Expired Antibiotics

We have some drops used for an ear infection for our oldest daughter: Neo/Poly/HC/1% OTIC sups 10 ML green.
The last time we used them was December of 2010 and they have been kept in a cool dark place, within a capped, plastic airtight medicine container since.
Now we wonder if we can use them for an ear infection or our youngest daughter?
Do you think they are safe to use as directed? She is 17 years old.

In most cases, it is best not to use antibiotics after the expiration date. The reduced efficacy can increase your risk of developing antibiotic resistance.

The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.

Thus, it would be best to see a doctor for a new supply, if one is needed.

Liquid medications also tend to go bad faster than tablets, or capsules. They can go bad, and actually cause problems if you try to use them, once they are expired.
