Given Wrong Meds On Purpose In Nursing Home

Updated

I have been a resident of a skilled nursing facility since the beginning of January 2015. My main issues of admittance was seizures not pain management that I have learned to deal with. I have a pain doctor however since the beginning I have had issues with my medicine not being issued properly. Recently I finally used my brain and looked up the numbers on the pills and where I was to have 10 mg Oxycodone immediate release , 45 mg morphine every 8 hours, 1 mg. lorazepam.
I am being issued 1 oxycodone 5mg and told it is a 10 mg. the 1 mg. lorazepam is .5 and I am told it is 1 mg. then finally the 45 mg. morphine is given in 3 15 mg. to equal 45 mgs. I am so angry and do not know what to do next. I have kept a log along with the pills. Also my roommate has been aware of this issue from the beginning including a very dear friend of mine. I have asked several nurses what doses I am taking etc. and every time I am assured what I am taking is right.

Please excuse the longevity of this posting and spelling errors. Thank you for any help you can give me. This is a state of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services. Aging and Disability Services Division (governed by)

Hi Georgia,

I'm very sorry to hear about your situation. The idea of nurses knowingly dispensing mislabeled prescriptions sounds like a nightmare for patients. It seems like your best bet would probably be to seek out whichever nurse is in charge of obtaining the prescriptions throughout the home and just be up front about how you feel, what you noticed, and what measures can be put in place to prevent this sort of problem from ever happening again - perhaps to the extent of discreetly looking for unusual behavior patterns on the day your script is due for a refill. And please excuse me if I misinterpreted any part of your post in how it was conveyed... I just wanted to offer another perspective on the matter at hand, hoping you'll be able to find a way to take appropriate action on some level.

Thanks for reading!

Hi sorry to say but it sounds like an intentional scamming of the books there. It happens a lot. They will bill the insurance company what you are suppose to have and give less to make the profit. I am wondering what others might say so I did repost this situation to see what responses I will get. Hopefully someone will be able to get this situation under control and it fixed for you. I hope what is being given to you is at least helping to ease what pain you are experiencing.l

I have been a home health nurse as well as working in skilled nursing oxycodone has become a very big problem so many health care providers are actually hooked on pain meds to where they are actually stilling meds from patients its terrible but true you need to report this to your dr. and the director of nursing ask to see your meds in the presence of the d.o.n. go over all numbers and demand to get to the bottom of this matter. if this is happening to you im sure it is happening to other residents please don't let this go. a nurse that is impared could be life threating if this doesn't work contact dhs and make a report good luck to you ..gina okc
