Does anyone know a doctor that is good about prescribing pain killers like hydrocodens 10/325 in fort worth Texas? I am a diabetic type 1 that has a lot of pain and really in need of a good doctor that can help me out and not think i am faking pain.

Hi John. I'm in Fort Wort, also. I'm seeing an office that calls itself pain management but it's really a joke. Where in Dallas are you able to be seen?

JohnUPT , google Hysingla ER and chose a Purdue Pharma link. When you get to the Purdue website, click on For Patients & Caregivers from the menu at the top of the page, on the next page below the picture, click on Cost Savings to find out what help Purdue offers with the cost of their medications when you don't have the money to pay for them.

The info about the Medicaid help with Medicare that Mark is talking about is below. Help with prescription drugs is called Extra Help. You can also get help with your Medicare Premiums, co/pays and deductibles being paid if you meet the income and resource criteria. For that info click on Medicare Savings Programs in the menu on your left hand side of the page below.

JohnUPT welcome to being disabled in America! You might be able to get the drug for free directly from the company who makes it because you sound like you have a financial hardship. Goto the manufacturer website and see if they do this. I know that Purdue Pharmaceutical who makes Oxycontin does give it to people for free who can't afford it. Your doctor would have to initiate the contact with the pharmaceutical company that has programs that provide free meds to people who can't afford them. You then have to fill out the paperwork and provide proof of income via last year's tax return. Then when approved you have to mail the written prescription from the doctor to the pharmaceutical company then wait for them to fill and generally overnight it to you. I know it sounds like a big hassle, but once you get it all started you just mail your new script to them and they send you your meds on the day you're suppose to get them(every 30 days). Just get the doctor to write the script in advanced, date the fill 2 days prior to actual fill date because this allows them time to fill it and ship it to you. Also I know here in Texas you can be on Medicare and also have Medicad pay for your prescription drugs too in a financial hardship. Check out all your options because there is help, you just have to be very proactive to obtain it. In other words it's not going to fall into your lap.

I'm disabled, but I'm very fortunate that I have money from a legal suit that made me disabled. I use to get Oxycontin for free before I settled my case, it was $1088.53 a month for 60 pills, like I could have afforded that! I personally know people on these programs, they help those who need their meds, but can't afford them. Please don't sit around and suffer needlessly when there's several ways to get your meds for free. Don't feel bad about asking for help, these pharmaceutical companies just write it off on their taxes and their rich beyond belief. Good luck in obtaining the meds you need.

My Dr. prescribed me Hysingla ER last visit. It is a new 24 hour hydrocodone that comes in 20, 30, 40, 60, 80, 100 and 120 milligrams (mg) of hydrocodone to be taken every 24 hours. I was excited, no more taking 2 hydrocodone every 4-6 hours! Took my prescription to my regular Pharmisist and he came to the window and said "John, that prescription is $944.50 and after insrance your part was going to be $238.00." He said I would have to prepay for him to order the meds because he could not float that much without assurance that I was going to take it. I am totally disabled receive no income at all. I could not afford the medication and have to drive from 50 mile west of Ft, Worth to east side of Dallas to get a new script for the old hydrocodone. I pay 103.00 a month for Medicare and almost a $100.00 a month for a supplement and the co-pay is so high that I cannot get the new medication, pretty sad!

What does being diabetic , have to do with anything? I'm a diabetic also. Would love to know the answer.

Posters,

If you are legitimate and diabetic then why is your physician not writing you HC. No one who is legitimate needs to hit Mexico or Canada. They need to wait this out. The FDA is not LE and LE is not a physician.

When Odumma goes so does his bulls***.

I used to drive over all the time, By myself in a nice SUV & I'm a woman. I had a certain place I went , it had parking underneath & security guys that watched your car. So I never was on the streets alone. It's been about 4 or 5 years , now. I always felt safe. We had friends that lived there & would party & stay at their home. I have been to Progresso, Mexico in the last 2 years. Smaller border town. You just have to watch your back & preferably be with people or a person that looks a little Mexican & speaks the Launguage. So sad was those murderous gangs have done to the people in Mexico. Most people still go, they are just a lot more careful than they used to be. Like traveling in small groups. During day light hours & not wondering too far from the border. Tons of pharmacies right at the border. Some doctors too. By the way, the only drugs I ever bought over there were antibiotics, skin products, Valium. You might still need a script for Hudrocodone.

Disabled Sgt.,
How did you get in and out of Matamoros, Mexico without incident? I read that it had the most murders, extortion, assault etc.

