Hydrocodone And Tramadol Usage

I am out of my hydrocodone... Can I take tramadol temporarily until I get my prescription? I'm used to taking 10-325s. These tramadol are 37.5-325. How do I take this? Please help! In chronic pain.

Tramadol is a serotonin drug. My Hubby takes 1 tab every 6 hours. But they are 50 mg tabs. I would NOT go over the one every six hours. But if you taken another drug that has anything to do with serotonin receptors are involved. I wouldn't take. You would be in far more trouble with serotonin poision then your chronic pain. Call your pharmacy if you don't want to call your doctors office. Or just pick a random pharmacy. Better to call and ask them end up in the ER. Please be safe. Call first. I'm not a doctor or in the medical field. Just another person with chronic pain.

As a second opinion, I would encourage you to take post #1's advice on contacting your prescribing doctor or a pharmacist first and foremost. Secondly, just to clarify Tramadol's pharmacology.... NIH.gov / MedlinePlus states that "Tramadol is in a class of medications called opiate (narcotic) analgesics, and that it works by changing the way the brain & nervous system respond to pain." I don't know if I'd necessarily call it a serotonin drug in that regard (as mentioned in post #1), but I'm sure the sensation and peace of mind that comes with being pain free is one that may also be associated with increased endorphins/serotonin levels in some fashion. No doubt about it in my mind! However, my perspective on the matter is that only your prescribing doctor and/or pharmacist can legally advise you on what you should take and how you should take it for adequate pain relief.

I just had knee replacement surgery last week. I am going to run out of Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen 5-325. I have a prescription for Tramadol 50mg. Can I take this until tomorrow when I get another prescription for the Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen?
