Ic Gabapentin 300 Mg Bladder Side Effects

I take 100 ic gabapentin 3 times/day for sciatica. Now I find that my bladder leaks about once a week which is unnerving. Has this been reported as a side effect?

Didn't give enough information about my bladder leakage. The leakage is small and occurs in my sleep.

Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant that has also been proven to help with certain types of nerve pain.

This is not listed among the normal side effects, which may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and weight gain.

Have not talked to doctor about occasional bladder leakage while sleeping since starting Gabapentin. I would like to know if any other persons who take this drug have had this experience. Let me kinow. Thanks

Having the same problem. My doc said it wasn't related......bull! It is absolutely related cause I have never had bladder leakage until I started the drug. Don't let the doc's convince you its mot a side effect. It is a side effect - it's just not listed on the drug pamphlet!

It is interesting that people here have all reported that bladder leakage has started when taking this drug. I did stop taking it and the night time bladder leakage stopped. This is not valid research, but it seems valid to for me.

Ginger ... I have had the same thing happen 3 times since I've been on 100mg of Gabapentin for sciatica. I think it's the absolute cause because I've never had this happen before. Mine hasn't been while sleeping, but during the day, I'll get just a few drops in my panties and wonder what the heck happened.

I am on 1200mg a day and I had this problem but now it has become worse and the dr also said it is not related well I am 32 years and never had this problem before I started taking this medicine. I am also being treated for back problems.

I was on 1200mg/day for nystagmus from MS. I also take Detrol for an overactive bladder (again, MS related). The Gabapentin fixed the nystagmus, but it became impossible to pee, no matter how much I drank. At the same time, I had some leakage. Stopped the Gabapentin, now I can pee again, and the leakage has stopped. And the nystagmus is back. :-(

I am having the feeling of having to go to the bathroom all the time. I have went from 100mg to 200mg for Neuropathy. I hate this feeling and am on Vesicare but it does not seem to work. I think I will stop the Gabapentin and deal with the pain rather than have my bladder control my life. Thank you for you info.

I had a total knee replacement in March 2013. This is one of the meds my doc ordered. I have had the same problem with leakage. I get up to go to the restroom at night and before I get there, it's too late. I have just taken the my last dose so I think this issue will resolve itself. I might add that it only happened about 3 times, but that was 3 times too many

I just found this site when looking for side effects of gabapentin. I take two tabs of Narco for pain daily and 600 mg of gabapentin. Adding the gabapentin helped a lot for pain and restless legs which are extreme and have been daily for 20 years, getting worse as time goes by., The gabapentin helps a lot for the pain and I have been on even higher doses over the years off and on. I have had to add it again but will have to stop because of leg and feet swelling. However one side effect has been proven to me. I often cannot make it to the bathroom in time to urinate. I think it is either my bladder has become "weaker" or I do not notice the urge in time. I also have spells of not being able to fully empty my bladder. I just think the doctors should know Gabapentin definitely causes these side effects in me.

Everyone that's on 100mg or more of Gabapentin,allowed me to know my side effect aren't unrealistic for bladder symtoms.It's very irritating at times,so ill have to notify my doctor as soon as possible.Also experiencing chest pains.

I must say I have been taking Gabapentin and Seroquel for quite some time for my Bipolar illness and have had a serious case of overactive bladder for about 10 years now. I recently saw a Chinese herbalist in Chicago to help in offsetting this lingering side effect. I'm trying to keep my hopes up that I'll be totally cured of all ailments as I'm only 39 years of age.

I also take 1200 mg per day and am having problems with urination. I have leakage all the time. When I pee it comes out very slow and after I wipe I pee more. This is getting on my nerves. I have permeate nerve damage due to back problems. I don't know where to start with getting this taken care of.

I sarted a transdermal cream of gabapentin ~ 6 weeks ago. First, I noticed puffy eyes nearly every AM when up out of bed. Now, the past two nights, I notice frequent urination. I am fine, so far, during the day. But at night, I have the sensation in my bladder that I need to urinate ... nearly the whole night ... then when I do urinate, very little occurs. I think I would rather try a different pain remedy or live with my pain disorders symptoms than have lack of sleep, frequent need to urinate at night, and the feeling that my bladder is nearly constantly triggered at night.

