I have Lupus and Transverserse Mylitis and in severe pain and see a rheumatologist and they dont prescribe pain meds. I am home bound and can not go to lots of dr. a month. Who is your rheumatologist? I hate going to pain management. Also hate being treated like the scum of the earth because I consume marijuana that helps with my pain.

There is a lot of misinformation and propaganda on opiates and the rate of overdose, etc. For example, if you take the FDA's and CDC's statistics, they lie by putting at least 10 years of deaths together to justify their actions.

cdc.gov/drugoverdose/data/overdose.html

While 183,000 seems like a lot of deaths, the figure is for 10 or 11 years, depending if they include all the years. This 183,000 comes from the FDA website. So, the death rate is actually 15,000 per year if you read down on the page.

Compare that to the following:
Drunk Driving: 16,000 per year
Alcohol Overdose/Live Failure: 88,000 per year
Tobacco related deaths: 480,000 last year. Over 400,000 per year.

So, what this proves is the FDA, CDC, and even the DEA cannot count. The campaign against legal use of opiates, is pretentious and even unethical.

Those of us with real pain know those facts.

Taking high dose NSAIDs is actually more risky. They will stop your kidneys. Most elderly renal failures are from excessive use of Advil. If you doctor is honest, he will tell you these facts.

Dr. Felipe Garcia is a great doctor. He's off Oleander St in Fort Worth close to Baylor All Saints.

Can get better care from a vet now days. What you need is an old school doctor who don't give a s*** about either FDA or DEA. They all snowflakes now. Partly because they're scared and people suck.

Great doctor. I want to know his name so I do not use him.

If he addicted you, he is obligated to slowly reduce your meds. I recommend Tylenol 4. Much less addictive, but just a little less effective against real pain.

You can be off it in 4-7 days; and back in pain.

Keep in mind that if the doctor does not care if you are in level 8-10 pain, fire him! It is your right. He has violated his hipocratic oath and does not deserve the "Doctor" title.

One of these days soon people should quit putting up with this crap and start filing complaints with the State Med Board. Or, just sue the Dr. if you end up having a stroke or loss of functions; suing is your right.

Ask your doctor if he was in level 8 pain; what would he do? Go to a doctor that has some empathy; go to a doctor that believes the FDAs BS; or self medicate. My bet is the latter.

There are 14,000 over dose per year. Most from non-prescription meds. There were 480,000 deaths from tobacco last year. The FDA is focusing on prescription meds due to politics and funding. The FDA will never go after Big Tobbaco; they are cowards. Congressmen like Joe Barton (R-TX) would protect tobbaco. And Tobbaco would out spend the FDA for a defense.

And just like opiates, they would end up blaming the users.

I have several things wrong with me that causes me to have pain constantly. Yet my doctor seems to think antidepressants and exercise works for everything. So I need to find one that will give me what I know would work...pain pills. Which doctor can I go to for pain meds in east texas?

The previous message is a lie. The Feds cannot stop a doctor from prescribing long term pain meds. Who ever stated this has not read the DEA And FDA limitations.

My spouse and I are both chronic pain patients and we are in the same situation as you. If you figure a way to sue or anything of that nature we would be happy to assist in any way possible.

JJ, I couldn't agree more than with what BL is saying! In fact if you're trying to litigate in a legal sense what a doctor should be giving you, you're going to scare off doctors from wanting to treat you. I've been in pain management for 28+ years now seeing several different doctors through the years. If there's one thing that I have learned about this type of doctor is that they don't like being told what to do. Just because another doctor gave you something doesn't mean another one will. Most of them want to do various procedures on you, injection, rhizotomy, stimulator implant and etc. This is the way a doctor is covering themselves. They can then say that they've exhausted all other avenues of treatment and then of course they also like to use every drug under the sun before they commit to opiate therapy.

The way you're being treated is becoming more of the norm because of opiate abuse, but I hate to say it that the way you're probably coming off to a new doctor is that of a drug seeker. It's not a right to receive opiate therapy, it's a privilege. Opiate therapy these days is a treatment of last resort because of abuse. I can still remember back in 1989 when I started opiate therapy because of chronic pain. It all most took an act of god to get a schedule II opiate outside a hospital! It hasn't got that bad again yet, but it's surely on its way. Doctors these days don't like to use Valium or benzos long term or at all. Also Soma is another drug they tend to stay away from too because of abuse. Skeletal muscle relaxants or muscle relaxants shouldn't be taken long term because of severe GI issues. I know of several people who bled to death internally because of muscle relaxants being used long term.

As BL was saying a doctor can give you whatever they think is necessary to control your pain so you can tolerate it. I receive more than what the guidelines state, but then my doctor has exhausted all avenues of treatment and non-narcotic medications before this happened. I know what a pain in the butt it can be and how ridiculous it can be trying to get the medications you actually need, but you can't force it, you have to be patient and in time everything will probably work out. Going to a new doctor can put you back to square one, like starting all over again. The days of doctors giving out massive amounts of opiates or other narcotics first is over, but there's still doctors who will prescribe what they deem as necessary amounts which are above the guidelines.