I don't know what the legal limits are currently. I went just after the reschedule of hydrocodone last year. Brought back enough to last me a while. Since I don't take them daily I can make a few 90 day scripts of maximum daily amount last. I found an English speaking doctor trained in America. He used to practice here but became fed up with fda, ama, politics and malpractice insurance hassles. I found him through a cab driver. The cab drivers are the best way to find information in Mexico. Just remember to tip well. Or you could find yourself in a bad place. Lol. Best of luck. Please remember that your trying to manage pain not escape it.

Marilyn, if you think that politicians that are also physicians will be more lenient. look up the way the ones that are Senators and Congressman have voted on the topic. They are For tighter restrictions.

Hi! Thanks! I already take Meloxicam everyday, anti inflamatory. I can't take too much more if any ibuprofen. I'm at risk for stomach problems. Scary thing is things will probably just get worse as I get older. I used to drive over to Matamoros all the time. I didn't go for pain meds. I would get a variety of things, skin products I couldn't get in the U.S and inhalers, or antibiotics. Is it legal to bring back Norco? I still drive down to Harlingen a few times a year, but haven been into Mexico for some time. Scary! Maybe if we all vote in Ben Carson, he's a physician & probably understands. Bottom line, I think they need to find a freaking way to tell if a person is having real pain, heat scan, blood test, I don't care. It's just not right. I do know that my mental health is at risk, enduring more pain, is depressing & debilitating. My ability to function in everyday life is minimized causing me to isolate myself. I've started drinking more alcohol, when I haven't had alcohol in 15 years. It kinda takes the edge off, but I hate the taste & I think it's really bad for you. It's legal! Maybe pot is the answer & we know that's not legal. I just think they need to use more common sense, dr.s with their patients. Yes, I know that addicts are the best actors, but, come on. They could try a little harder to weed out the addicts and the elderly & in pain folks. Just my opinion.

How much did you pay for he Norco and what strength? Was there a limit, unfortunately I take a lot for life-threatening injuries and have never been questioned about the use from my Doctor, but now he acts like he is scared to death to write them. What really hacks me off is they are punishing everybody on Hydrocodone, especially those of us that buy, get prescribed and all legal the worst! This is what you get when the damn Government sticks their nose where it doesn't belong, they damn sure should be able to get all of the drug addicts and doctor shoppers without trampling over the rights of people that depend on this medication!

Even the va is changing policy on long term pain meds. I've been lucky, lost weight and gotten off the high dose and high strength stuff. Physical therapy helps and now use Tylenol 3 and occasionally a norco. Always watch your daily acetaminophen intake. I supplement meds with ibuprofen and naproxin sodium. Also making trips to pharmacy in Matamoros Mexico for norco supply. Remember the medical establishment in our country doesn't really care about your pain as much as they say. Good luck to all. But until enough of us band together and change something, you should probably find an alternative to hydrocodone, or go to Mexico for your supply.

Marilyn, almost all pain management drs are prescribing extended release pain meds when a patient needs 24/7 pain meds. The immediate release pain meds don't work as well as extended release. And because extended release meds are only taken twice a day there are less pills. The extended release hydrocodone, Zohydro, is very expensive because it came out last year (2014) There are other extended release pain meds that work well and are much cheaper because they come in generic. Some of those meds are MS Contin and Oxycontin.

Hydrocodone combination meds like Norco which contain hydrocodone and acetaminphen or hydrocodone and other meds are immedicate release and were reclassified as a Schedule II med Oct 6, 2014. That means that they can't be called in and you can't get refills written on the prescription. You also must see your dr at least once every 90 days if you're taking them for chronic pain, although most drs have you come in every 30 days. Usually pain managment drs will prescribe Norco, but most won't prescribe it for 24/7 pain management.

If that is a question, than yes, I need a new pain Dr. The two medications that my former pain dr. Would give me , neither were covered by my insurance & very pricey. He said he would no longer write scripts for hydrocodone . I called another dr. In town. Same thing, only writing scripts for new time released hydrocodone . Or procedures for back with steroids. Boom, all of a sudden , nada. So any suggestions would be great. I have current torn rotator cuff, waiting for surgery, 2 knee replacements needed, bulging disk & pinched nerve. I can't get a pain med any longer. I have taken to drinking some beers & Tramadol, which doesn't work alone & I hate alcohol. Only as needed for severe pain. Any suggestions, appreciated.

don, you will need to get a copy of your medical records from your previous dr. There is no guarantee that a new dr will prescribe you the same meds that your previous dr did. Each dr has their own way of doing things. Some drs won't give you a prescription on the first visit but the ones that do will ususally start you out on a milder med that what you've been taking. It may take you going to see several drs before you find one that will treat you like or similiar to the way your previous dr did.