And here I thought that it was just me and that I was loosing my mind. I am 37 with neuropathy and have not been making it to the bathroom (at night) on time when I am on the medication. (just about 15 steps away- really?) I was off the medicine for a brief time as they had me on pain medication post-op and had no issues. As soon as I started again- no time to make it to the bathroom! I researched and this situation is not listed as a side effect! They really need to investigate this- people feel like doctors do not believe them when they say it is the medication and so prescribe even more medication to help with that side effect.

I am like you, except the leakage is getting worse. It only does it at night to the point that I have a wear a depend. Went to my obgyn yesterday and she checked for a UTI, did not have one. I feel sure it is the Neurontin, which I plan to go off of.

I have been taking Gabapentin 600mgs three times a day for three months for severe osteoarthritis, I also have the same bladder symptoms as the other people, frequency and only just making it to the bathroom. Also symptoms of a urine infection, but UA showed no infection.. I can wake with urinary symptoms and then they go in a few hours. (symptoms of infection). I am weaning myself off Gabapentin at the moment, taking it slowly so as not to experience withdrawal effects i' will manage the pain in the same way as before.

Yes, I too have had bladder leakage with Neurontin. As a matter of fact, on 3 occasions I literally wet on my self at night. Never had it to happen before
going on Neurontin 2 pills twice daily.

I HAVE THE SAME ISSUES. I HAVE PAI, AND NEEDED TO SLEEP, IVE OTICED IT ALSO, AND I STOPPED FOR A FEW DAYS, AND IM NOT SURE WHATS WORSE THE BLADDER ISSUES /FEET ISSUES/MOODS OR THE PAIN. I WILL HAVE INSOMNIA IF I STOP NYONE ELSE PLEASE?? SO ITS A YES FOR ME TOO.

This happened to me too. I tapered off gabapentin and the problem went away. My pain doc never had heard of this particular side effect (bedwetting) but then another of his patients complained of it. He researched further and found that it is rare but real side effect. He is sharing this info with other docs.

I have been going nuts lately because I have to wear depends at night because I have been wetting the bed. I never suspected gabapentin was cause but it did start about the time I began taking 300 mg gabapentin 3 times daily. I am going to taper off of it and see what happens. It doesn't help my nerve pain much anyway and makes my mouth and throat completely dry and very uncomfortable. I'll post again and let you know if gabapentin was the problem.

I’ve been on Gabapentin 900 mgs/day for over 10 years, and I also have leakage problems. But I also have back problems. I’m not sure if it’s related or not, or if it is related to other medicines I take, or just old age. I’m 70 years old.

Yes. Since on gabapenten I have had bladder leakage problems. I have had csections for childbirth and full hysterectomy. Never had leaks u til gab. But I will put up with it keep some pain control and restless leg control .

Do you guys think it’s permanent? I took Gabapentin for a few years, but I stopped in 2018 because the daytime fatigue was crushing (I only took 600 mgs before bed, nothing during the day) and the urination is still ridiculous. I pee 10 -12 times before noon still. It slows down later so I stopped counting, but it’s ridiculous.

I started on 300mg 3 times a day had to stop when I retain fluid in feet. Doctor prescribed 100mg 3 times a day still retained fluid. I had an issue with bladder leaking it did stop once I stopped taking the medication. I can say it does help with the pain, which I could tolerate Gabapentin.

I’ve been on 600mg of Gabapentine for over 2 years for anxiety. I’ve never had any issues with bladder leaks. I do however drink over 32 oz if water a day just bcuz I love water. Plus I’m on several other meds for numerous mental illnesses that dry me out and allergy pills. Ironically I pee constantly. Maybe increase your water intake and see what happens- just a suggestion. Worth a try

This happens to me. It started when I was on Gabapentin but I stopped taking it a year or more ago and I still have very frequent and urgent need to pee, and it just falls out sometimes. I didn’t have kids and am not old enough to have this naturally.
