Help Cost Of Oxycodone Killing Me

Updated

been going to pain managment clinic in tampa florida this entire year the name brand pharmacy;s don't carry the medication so i cant use my insurance. so mom and pop pharmacies carry it but wont take insurance. Heres my problem the first prescription for 240 30mg oxycodone was $260 the next $340 the next $1,500 the next $1,300 the next $1,100 and last month he said it would be $1,300 i told him i could go down the street and get them for $900 then after debating price for 30 minutes he took $890 for 240 oxycodone 30 mg. they also only take CASH. Does this seem legal to anyone?

Yes, taking cash only is perfectly legal, it is the only form of payment in the U.S. that a retailer is not allowed to refuse. They are not obligated to take anything else, including insurance, especially if they are an independent pharmacy.

The price you are paying, however, is really high and it seems they may be jacking it up on you, deliberately, but I don't know how you'd prove that. That is higher than most people pay in cash for the name brand.

What formulation are you taking, is it time released or regular release?

As to the name brand pharmacies, have you tried asking them about ordering it in for you? Most of the time they can do this, so you can use your insurance to cover it.

After an accident in 2004 which disabled me, I have become a Go To person for people seeking information about the Controlled Substance Act and insurance restrictions on certain drugs. As I have learned, as long as the pharmacy gives you a receipt that specifies exactly what you paid that ridiculous amount of money for, dispenses the drug in a legal container stating your name, the medication, a prescription (DEA) number, and usually on the bottom of the bottle, a specific and detailed description of each pill inside, then if your insurance won't pay for it, I know of no law that requires a pharmacy to accept checks or credit cards. You are obviously paying the full price as most insurance does not pay for certain medications. You can call your insurance company and request a list of medications that it pays for. Also, there are a number of other reasons too lengthily to get into that effect your cost of certain prescriptions such as yearly deductables. Again, I would talk to your insurance company.

Medicare doesn't pay for prescription narcotics not dispensed in a hospital environment, especially in a form that lends itself to abuse such as yours does. Most Medicare supplement insurance pays for such drugs instead. Otherwise, it depends on the insurance, co-pay, and other factors. With that said, the sums of money you claim to have paid, depending on the number of pills, appears to be extremely excessive for that medication.

Even Methadone doesn't cost that much without insurance in any pharmacy I know of, but I have no experience with that drug, but my sister does as a victim of several failed back surgeries. She is also an insurance broker. I am just a knowledgeable structural engineer with extensive personal experience.

Yeah you are paying more than the price if the bame brand for sure I just checked today while at Walgreens... You know, walgreens no insurance price is like $200 for 120 30mg M30s, generics... I'm sure you would have a walgreens somewhere.... And as verwon said, I think they are purposely marking you up- that or your saying you have a script and your paying FULL CRACK at your local street pharmacist lol-

That's actually more than street price your paying too sadly, well at least from what the show on the news said about street drugs a documentary we recently saw about people fienin for diff types of stuff...

There are indipendant pharmacies that are WWAAAYY less than larger ones, for instance walgreens and alberstons r smiths are almost double the ind. One I go to that's just a small one...

If you don't have one like the one I go to, the best and cheapest name bran pharmacy that I have ran into over the years is SAMS CLUB OR COSTO!!! you should definitely try there, and ask for generics like the malinkoft (however u spell it) M30's (they're blue with a boxed M on one side and 30 on the other) OR the amide a215- (blue with a a215 on it lol)

hope that helps you out man... Take care and hope things get better for you and the rest of us, I just got rear ended yesterday crazy enough... It sounds as though I'll never stop being in pain or hurting... Cheers~

WALGREENS AND CVS AND LARGE PHARMACYS ARE ALWAYS THE MOST EXPENSIVE. GO TO A PHARMACY AT A HOSPITAL THAT IS WHERE YOU GET YOUR BEST DEAL. LIKE I SAID , I GET 180 30'SM FOR 73.00 AND MY FRIEND GETS 260 15'S M FOR 76.00.. SOUNDS LIKE SOMEBODY OUT THERE IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF YOU.