Welcome to being a third class citizen in America and treated as those you've doing something wrong just because you're suffering. Believe me I know how bad it sucks first hand! I hate to put it in these terms, but it's like a game now and you have to play the game because it's the only game in town that will get you to where you need to be. You have to swallow your pride, play stupid, suck it up, do everything you're told to do without question and then you might get to be placed on long term opiate therapy. Then of course there's the problem of inferior opiates these days that are a lot less potent or there are some that seem like a placebo. The second biggest issue you'll have to deal with too is finding a pharmacy that will work with you on getting a generic opiate that actually creates an analgesic effect so you can tolerate your pain! I recommend mom and pop pharmacies. Chain pharmacies buy the cheapest thing available and could careless how well it does or doesn't work. You're just a druggie to chain pharmacies!

Good luck JJ and welcome to the place between a rock and a hard spot club! We're all lifetime members now even though you may not remember joining. You were signed up the moment you were injured and it couldn't be repaired...

JJ, for some reason the doctors you have seen don't believe in the professional judgement that you need the medications you think you need. I have several friends that are chronic pain patients that are prescribed the medications you say doctors won't prescribe you.

Did you ask the doctors to prescribe these medications? If you did, that may be the reason they wouldn't prescribe it. Did you see each of these doctors for at least six months and take the medications they prescribed you?

There are No Laws preventing any doctor from prescribing medications they believe are best for a patient. So there are no grounds for litigation.

I totally agree in a legal suit! I've been in pain mgmt 10 years now and due to the opioid crisis, I can't get Xanax, Valium, Dilaudid, Soma, or anything that I used to work that worked on my spinal cord injury and 3 back fusions. I also cannot get Ambien CR that kept me in a small respite from pain. I'm a 49 year old and have never been treated like an addict. BUT now I cannot even be treated like a patient who is in excruciating pain! I'm so angry.

Stop lying he can get this medication as long as the manufacturer makes it, the new laws are to make sure it isnt abused. Pain management Drs will prescribe this as well.

Whoa wait a min. I have tried all these things. If you are saying I am defaming anyone you are very incorrect. I didn't go through all the time and effort it took for physical therapies l, injections into my spine my lumbar spine surgery and again my cervical spine (with the same surgeon I might add). I might be jumping the gun here in defense of what I think I just read. Because I don't have it available to refer back to as I type this. But don't say things like that if you don't know. Just ask.

YES!!! Arlington Tx though... Dr. Mark Rodgers at Arlington Health Provillian. The first visit with him was 1 hour and 45 minutes. Very caring and the first doctor to believe me and my pain. Very very hard to get into see him. I had to wait 3 months for my first visit with him but so so worth it. Only see Dr Rodgers not any of the other doctors. He takes patients with or without insurance... I don't have insurance and it's only $75 unless they do blood work than it's about $145 to $175. You only have to go back to see him every 6 months. You will still get your prescription every month though. You pay $5 for each prescription you are prescribed. I get Hydrocodone 10/325 for example that's the only one I have to pay for monthly ($5) but just the triplicate pad. Of course you still have to pay for your prescription to be filled. All other meds I'm prescribed he gives 3 to 5 month refills. Number for Dr Rodgers is 817-277-2671. Good luck and I hope you get your pain relief. But, just a reminder it takes months to get in to see him because he is just that awesome!!! At least 3 to 4 months even after you become a patient.

I take soma but I get it through my rheumatologist who also is acting g as my pain management dr. But even he is fickle. I have fibro too have c3-7 fused posteriorly they had to go in twice a week apart to shorten one of the 10 screws pushing on my cord and an infection. Pain was so bad I spent 14 straight days in hospital. Also have torn rotator cuff. Haven't had fixed yet. Awful awful headaches they call cluster headaches and the only thing I've ever found to work is fiorinal with codeine which the rheumatologist also prescribes. I have an auto immune disease too. Like lupus. Have osteoarthritis in almost all my joints and I can hardly walk. Memory loss blah blah. Had kidney cancer already and I'm only 45

Trish, having you medical records proving what another doctor prescribed does not mean a new doctor will prescribe the same thing. A new doctor can see the meds you were prescribed by looking at your profile in the Texas Prescription Monitoring Program.

Trumpterrorahead, some pain management doctors require a referral and some do not. It is also important to contact your insurance company and find out if they require a written referral for a specialist.

Trish

Your absolutely right no one has the right to tell you what to use for relief, That's why illicit substances exist for Self medicating and being your own "Doctor". ,If you Refuse the suggestions and care proffered by skilled professionals, then you have no justification for defaming the profession that attempted to treat you with a level of care consistent with caution in the prescribing of these federally controlled dangerous substances,Among The most addictive substances on earth.
