Fiorinal Tablets

Updated

I have tried several drugstores for the fiorinal tablet and cannot find them. I have taken them for several years, the capsule is not effective and neither is the fiorcet. Where can I find the fiorinal (butalbital-Asa-caffeine tablets, 50-325-40)

Hello, Ann! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having.

However, from what was recently reported, it appears that they were removed from the market. I haven't been able to discover why, it may just have been due to lack of sales.

The only suggestion I can really give you is that you talk to your doctor to see if there is an alternative that you can try.

Does anyone else have any other ideas?

Reported Where? I take the Brand Fiorinal with Codeine #3 and have not been able to get script filled for couple months now. I contacted Watson in early November and they stated Brand (Fiorinal with Codeine #3 was not being discontinued, please let me know where you heard a report of this change.

can't another company buy the formula for fiorinal pills w/aspirin and make it for us? I need it as I get headaches from food, drop in baro pressure, everything. Watson/Activis didn't even tell us they were stopping them. Can't we get them from another Pharmaceutical Company?

The fiorinol with tylenol doesn't work the same as with aspirin....but what really irks me is they say the acetaminophen is so bad for the liver yet everything RX including the over the counter meds include it..... Aspirin works so much better...so westward plz start producing it!!! It's all about greed and money I think !!!

I cannot find them. Please post when you can find that in a tablet. Nothing else works for migraine and the capsules were an excuse to raise the price

CAN'T BELIEVE IN THIS DAY AND AGE THAT YOU CAN'T GET FIORINAL EVEN IF YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY HIGHER FOR IT. CAN'T GET THE FIORINAL WHITE TABLETS WITH THE ASPIRIN AND THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT WORK.

Did you Fiorinal is a controlled drug now or has been for a few yrs.?
It also has a formula( I use the original/regular pill) but it also comes with codeine! I'd be plugged forever!
Also it comes in tabs; which I only use; they last longer and caps.; don't get me started on pills in caps.!
Anyways, with a written script, I got mine today; NYState but ; new Nurse Practitioner; forget to mention or ask my preference and I forgot to look and when I got home- saw that I was given the caps.! By law, they would not take them back and I hate caps; they don't hold up that long...................

INNew York State you can still get generic Fiorinal tabs or caps.
They need a written script and if you get the one w/codeine in it; it might be more difficult; paper wise for the dr writing it.

Valium is a NO No in NYSte! can't get it to save ones' back! But FL., TX. and NV.- no problem!

The pharmacy distributors now- will only sell the tabs to the pharmacies without the ASPIRIN ingredient (too much stomach bleeding...) and have substituted instead of Aspirin- tylenol! Yes, it's available in NY State but be CAREFUL- what you ask for.......

I prefer the long lasting tabs vs. the capsules.

Good Luck!

Is there ANY place in the United States or Canada where you can still get Butalbital/Aspirin/Caffeine TABLETS, not capsules? I cut the pill in half per dose and cannot do that with capsules.

I also don't understand why they can't make them in tablets. I don't know about anyone else, but I swear there are no real ingredients in the capsules. I have opened serveral up just to see if there was something in there. I took two in the middle of the night once (normally I won't even take one because it would keep me awake) the next thing I know, I am waking up, headache still there, so I'm thinking there isn't any caffeine in it either? I have had it refilled several times, thinking maybe I got a bad batch. But they were all the same. There is something very wrong going on with that. How has no one caught on that someone or some place is ripping everyone off with phony drugs.

Since this thread first started, moh or medication overuse headache is being used to make Migraine sufferers get off of prescription painkillers. I’ve read up on moh and even Extra-Strength Excedrin is being blamed. According to some articles, Triptans are now being overused and they are limiting them. For myself and my 43 years of taking Fiorinal...it worked quickly when in tablet form. Since going to timed release capsules, I need more of it to get migraine relief and my neurologist is prescribing less. I’m angry. If you do find the tablets please post where.

Hi, I feel your pain as I also have not been able to find anything to assist my migraines like fiorinal. Why take something away when it has been useful too so many.
If I find anything I will post. Good luck regards Angela

Re: brooke (# 39) Expand Referenced Message

Welcome to the world of drug management, specifically addiction prevention. Fiorinal only comes in capsules that are time released. They are time released to curb the feeling of euphoria that can come with a full dose of medicine in this category. This is an insult to those who suffer with migraines as a full dose of medicine right away is our only hope of getting real relief. If by any chance you find the tablets in Canada, please post back. They are not in the United States. What I now have to do is take the Fiorinal with Extra Strength Excedrin and in most cases get relief. You wrote that you can't swallow the capsule. I would tell the pharmacist. They may have some tricks/guidance. Good luck

Does any other company besides Lannett make fiorinal, fioricet or the generics of these? I've been on them for 40 years. I now have to open the capsules as I have trouble swallowing pills. I had a bad reaction to a couple of them. Did they change the formula? Can I get them in Canada?????

Re: LC inFVNC (# 37) Expand Referenced Message

I have read so many replies on the topic of Fiorinal tablets being replaced by the ineffective capsules. I've come to the conclusion that the capsules are time released, therefore you'll never get the full dose at once anymore. Time release is the latest technology to combat addiction to pain medication by releasing a little medication over time. Pretty sure that in the future, all types of oral pain medication will be manufactured as time released. This is such an oxymoron because anyone in moderate to strong pain needs the full dose right away. I find that I have to take the Fiorinal capsule with an extra-strength Excedrin to get pain relief. I have to take at the first sign of a headache and because of that, I need more of them then I did with Fiorinal tablets. Doesn't bode well with my neurologist. I wish you good luck.

Re: Kiki (# 34) Expand Referenced Message

I take Fioricet which also has blue dye that I think I’m allergic to. My throat burns, I get an itchy face & my mouth feels a little swollen. What allergic symptoms do you get? I’ve been using Fioricet for years for migraines because I can’t take imitrex or maxalt. I never had this reaction to the white pill version of Fioricet.

Re: Kiki (# 34) Expand Referenced Message

I feel so bad that you are allergic to the dye in the capsule. You cannot get Fiorinal in tablet form anymore. In my experience, the capsule form is far less effective than the tablet. If you scroll through this thread and look on this site for other Fiorinal threads, you'll see my experience is not unique. My neurologist has prescribed Diclofenac and that does stop a migraine if I combine it with Extra-Strength Excedrin and take it at the first sign of a headache. It is a red pill. Maybe it will help you. When a migraine hits overnight, I have to still take the Fiorinal with a steroid. I wish you good luck and if you find a solution, please update this thread.

Is there an equivalent to Fiorinal without the blue (or any) dye? For decades this is what worked for me. Now we cannot get simple Fiorinal without the blue dye which I am allergic to? Any options or will I have to go to a compounding pharmacy? Not interested in other meds...no codeine or other substitutes...just looking for but/asa/caf.

Ann, I, too, have used Fiorinol tablet with aspirin (Butalbital-ASA-Caffeine) for years, & as far as I'm concerned, it's a miracle drug. It stops the headache from coming, & it gets rid of the stars & the sick feeling, all in about 15 minutes. This last prescription was filled with capsules & didn't work! I have tried Fiorinet in the past & that didn't work either. Why do they do something like this, & how could they have changed it so it doesn't work anymore?!
