS OFFICE DOES HAVE A TEST TO IDENTIFY THE DRUGS IN YOUR SYSTEM.( IF YOU WANT TO VERIFY THIS, MAKES SOME CALLS TO AT LEAST A COUPLE PHARMACYS. I AM JUST PASSING ON INFO THAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD. MAYBE CERTAIN STATES ARE DIFFERENT? THAT COULD BE TRUE. BUT IN THE STATE I LIVE DOCTORS ARE VERY STRICT ON GIVEN OUT NARCOTICS & THEY DO DRUG TEST SO THE PEOPLE THAT NEED IT MOST GET IT, A LOT OF PEOPLE( IN THIS STATE) HAVE REALLY ABUSED THE SYSTEM & I HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE DOCTORS- I AM IN FAVOR OF DRUG TESTING PAIN MANGEMENT PATIENTS. SOME PEOPLE MAY DISAGREE- THAT RIGHT THERE OPENS A GOOD DISCUSSION IF YOUR TAKEN YOUR MEDICATION AS DIRECTED YOU SHOULD'NT THINK ITS WRONG TO DRUG TEST. SOME DOCTORS ARE PUTTING THERE LICENSE ON THE LINE TO HELP PEOPLE WITH CHRONIC PAIN. WITHOUT PAIN MANGEMENT SOME PEOPLE CAN'T GET OUT OF BED OR LEAVE THEIR OWN HOUSE. CHRONIC PAIN IN TIME STARTS TO PLAY OR YOUR MIND. SO IF YOUR IN CHRONIC PAIN & CAN FIND A DOCTOR TO HELP YOU TO MAINTAIN A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE- JUST FOLLOW ALL ORDERS GIVEN BY YOUR DOCTOR & YOU WONT HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT-(TESTING FOR DRUGS) GOOD LUCK TO ALL WHO SUFFER THIS HORRIBLE PAIN- MAY YOU FIND A GREAT DOCTOR- & GOD BLESS ALL YOU READERS.

It is very likely that the lab contaminated your sample or that there was an error( or errors). No test is 100 percent accurate, and human error is also a factor. Like you, I had been tested according to my pain mgmt MD's protocol. I experieced TWO errors on two seperate occasions - once a false negative: the drug I was regularly taking according exactly as prescribed did not show up in my test, despite the fact I was taking it! The second error was also similar to your experience: I received a false positive for a drug I was not taking (in fact, I'm allergic to it as well, so taking it would do me harm). These tests were using urine samples, which were sent out to a lab, and the tests occurred on completely separate occasions about 1 year apart. I'm convinced that the failure rate/relability of these tests can be questioned based on variability in patients' ability to metabolize medications (for false negatives), and various other factors like hydration, etc. As for the false positives, they are either statistically part of the failure rate and / or are related to poor sample handling techniques, sample labeling issues, human error and cross-contamination of the samples. Ask to be re-tested and demand info about the lab, their failure rates, etc. The consequences of errors are too serious to just accept them without question-especially when you KNOW they are wrong! Good luck.

How long would it take for 15 mg of Methadone for 2 days to get out of your system ? If I took 15mg on Thurs and Friday, then took a panel test on Tuesday the following week, would it be okay? I understand they look for 300 mg/ml on the test.

I applied a fentanel patch of 12 mg last Wednesday. It is now Sunday and I have removed it die to the chance of a Pre-employment drug screen coming up in the next few days. Will it show up and will it show up as Fentanyl or just as an opiate in general I am taking a legitimate prescription by my doctor and can back at it up. However, the fentanyl patch has been given to me from a family members. I am worried about not getting a job offer, taking an employment drug test and coming up dirty. I am desperate for answers. Please help!

I have a similar horrific life altering situation and I don't know what to do. I went into the emergency room for broncitihis..they told me I tested positive for cocain when I have never used cocain in my life. It also showed that the oxycodone in which I had taken minutes before the ambulance came to transport me, for severe rhuematory arthritis, was not in my system. Of course my pain management doctor dropped me..no questions asked. I am one of those who can't get out of my bed or leave the house without my meds. And unfortunatl I am supposed to be caring for my mother who is dying of cancer and have found myself very little help to her. I am screaming for advice..so that I can spend the last days with my Mommy. What do I do? Make a complaint with the hospital? Hire a lawyer I can't afford..my name needs to be cleared and I need my meds. Somebody help me

Rachel, I 1st want to say how sorry I am to hear of your plight, I don;t know where u r from, but there are quite a few pain clinics around. You could ask your pcp to recommend you. Problem being do u reveal the past. I have a 60 year history of addiction with very real pain issues. I was lucky enough that my pcp listened to my history looked at all my med records, had me sign a pain contract anf for the past 10 years I have never messed up by asking for xtras to replace those pills that fell in the toilet or down the drain, a common b.s. story used by addicts. So here are two options a pcp who cares, believes and trusts u, and if they take the chance dont let them down cause u get 1 chance only. The 2nd is you need to find a pain clinic that doesn;t charge $200 for a 10 minute script visit and then you have to pay close to $1,000 for your pain script. Any insurance co that refuses to pay is because they know the clinic is a b.s. place. Your pcp will direct you to a legit place and then the insurance will pay. Dam I truly hope that your pcp cares enough to help you but unfortunately thanks ato my way old addiction that started as a teen is what has brought on the dilema most of you are suffering now. If I could undo what I did, well I would have a life that maybe be helping folks like you and I am truly sorry for the road I chose to start my life on. God Speed.

This is really true. My doctor runs a urine on me and it tested for all. the medication I am prescribed plus test for all street drugs such as cocaine, marijuana, heroin and any anything else you can think of. I also to go pain management they send my test to Quest labs and it said that I had nothing in my urine but Vicodin and I don't even use it. I am allergist to it and morphine. they would not retest it so I got booted out for that reason. That sounds exactly what happened to me. You cant fight the system. it really sucks
