Have To Change Doctors

Updated

I've been with the same dr for 8+ years, he prescribes me percocet/opana/xanax. Recently I got a discharge letter for "failed drug panel" no details except that in 30 days he will no longer be my DR. I have taken frequent U/A's and have never failed one, now suddenly it appears I have. I still have about 2 weeks that he is "officially" my dr. I also have an upcoming appointment that they haven't canceled. I really don't know what to do from here, how to proceed, or what (if anything) can be done, because I do not do any other drugs except the ones he prescribes. I don't even know what my "failed drug panel" was failed for. I'm on a "pain management agreement" but don't have a copy of it as I signed it over 7-8 years ago. ANY advice would be appreciated as long as its valid and true advice. I live in ohio, but my doctor is in west Virginia (which has a HUGE opiate) problem. Please help, TYVM in advance.

Any tests that they have done are in your medical record, and since it is yours, you do have a right to see them. If you want your own copies they can charge you for them, but they cannot refuse you access to them, under U.S. law.

Thus that would likely be the first place to start, then you can find out why they are saying you failed.

There are many substances that can cause false positives, including very innocuous over the counter products, such as antihistamines and Tylenol.

Have you taken any over the counter medications, recently?

Yes lots: advil, Tylenol, Theraflu, generic allergy meds, all over the counter. Also stool softeners, and occasionally diarrhea meds. (either cant go, or cant stop going, don't mean to be gross but that's the truth). Further since the DR's drug panel I have taken and passed several other drug panels for prospective employers. I have an appt. with the same DR on the 22nd (within the 30 days b4 discharge). I have contacted the state medical board, and several other DR's. The news isn't good. The biggest problem is NO ONE it seems can tell me what my rights are or if I even have any due to the PMA I signed. Other nurses that ive talked to in searching for a new DR have said, "sounds like you were over medicated" and that a "discharge for a failed drug panel" is basically the end (no DR will take me with that type of discharge). I will have no choice but to deal with the withdrawal, which after so many years at such a high dosage, is absolutely crippling, and very dangerous. Thank you for the reply, any further help would be greatly appreciated.
