Updated

Just had Testopel pellets inserted in my backside. Forgot to ask doctor how long until they take effect. He's out of town.

Sorry guys, did not intend to get an attitude or put down another product. Allow me to rephrase, please. I worked for a doctor that provided this treatment for men and women. I had several symptoms and so had the lab work done to see if I was a candidate and I was. Have been on the pellets for 2 1/2 years and it has been wonderful! No more sleepless nights, 3:00pm slumps, joint pain, night sweats, not to mention the boost to the libido, which formerly didn't exist. I have heard from insurance companies(while checking on HRT coverage for some friends of mine) that they will only pay for the dose of 450 or less, and only for men. Awesome for those whose insurance pays for whatever dose they need! BioTE doses a little higher than they do, but it is common for the BioTE pellets to last 6 months. So, that being said, testosterone therapy via pellets can greatly improve a man/woman's sense of well being as well as long term health benefits!

Let me add one last thing concerning T therapy....look into taking DIM(diindolymethane), it is a natural supplement and is very beneficial for men and women on HRT. It acts as a natural aromatase inhibitor, and for men specifically, it increases your leutinizing hormone, which helps in minimizing testicular shrinkage(if that is an issue for you). It helps estrogen metabolize down the 2-hydroxy estrone pathway(that's a good thing) and also frees up testosterone bound by SHBG.

Is it commonly available over the counter at drug stores, or places like GNC if it is a supplement? I would like to find something legal to enhance my HRT. I am pleased with the testopel results but I'd like to get rid of some of the side effects (shrinkage).

Yes, it is available at some health food/vitamin stores. Whole Foods carries it. You can also get it online. Just be sure that the DIM you get is micronized.

Bioresponse.com, I believe is a good source. This is info that BioTE educates their doctors on...it's all about balancing all your hormones, including your thyroid and vitamin D!

Buddy and Bob, I'm a 42 yr old that has never taken a steroid in my life and started feeling sluggish and very tired in the middle of the day so I had mine checked and found out it was a 33! Needless to say I was shocked. My specialist suggested Testopel and now I'm waiting for insurance to approve! I'm hoping I get half the results you guys have had! The only good thing is my libido hasn't gone away so this should be fun if it gets better!

Was feeling lousy--low energy, low sex drive, and felt like my brain was in a dense fog. Tested by T and it was 187. Doctor presented all options including gels, shots, pellets, and bio-identical. With my low level, I decided to give the pellets a try. Painless procedure where the doctor inserted 12 pellets that took only 15 or 20 minutes but I was sore for over a week. Doctor described it would feel like getting hit with a 90 mph fast ball and he was right. Pretty significant bruising and pain that went away after 10 days or so. I was expecting healing from the incision, but that turned about to be nothing. I wasn't expecting the painful bruising. But, that wasn't the most surprising part. When I got the bill it was $1,700 and insurance only covered $300. We're on an HSA so that took a big bite out of our account. After doing some research, I learned that these pellets aren't cheap--$75 to $100 each and I had 12 of them implanted. Got my blood checked after 4 weeks and my T level had increased to 380 which the doctor was very surprised about and didn't think the blood test could have been right. So, he had me take another blood test on about week 6 after the procedure and my T level had increased to 470. Better, but still lower than what the doctor expected. He contacted the pharmaceutical rep and they said everyone reacts differently and they peak at different times. Since my levels have been increasing with the two blood test, that's a good sign. My energy level and sex drive has improved, but have seen the most improvement in my mental "fogginess." So far, I'd have to say overall I'm disappointed with the lack of improvement in my T level, the cost of the procedure/pellets, and slight improvement in symptoms. I am to go back in three more weeks to get my levels checked again to see if they are still increasing or on their way back down. If they are declining, I am going to likely ask the doctor to try the self administered injections.

Do you know how many mgs the pellets were? The doctor that pellets me gives men a dose of anywhere from 1400-2400 mg, depending on several variables. Not all pellets are created equal, there is a lot of science and research that goes into creating a pellet that will effectively get your T levels to an optimal range of 800-1100 in 4 weeks and sustain those levels. And the pellets, if they are produced and dosed properly should last 5-6 months. He charges $625 for a dose of 2000mg or less and $725 for over 2000 mg.

That sounds exactly how the pellets worked for me. The doctor was 'surprised' thatmy levels did not go up more and I, like you was on the hook for alot of money out of pocket. I now do the weekly, self injections. Much better results and WAY cheaper.hesivw

Don't give up on the pellets, just research and find the best method for pellet therapy. There are differences in how that form of therapy is done, starting with the pellets and dosing. If done right, you will like it way more than injections, and the long term health benefits are also way better!

I'm not sure if my Doc really knows alot about them because he told me he implants only 10 in all his patients. While my results seem to be good, I'd love for them to be great. I think next time I will ask him if he can do 12 or 14. The 10 just seem to be taking the edge off most of the symptoms, but I don't complain too much because I'm just happy that i can wake up with morning "wood" again ROFL! It would be nice though to erradicate the symptoms instead of knocking the edge off them.

I has my first dose of pellets today. I had 5 pellets inserted with a starting T level of 320. I am 34 yrs old, 6'2" and 275 lbs. I can certainly say the insertion site is tender but not too bad. I was told to refrain from working out for one week which kinda sucks because I've only recently gotten back in the mood to work out. I will return in 4 weeks to get levels checked again. I hope 5 is enough...we'll see.

5 is pretty conservative. I think if you read back over this thread you will find that most start with 10. 'Personally' I dont think you need to refrain from working out all together, just lay off the leg presses and squats to keep the stiches from coming out. Good luck.

I agree. I just kept my incision iced the first day and went right back into everything the next day. The spot was tender, but I didn't have much bruising. Some folks though seem to bruise more easily & I think that has to do with their body mass.

My attemp to laugh away the pain

I went to see the doctor
He said my testosterone was low
Said he had a quick procedure
And in a minute I could go

He showed a 9 penny nail
Showed where it'd go in my cheek
I wanted to say go to hell
But decided not to speak

Lets get on with this I said
Before I change my mind
Take that 9 penny by the head
And shove it in my behind

Then he gave a couple pokes
Just to numb the pain
Wish I hadn't drank them cokes
I just might make a stain

Here I am 2 days later
Still cant quite sit down
I hate to be a hater
But my dr may benot a clown

I went online just to see
If it should hurt this much
See if others were as sore as me
Did they need to use a crutch!

I really hope this does the trick
And I feel better real fast
Otherwise I will tell the prick
That first time will be my last!

I just had my first testo pellets procedure today and absolutely no pain or discomfort as of yet. My specialist told me that the liver cancer chances are with use of many injections of testosterone but not with the pellets.

Ginger. I feel you are very informed. I'm open to other options, as well as for my wife. I have been on testopel for several years, so if there is something better, I'm in. I liked your posts. Sad of the insecurities of your negative responders. Most posts were stating they weren't happy anyway so your alternate advice was welcomed. Any way to contact you for more specifics?

Sure John, {edited for privacy}....feel free to email me any questions you have. If those that were unhappy with my posts knew me, they would know my main concern is all about the long term benefits for both men and women as well as symptom relief!
