Great Results With Brintellix

Updated

I have Bipolar, PTSD, Panic Disorder/Agoraphobia. I'm on 20mg and two months in. Since taking it I have gone to parties, socialized, smile more often, no more insomnia, clearer thinking, more motivation, optimistic/planning for the future, and best of all completely calm! No panic attacks in months vs as many as 4/day (on average 4/week). No manic symptoms, no side effects. I had a few gastro symptoms at first but they went away. I noticed a significant improvement each time I raised my dose. It took about 6 weeks to notice a major change in my anxiety, but now I feel normal. Way better than even benzos in my case, and I can think on this drug. I have been taking antidepressants since 1991 and this one is by far the best for me. It's worth a try, but like any drug it's not for everyone.

I have OCD anxiety panic, I'm 64 been on Luvox 100mg almost a year. It doesn't seem to helping anymore and raising dose makes me a mess. My GI told me start Brintellix so I am weaning down Luvox first . My Psychcologist is on vacation so I know I need to see him before switch. ;I only see him for meds not consultations) I also take up to 1mg Xanax before noon. How long should I be off Luvox before starting Brintellix? What are major drawbacks of this med? My psychsiatrist thinks it's a good med.

Side effects depend on the individual. Check their website for a full list. Many experience nausea. I only do if I don't take it with food. I take it before sleep so that if I do feel a little queezy I sleep through it.

I had to reduce my dose back to 10mg because I had a few attacks of tachycardia. I don't know if the Brintellix caused it (I think it's actually an unrelated spine issue), but didn't want to take the chance. I still feel really great on it and consider it my wonder drug. It's great to sleep through the night. I've never taken an antidepressant that made me feel calm before. I haven't had panic attacks since I started this med, and I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder! I'm feeling so happy an optimistic. My husband sees very positive changes in me too.

First, let me state that i'm not a doctor so I cannot give you advise as such. I advise calling doctor, going to a walk-in, or calling a nurse hotline. This is purely from my experience. Because both Luvox and Brintellix affect your serotonin levels, you should be careful to not double up on them since you could get Serotonin syndrome. In the past, when I have switched from one antidepressant to another, I have gradually tapered off the first med to avoid discontinuation symptoms (at the advise of a doctor). Usually this is over the course of a week. After a few days off of the first antidepressant, I have very slowly introduced the new one to prevent side effects. I'm extra cautious, and at the advise of my psychiatrist I started on 5mg of Brintellix (cutting Brintellix is safe - this is not true of all meds). After 2 days, I went up to 10mg since I had no ill effects. I stayed on 10mg for a month. I felt great, but wanted to see if I'd feel even better on a higher dose, then went up to 15mg. 10mg seemed to be enough for me since I'm Bipolar and sensitive to anti-deperssants. Listen to your body and go up as gradually as you feel you need. if you feel nauseous, do it more gradually. Take with food, and at night unless it causes you sleeping trouble (it helps me sleep). Brintellix works much faster than other depressants, so you may notice an improvement even after a week. Good luck!
