Hydrocodone 7.5 325 Norco Difference

What is the difference between Hydocodone 7.5 325 and Norco? I understand Norco has a lesser strength. Both are generic for Vicodin so why would a doctor change it from Hydrocodone to Norco if its exactly the same thing? I get a different result from Norco but not Hydrocodone. Why is that? I can't take Norco. I have chronic pain. Why would a doctor change it to Norco if it's the exact the same thing. Can you explain this to me please? Thank you kindly

Hi Rosee,

Just to confirm, Hydrocodone 7.5/325 ALSO CONTAINS "ACETAMINOPHEN". That's where the 325mg comes into play on the label. So to be clear, it contains 7.5mgs of Hydrocodone + 325mgs of Acetaminophen.

A few other pointers I want to touch on in response to some statements made in your post:

- Norco is simply a brand name containing the same exact thing and is available in dosages of up to 10/325.
- Norco is not of lesser strength - unless you were to get prescribed a lower dosage (i.e. 5/325).
- Norco is not a generic for Vicodin - it is simply another brand name, just like Vicodin is a brand name.
- The active ingredients (Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen) spelled out on a label would be indicative of a generic.

The difference in effects you are feeling across one generic/brand to another may be due to a number of different factors, such as each manufacturer's tablet containing a different set of "inactive" ingredients (also known as binders and fillers). These have been proven to affect a tablets overall bioavailability and therefore its efficacy. This is apparent to me because no other factors are changed except for the binders and fillers when you switch between different tablets of the same drug/dosage.

To answer your last question about why a doctor would prescribe you Norco instead of the generic - One theory could be because he/she is getting a kick-back from the pharmaceutical companies by promoting their product, but you'd probably have to ask your doctor directly to know for certain...

Sorry didnt understand the word verefifcation. Dont know w hat I said wrong. So I deleted it. It said to be as clear as I can about hyrocodone and norco. I mis unerstood I guess. Im new with this.

Nothing you said was inherently wrong, except for stating that Norco was a 'generic' for Vicodin, which simply isn't true, even though they contain the same active ingredients. And I don't mean to make it out to be a big deal, but the way your original post was worded made it difficult to understand your true perspective on the matter.

And I'm not completely clear about the dilemma you were facing with your post, but I do know that the word verification can take a few tries sometimes.