What pharmacy are you using? If you don't know the pharmacy name, for instance if you go to the local grocery store, that will work too. What grocery store or other pharmacy do you go to? I have been told that overall Costco was the cheapest and that you don't have to be a member, just tell them you are going to the pharmacy at the door if asked.

I'd love to now if your still getting those prices as the manufacturer has been playing with the prices all over the place, not to mention the pharmacy markups.

Anyone else know about the costco prices or other pharmacies or even just pharmaceutical medication insurance that works well?

I'm surprised to hear that people have trouble at Walgreens. I've been in pain management for almost 2 years now and used to use the Mom & Pop places before the "shortage" happened & they stopped my taking insurance & started raising the prices. Once that happened, I tried a Walgreens & have been using them ever since. It is true that they do not guarentee to have them in stock nor do they order them for you - however, I have about 3 Walgreens in my Tampa area that I go to, and if one doesn't have them - typically one of the other 2 does. I have only had one disaster with them and that was last month and had to wait a day to fill them - & that was because not one single Walgreens in Tampa, Clearwater, St. Pete or Pasco County had them that day. I just went yesterday and found them on my 2nd try. I would help and give you the locations of these Walgreens but unfortunately you will have to find them for yourselves as I do not want to bring too many people to my locations. May sound greedy but I don't ever want to wait a day to fill my stuff again!! Keep trying Walgreens though - they DO have them. Gotta get there really early too.

Here's what I have found regarding the flat rate (no insurance) in Oregon. For 90 Roxy 15mg I've paid 65.00 at Walgreens with their savings card and a similar price at Safeway and hospital pharmacies. Best price I have found ( which I'm extremely excited about is Costco) you don't need a membership card to enter if you let them know at the door that you are going to the pharmacy. My script is now always 34.00 each month. If Costco isn't where you want to get your script the other economical place is albertsons grocery. When you hand them your script ask them to price match against all the other places you've tried and they will guarantee you the lowest price. Hope this helps

I am on the same meds. 30 mg. oxycodone ir's. I also have no insurance. The price at wallgreens is around $200 for 150. The pharmacist asked if I had AAA. AAA members get an RX discount so I pay 120. My point is that by joining AAA, which you will prob use, they offer a nice discount but you must ask or have a decent Pharmacist.

Re: spider1218 (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

Come to Bronx, NY. The name of the clinic is called Damian Health Center, formerly known as "All Meds". You need to bring proof that something is broken, or in pain (your MRI results), it's what they ask for. They have 3 floors, 1 for psych, the other for pain mgnt, and primary care. This clinic also prescribes Clonazepam and Alprazolam. You'll thank me later. Trust me. This place randomly does U/A's (which is super easy to beat) considering the diagnostic that they use.

There is a discount card from the manufacturer, ask your Dr about it, shouldn't have to pay anymore than 45$

Yes go to fletcher pharmacy.. but they don't carry no higher than 20 mg ir oxycodone or go to brandon pharmacy.. and they both accept insurances and my 30 mg oxycodone if paying cash for 90 of them is only 90 dollars

I've asked the same question. I dont have insurance and seems like every month the price is different, 128$ for 120 10 mg Percocet one month and maybe 180, then it might drop to 80$. I'm not paying out big bucks like you, thankfully. I just never know what to expect as the pharmacy seems to charge whatever they want and unless the government put a price cap on it well they can get away with it. As far as your pharmacy only taking cash, well a lot of pharmacies don't take credit or certain insurance plans....

No, not legal. You can't haggle the cost of a script! They're jacking up the cost. If they will accept less, you know it doesn't cost them that much. Especially if they only accept cash. They're trying to stay off the radar. That's crazy! Report them.

Have your doctor prescribe a long acting med and a small amount for breakthru pain. 60-90 long acting and 90 BT is a lot fewer meds, more affordable.
